The purpose of this workshop is to plan a national
Diploma in Family Medicine and Primary Care for South
Africa. This Diploma is envisaged as a training model to
go to scale, by re-orientating the collective body of
practising primary care doctors (medical officers and
general practitioners) towards functioning in the new
NHI and integrated health system.
The workshop is funded by the EuropeAid project,
“Strengthening primary health care through primary
care doctors and family physicians” (SAAFP is an
associate member of the project). This workshop feeds
into one of its activities. This activity’s outcome is “a
new nationally designed Diploma level training
programme to up-skill and re-orientate existing primary
care doctors.”
Workshop attendees include representatives from each
South African Family Medicine department, as well as a
registrar representative. Alphen boutique hotel provides
the perfect space to allow for creative thinking. The
organisers trust that this workshop will meet its
purpose and that the attendees will enjoy this
collaborative opportunity.
