Mass Intentions for this week

On Saturday, June 8th, at the 5:30 pm Mass, we will have Bishop David Choby with us to cele-brate the 175th Anniversary of the Nashville Diocese. Following the Mass there will be a pot-luck supper in the school. Meat will be provided, so each family attending, please bring a side dish and/ or a dessert. There will be sign up sheets on the back table beginning on May 18th & 19th. Please sign up ASAP with the number you will be bringing so that we will know how much meat to prepare. We hope to see everyone there! Thank you!

Father Robert has asked us to apologize for failing to give the Mother’s Day blessing to the mothers who attended the 5:30 Mass & the 8:00 am Mass last weekend. Father says he simply forgot, but that he will say extra prayers for you to make up for his omission. He is sorry!

Pentecost

The word Pentecost begins with the prefix “pent-, ” indicating the number “50,” because Pentecost falls 50 days after Easter Sunday. Jesus himself celebrated Pentecost under the name of the Feast of Weeks. This Jewish feast recalled the giving of the Mosaic Law on Mt. Sinai. Jews still celebrate it today under the name of Shavuot and as such, it closes the Passover season. For Christians, Pentecost recalls the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles, with its manifestations of wind and fire. This is de-scribed in the Acts of the Apostles 2: 1-31. Pentecost brings the Easter season to an end and we again enter into Ordinary Time.
