A New Year, A NewWay of Experiencing

Home New years are often atime to think about newbeginnings  andsometimes that includesthinking about a newway of living in andenjoying our homespaces.

Here are a few ideas toconsider that don'tinclude a full kitchen orbathroom remodel, butare ways of making ourhome a new experienceto enjoy every day ofthis coming year.

Be Inspired: WilliamMorris, father of the Arts& Crafts movementfamously said, "Havenothing in your homeyou do not find to bebeautiful or useful.

If you look around yourhome and realize youdon't feel a connection tothe things that surround

you, it's time to donateand send them on tosomeone who willtreasure them.

Then, begin to collectobjects and items thatnurture and inspire you.

Consider enlarging andframing your best scenicphotographs fromvacations as dailyreminders of the placesand people you enjoymost.

Every direction you gazein your home, your eyeshould be able to restupon an object, a coloror an image that brings asmile to your face.

Live Well Daily:  I readan article a few yearsago where an interviewerwas chiding writer JoanDidion for using her goodsilver at the dining tableeach day.  She replied,"Why not?  Everyday isall there is."

Another of my favoritequotes is, "The journeyis the reward."  Since thejourney is a series of"everyday" moments, why not make thosemoments beautiful?

Enjoy the good china foryour morning tea.

Cluster a grouping ofyour favorite vases andobjects of art to greetyou on the entry tablewhen you return homefrom work.

Pull out a treasuredafghan or quilt that yourgrandmother made foryou as a child and drapeit as a throw for colorand texture and goodmemories.

GetOrganized: Consider thepeace of mind that iscreated when our spacesare well organized.

Victoria Bryan Artist Reception

The kitchen and pantryare a great place to startas most of us use thisspace at least twice aday.

Work on simple and easyaccess to the items youneed to use mostfrequently.

Make sure every itemhas a planned home. Use drawer dividers andindividual trays.  Dividersabove the fridge aregreat for cutting boards,cookie sheets andserving trays to be ableto store them verticallyinstead of stacked onone another. This makesfor easy breezy access!

Let pantry doors dodouble duty by usingcork board or chalkboard paint on theinsider surface.  Perfectfor leaving inspirationalmessages and grocerylists.  Key hooks areanother great idea herebecause they are visuallytucked away, but easy toaccess.

For closets, flexiblestorage options areoptimal.  It's great toinstall a system that canbe adjusted by theseason.

For instance, you mayneed more height in thesummer if you wearmostly dresses duringthis season.  But if youwear skirts and sweatersin the winter, you maywant to adjust the samespace to have two rodsduring that season tomaximize hanging space.

Color is one of the mostpowerful ways to changethe feel of a space!

It's also one of the lesscostly ways of changingup the look and feel ofyour rooms!

New Items  Just In!

These Metallic Accent Infinity Scarves have just a subtleamount of beautiful sparkle!  $16.75 each

I recommend thinkingthru the color directionfor your homes interioras a whole instead ofthinking about color oneroom at a time.

Every room can feelunique, while alsocreating a pleasing andharmonious flow to thehome.

When initially looking atcolors to pull together,consider your color chipsin natural bright lightfrom a north facingwindow.  The effects ofchanging sunlight will beminimized here.

Once your direction isset, consider theswatches in the roomsthey will go in and in allthe types of light thatroom experiences.  Theway the buttery yellowpaint you like in thebreakfast room appearsin the morning will becompletely different aftersundown with theincandescent or LEDlights that illuminate theroom after dark.

The more colors you arewanting to work with,the more challenging it isto create color harmony.If you are unsure or if itis your first time puttingtogether a palette,consider keeping itsimple.

For instance, choose aneutral warm gray asyour primary color andthen keep your othercolor choices in the samevalue (level oflightness/darkness).  Forinstance, the soft greenselected for your mastersuite shouldn't be muchlighter or darker thanyour gray out in the hall.

Transitioning betweenpaint colors in differentrooms of an older home

is generally easier thanin many of the newhomes being createdtoday. Older homes havemolding framing out theopenings between roomsthat will be finished in acontrasting trim color that makes the transitionsimple.

Many new homes havedrywall with curvedcorners in the openingsbetween rooms  makesure you consider this asyou plan your colorlayout.

Layer In Art to giveyour rooms a newinspiration point.

I like to seek out localyoung artistic talentswhose work I love  andin doing this you are ableto invest in original artfor a fraction of what youwould often pay for evenjust a print by an alreadywell known artist.

Sometimes I will use aclient's favorite artworkto dictate the directionwe go with the colorpalette for their home.

Think about the size ofthe art you are addinginto a room.  A paintingthat is small on a largewall can feel lost.

Make sure that if yournew artwork is bold toleave a proportionalamount of space on thewall to surround it.

Typically art pieces areenjoyed best when hungso that the center of thepainting is at eye level.When assisting clientswith an art installation, Ialways take intoconsideration the client'sheight.  Eye level will bequite different for a 6'2"client than it is for me at5'4"!

I love this cozy Faux Fur Bolero!!  Available in Ivory and

Black.  $67.50 each.

Sheridan Brooks has brought in a number of beautiful

new pieces!  They start at just $30.

Be sure to consider howyou will light your newart.  A well placed spotlight can be a wonderfulthing!

With artwork you alreadyhave, consider changingit up.  As years go by itis sometimes a good ideato rotate our artcollections so that wesee them again withfresh eyes.

Consider moving piecesbetween rooms or simplychanging the color of thewall to offset the art in anew and interesting way.

These are just a few ofthe ways we can create anew and freshexperience in how weenjoy our homes!

I hope your home andwork spaces will be ableto nurture and inspireyou in 2017!!

Cheers!!!
