The Three Billy Goats Gruff

This week we are going to link our book topic the Three Billy Goats Gruff to our topic Design Technology. Have some fun this week making your own troll bridge. I have set out three different challenges… you can choose to do 1, 2 or all 3 it is entirely up to you.Challenge 1Build a bridge that can span two surfaces that are at least 30 cm apart and can hold a small toy. You may even make it in the garden.
Suggested materials: You could use cardboard, straws, boxes, Lego, blocks, fabric, lolly sticks, or natural resources such as sticks and pebbles. rulers, craft stick, pegs, bulldog clips, masking tape/sellotape, Once you have made the bridge you need to test it. Find a toy, teddy, figure to walk across the bridge. Is the bridge strong enough? Talk about whether the bridge was strong enough or not. Talk about how the bridge could be improved next time or the best parts of the bridge. Make sure you take a photograph of your bridge and post it on class dojo.
Challenge 2.Build a boat that can hold 25 grams of weight and float for at least 1 minute.
Suggested materials: water bottles, waxed paper (grease proof) craft sticks, foil, masking tape/sellotape etc.Challenge 3Build a trap that can catch and hold a troll.Suggested materials: building brick (Lego), cardboard, small boxes, craft sticks, pegs, paperclip etc.
Geography Encourage the children to create their own picture map of the story. Your children can draw and label the sweet meadow, the bridge, the river and the field where the three billy goats Gruff started the story.
