God wants you to have joy. God gives you the joy that the world cannot give. He gives the joy that comes from sins forgiven and the assurance of heaven itself. He gives you the joy that comes from knowing that He loves you and that you have a Savior from sin and death. That is a message that gives you joy at all times in your life. You may recall that the last part of the series on Philippians talked about joyful giving. That sounds a bit strange to us at times in the church, doesn’t it? We often times see giving as being a painful thing. So often, in the church, we see our giving to the church as being something that we would rather not have to do. Many times, we want to base our giving on how little we can possibly give. That kind of outlook will certainly make our giving joyless. But the Apostle Paul tells us in Philippians four that God wants us to find joy in our giving. How can we be joyful in our giving? First, it begins with understanding that all that we have is entrusted to us by God. Second, it comes from giving based on how God has blessed us not by wanting to know how little we can get by with giving. Third, we receive joy in our giving when realize what a privilege God gives to us in being able to give. We look at what the church does, and we see the importance of it. We realize that our offerings go to support the most important thing that happens in this world. The very Word of God is proclaimed through the church because of your offerings. The Sacraments are administered because of your generosity. Your offerings make it possible for people to hear the good news of Christ’s death and resurrection and receive the forgiveness of sins. Mission Statement

“I have received full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you sent, a fragrant offering, a

sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.” Phil. 4:18

This past month we finished our four part series on the Book of Philippians which was titled “The Joyful Life.” We talked about the joy that is ours in Christ.

In other words, we are talking about the difference between heaven and hell. What a joy it is to be able to be a part of such important work.

I want to follow up on the sermon series by reminding the congregation of the important work that we have before us. I also want to remind you that we have sought to expand the work that we are doing as a congregation. The congregation added the DCE intern position to the budget this year. We want to keep our young people involved in the congregation beyond their confirmation years. When the church expands its ministry, it becomes necessary to increase the budget. The members of St. Paul have always generously supported the work of the church in the past, and I am confident will continue to do so. I would encourage you to consider how God has blessed you and how you might joyfully respond to God’s blessings.

In His service,Pastor Olson

Sermon Text and Themes

November 2 & 5: This week in the church year we observe All Saints’ Day. Our text is Rev. 7:2-17 and our title is “Remembering the Saints.” This is the day in the year when we recall who have gone before us with faith in Jesus. We remember the example of faith that they gave to us and we draw comfort from knowing that we too will one day be gathered with them around God’s throne in heaven.

November 9 & 12: This is the week of our special Veterans’ Day service. The text for the sermon this week is Luke 7:1-10. The title of the sermon is “The Faith of a Soldier.” We see how Jesus talks to a centurion and is amazed by his faith. This soldier had faith in Jesus. We are encouraged by this soldier’s example of faith.

November 16 & 19: The 24th Sunday after Pentecost is also the second to the last Sunday of the church year. As we get to the end of the church year, our attention shifts to the end times. Our text on this day is I Thessalonians 5:1-11. The title is “Encourage One Another.” We are told that as we wait for Jesus to return we are to encourage one another. We see that God wants the church to be an encouraging place.

Thanksgiving: We will gather together on Thanksgiving Eve, November 22, to give thanks to God for all of His blessings.

November 23 & 26: This week we observe the Last Sunday in the church year. We focus on Jesus’ final return into this world. Our text for this week is Matthew 25:31-46. The sermon title is “Sheep and Goats. We see how Jesus, on the last day, separates the sheep from the goats. We draw comfort from knowing that we are His sheep and that when He returns He will gather us into His kingdom.

Clergy Appreciation: I want to thank the congregation for all the cards, thoughts, and words of encouragement during clergy appreciation month. I truly appreciate it! Pastor Olson

of all just playing in them!  When we were not busy having math and art lessons outside we were inside reading fun stories that celebrate the season of fall! This class really enjoys games and we have played lots of games to teach our letters and sight words!  We have also begun reading stories in class and the excitement in the room as some have discovered they can read simple sight word books is so fun to see!   Finally in Bible we have explored stories that teach us that God keeps His promises and can make the impossible - possible as we met people like Abraham and Sarah, Joseph, and Moses.   We also spent some time learning about Martin Luther as we prepare for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation! It has been a great month and I am  looking forward to the fun ending coming up!

