Dear loving Sacred Heart family,
Warm greetings my beloved brothers and sisters in Christ. I know many of you
are worried about my health and well-being. I want to assure you I am fine. I am
very blessed and touched by the overwhelming care and concern you have shown
me upon learning of the possible exposure to the coronavirus.
I would like the opportunity to offer some clarity and comfort concerning our
current situation. I was informed Monday morning from our local health
department that I have been exposed to someone who tested positive for Covid-19. As soon as the call was received,
I immediately contacted the Diocese. It is under their guidance, the local health
department guidelines, and with a desire to proceed with what is best for everyone
that I am self-quarantining for 14 days. According to our local health department
guidelines, anyone who has been exposed to a positive Covid-19 case should
self-quarantine for 14 days. I have not been diagnosed with Covid-19, I took a rapid test and the results showed
negative, but as a precautionary measure, I have been tested (nasal test) and am awaiting the results. I ask for your
prayers that the result will be negative. Upon being informed of the possible exposure, I made the decision to cancel
in-person Masses out of an abundance of caution and prudence for the safety of the parishioners of Sacred Heart of
Bluefield and Princeton. I want to assure you that we will not resume Masses until the quarantine period is over and
all re-testing has negative results.
I feel certain that with the vacation season upon us and with the rise in cases in our area, we will encounter more
situations like this. I ask you all to continue to be prudent and take the necessary precautions for the safety and well-
being of all. When in doubt, err on the side of caution. Please continue to join me for the next two weeks for live-streamed Masses weekdays at 6:00pm and Sunday at
10am. In closing, we will get through these uncertain times together. Let us continue to pray for those effected by the
coronavirus showing them love and compassion. Let us also pray for a vaccine and cure. We will focus on the day
when we can once again come together to worship freely and offer God our praise and thanksgiving. Until that day, may almighty God bless and protect you all, in the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
Our trust is in the Lord, Father Sebastian
An Update from Father Sebastian dated July 10th. Dear loving Sacred Heart family, It is with thanksgiving to God and a joyful heart that I share with you wonderful news! I was officially informed yesterday that I tested negative for the coronavirus. This is the second confirmed negative result. I feel great relief! I appreciate your prayers and encouragement during this time of waiting. I want to thank you for your loving care and concern for me. As your shepherd, it is my duty to tend to and protect our flock from harm. I cannot do this alone. I need your help! I ask each of you to help me by being very mindful and diligent in shielding one another from the spread of the coronavirus by following the guidelines set forth by our state and diocese. Your well-being is my greatest concern. Let us continue to pray the Rosary together in spiritual solidarity every day at 3pm. We will join our prayers together asking God to protect our people, heal those whose health is affected by the coronavirus, bless the healthcare workers, comfort those who have lost their livelihood and to bestow wisdom upon those searching for a cure. I also ask you to please join me each weekday at 6pm and Sundays at 10am for live-streamed Mass. May the Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face shine on you and be gracious to you; the Lord turn his face toward you and give you peace. Thanks be to God, Fr. Sebastian

❖ Deacon Don Hammond at (304) 320-6037
❖ Diane Ott at (606) 205-9724
In case of Illness: Please call the parish office to let us know if you, a family member, or a parishioner is sick. We can place your
name on the prayer list. At this time, since the most vulnerable are our elderly, sick, and those with certain health issues, we are
temporarily suspending until further notice visiting and distributing holy communion in the home.
Nursing home & rehabilitation centers: Many of these facilities have limited who may enter. Fr. Sebastian will follow the
guidelines posted by the facility.
Anyone who is hospitalized: Hospitals are limiting access to patients out of an abundance of caution. Fr. Sebastian will follow the
hospital guidelines.
In case of serious or life-threatening sickness or the actively dying: Fr. Sebastian or Deacon Don should be contacted as soon as
possible. It is imperative with current situations, that there be enough time for Fr. Sebastian to go through the appropriate protocol to
visit the actively dying.
Please consider….
Since we are in the summer vacation months and many are traveling out of
the area or out of state, please take the time to check the status of Covid-19
cases where you are visiting and consider self-quarantining for 14 days,
(recommended guidelines), or getting a Covid-19 test before returning to
church. As we have always requested and is now mandated by the Governor
of West Virginia please continue to wear a facial mask, wash your hands
often, and practice social distancing. It is important to do all we can to stop
the spread of this virus. For more information you can check out this link:

Dear Parishioners of Sacred Heart Bluefield,
It has been a pleasure to be here for the last 6 weeks. I regret that my time here has been short, but it hasn't been without learning what a vibrant Catholic community exists here. I am grateful for the kindness, hospitality, and knowledge that I have received during my brief time here. I am astounded daily by the beauty of this area and the friendliness of the people I've met. I want to express a special thanks to the men and women who volunteer at the Wednesday Food Pantry. I look forward to returning this coming school year over one of our breaks. I am grateful to Fr. Sebastian Embrayil Devasya for his knowledge and his example of what a holy priest can accomplish. Please be assured of my prayers for Sacred Heart Bluefield. I humbly ask for your prayers for me. Until we meet again, may God be always praised.
In Christ through Mary,
John Soplinski
Dear beloved brothers and sisters in Christ,
It is customary during seminary summer break for seminarians to be assigned to parishes throughout the diocese. This practice is a way of giving them meaningful experiences and immersing them into parish life. This summer we were blessed to receive Seminarian John Soplinski. I feel quite sure John never imagined part of his journey to priesthood would include an assignment to southern West Virginia during a world pandemic. He has handled this unusual circumstance with grace and an open heart. John arrived at our parishes on June 2nd. He has been a great companion and help to me
during his stay. John has assisted me in preparing the Altar for both weekday and Sunday
Masses. He also prepared and delivered beautiful spiritual mediations before each Mass. John
has been a steadfast volunteer at our Bluefield Food pantry during his stay. He graciously
accepted the responsibility of sending out daily prayer reflections to the Princeton Anchor
prayer group as well as facilitated a zoom Bible study on the Gospel of Matthew.
This experience has enriched both John and our parish. The time has come for John to return
to his studies in Morgantown. He will depart this Friday. Thank you, John, for your great
service to both Bluefield and Princeton parishes. You are in our thoughts and prayers as you
continue on our journey to priestly ordination. We wish you safe travels and good health.
Please join me in a special blessing for Seminarian John:
God our Father,
Thank you for calling John to prepare for priesthood. Give him humility, meekness,
prudence, and a burning zeal for souls. Fill his heart with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Grant
him the grace to grow closer to You through daily prayer. Help him form his personality as a
credible witness to others. Teach him to know and love the Church, that he may always and
everywhere speak, act, and think with her, the glorious spouse of Christ. Teach him
generosity and detachment from worldly goods; but above all, teach him to know You and to
love the One and Only Eternal Priest.
Bless him while he studies Your word and the teachings of the Church, and give him a
generous heart to serve Your people.
We ask this through Your Son, Jesus Christ, our great High Priest.
Amen
Fr. Sebastian E Devasya