5K: October was a busy month of counting, reading, and lots of fun.  We are working on shapes, patterns, and writing our numbers in math.  Our word wall is starting to get some words that we need to be able to read.   During our Bible time, we have heard the Old Testament stories of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph.  We have been investigating pumpkins, cutting them up, looking at the insides, and eating seeds for science.  We are finishing up the month with Red Ribbon Week, where we talk about being drug free, we had Mrs. Sue Kratz in and talk with us about being drug free and healthy, and we had some fun dress up days.   We are ending the month with a fall party and talking about Martin Luther and the Reformation. Thank you to all who supported our Walk-A-Thon, over $14,000 was raised.

1st and 2nd grade: The Lord has truly blessed us with a beautiful fall so far.  The kids have enjoyed playing in the warm sunshine and watching the trees change color.  During the 4th week of October we were able to celebrate "Red Ribbon Week"  During this week we talked about being drug free and taking care of the bodies that God has given to us.   We dressed up in crazy socks, all red, and even got to bring our stuffed animals to school.  We ended the week with fall parties!  This month we have been very focused on our studies as well.  We are working on memorizing the 10 Commandments as we talk about the journey of the Israelites.  We also have studied volcanoes and earthquakes in science!  We will be learning about all of the unique land forms that God has created in Social Studies.  And in Reading we are working to become "SUPERSTAR" Readers!  I can't wait to see the great things this class will accomplish!

3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade: It is hard to believe that we are almost through the first quarter. The students continue to work hard in all of their classes. We had a fun ending to our month. We all enjoyed celebrating “Red Ribbon Week” to show we keep our bodies’ drug free. It was fun to come to school dressed up different each day! We had our fall party. Thank you to Mrs. Gregorich and Mrs. Budworth for their hard work and great ideas. We had a great time! We ended the month with the wonderful Reformation celebration! We worshiped together and took a “walk” to learn more about Martin Luther. God bless your November.

6th, 7th, and 8th Grade Greetings from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade! This has been a great month in the upper grades. We may only be into the second month of school, but we are moving right along in our various subjects. The sixth grade in conjunction with 5th grade, for example, is currently finishing a project studying the different forms of energy used to create electricity and their consequences to our planet. The 7th and 8th grade are working on their first book report of the year and are doing a great job tying in their creativity and knowledge of a book of their choice. These are just a couple of things going on in the upper grades. For more updates please follow us on our Google Classroom page!

Minimum Required Distribution (MRD) Season

Page 6: s3.amazonaws.com · Web view3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade: It is hard to believe that we are almost through the first quarter. The students continue to work hard in all of their classes

Are you required to make a minimum required distribution (MRD) this year? If so, you may want to consider making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to avoid tax penalties.

A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is a direct transfer of funds from your IRA custodian, payable to a qualified charity. QCDs can be counted toward satisfying your minimum required distributions (MRD) for the year, as long as certain rules are met.

In addition to the benefits of giving to charity, a QCD excludes the amount donated from taxable income, which is unlike regular withdrawals from an IRA. Keeping your taxable income lower may reduce the impact to certain tax credits and deductions, including Social Security and Medicare.

There are certain requirements, such as a person must be 70½ or older to make a QCD. If you are interested in making a QCD to the church, the Endowment Committee has a financial advisor willing to assist you through this process. Please feel free to contact an Endowment Committee Board Member:

Kevin Dahlke 536-0274, Jean Doell 845-5162, Steve Doell 471-7580, Lon Fager 360-6061, Paul Zeitler 845-2500

St. Paul Lutheran Endowment FundThe endowment fund receives financial gifts and invests them. The principal is kept intact and the interest is

used. It is a gift that keeps on giving.

Stewardship News & Views Out of His fatherly, divine goodness and mercy, God give us each time, talents, AND treasures as a means to bless those around us. We serve our neighbors with these things, blessing them with the blessings in which God has blessed us. We give of our time, talents and treasures to our families, our society, and to our church, our local congregations. And we do this because we know that we are not our own. Rather, we belong to God. We have been bought with a price – with the holy precious blood and innocent suffering and death of our Lord Jesus Christ. He gave everything – His time, His talents, and His treasure, --to have us as His own and to live under Him in His kingdom and serve Him in everlasting righteousness, innocence and blessedness. We have these things as gifts and blessings from God. Let us then press them all into service for the sake of His love.
