FAREWELL On Friday we say farewell to Jagger and Delilah Grentell, who with their family, are returning to Townsville a er a short  me with us at Sacred Heart.  We wish them and their family all the very best.

Upcoming Dates

Dear Parents and Carers,  

What wonderful opportuni es the students con nue to be engaged in to enrich their learning.  Not least is the learning in Kindergarten where each Kindergarten has had to research, inquire, problem solve, design and        imagine to create a shelter for their pet.  This is contemporary learning at its best.  

It is exci ng to have the slab for the new building laid.  Shouldn’t be long now before we see the frame star ng to appear!  Thank you to all of you for working with us whilst the carpark had to be closed for work associated with the new building. 

Semester one student reports will be sent home on Friday  28th June.  There are some changes to the report format with reports being distrib-uted online through the Compass app.  An informa on flyer will be sent out to you all in week 8.  Following reports teachers will provide the   opportunity for conversa ons with them about student progress and future goals.  It is hoped that all parents will take up this opportunity.  Interviews will be available on Monday 1st July, Tuesday 2nd July and Wednesday 3rd July. 

On Tuesday 11th June at 1pm in the school hall our school community will gather together to celebrate the life of Sonny Moore.  Parents and friends of our community are welcome to join with us if they would like to. 

Mrs Haggar is back at school a er her educa onal tour in Finland.  She has many learnings and reflec ons to share with us.  Mrs Haggar will share some key learnings at our school assembly on 14th June at 2.30pm.  Interested parents are invited to ‘come and hear’. 

Teachers this week are having their Maths lessons videoed.  Following the videoing each teacher meets with a peer to discuss elements of the lesson.  It is called microteaching and aims to have an impact on the quality of teaching in our school. 

We presently have Amelia Fitzgerald working with us as a work experi-ence student.  She is loving the opportunity of working in classrooms. 

For families whose children are preparing for the Sacrament of          Reconcilia on there is a mee ng for all parents on Wednesday 19th June at 6.00pm. It is important that your family is represented at the mee ng.  The Sacrament of Reconcilia on will be celebrated on      Thursday 1st August. 

When the risen Jesus visited the disciples before he returned to his Father in Heaven, he promised to send the Holy Spirit

to be with the Church always. The Holy Spirit came to the dis-ciples on Pentecost. We celebrate the feast of Pentecost this

weekend.

Pentecost People Come, Holy Spirit, and make us Pentecost people.

Let your wisdom and right judgement guide our decisions

and temper our impulses.

Let knowledge and understanding increase our capacity for

empathy and compassion.

Let reverence and awe fill us with gratitude and respect for

all of creation.

Give us the courage to witness boldly to our faith in word

and deed.

If you shop at Woolworths please remember to collect the Earn and Learn stickers and bring them into school where we have a box outside the office. There is also a box at Woolworths Kooringal. This is a great opportunity for us to acquire resources for the school.

Sports Report ‐ Week 6 Mackillop Touch Congratulations to Cody Plum and Zaylee White who represented the Wagga Diocese at the Mackillop trials in Sydney last week. Cody was selected in the possible and probables and just missed out on making the Mackillop team. Zaylee commented that the Sydney teams were extremely strong but that she thoroughly enjoyed the experience! Diocesan Athletics On Monday I received confirmation of the students who have made the Deanery Athletics Team to compete in the Diocesan Athletics Carnival in Albury next term. Congratulations to Patrick Murphy, Elvis Conteh, Paige Plum, Ava Darby-Richardson, Jazmin Myles, Molly Stephen, Cody Plum, Jackson Murdoch and Abdul Conteh. Further details will be sent home next week. Gymnastics Notes and permission envelopes were sent home regarding the Gymnastics program that all students will participate in during Term 3. The cost is $50 per student. Please see the office if you need to put a payment plan in place. The program is run by qualified coaches from Little Champions Mobile Gymnastics. Rugby Union Trials Congratulations to Rylee Young and Jett Morris who will represent the Diocese at the the Mackillop Trials in Forbes on July 1st. Good luck boys! Anxiety in Children

We see an increasing number of students who display signs of anxiety. This ar cle will paraphrase an ar cle by Michael Grose, who is one of Australia's leading paren ng and educa onal writers and speakers, which may assist in this area. The symptoms of anxiety may look like; Agita on. Restlessness. Ina en on, poor focus. Soma c symptoms like headaches or stomach aches. Avoidance. Tantrums. Crying. Refusing to go to school. If your child feels anxious, reassure them that these feelings are a normal response to new people, events or challenges. Help your child under-stand that there is a great deal they can do to manage their anxious feelings, so they can get on with the ac vi es they enjoy. If your child is anxious they may struggle to explain how they feel. An important first step in anxiety self-management is knowing how to respond. Respond with Empathy When your child feels anxious, the part of the brain that controls ra onal thinking, decision-making and concentra on temporarily goes offline. They can feel easily overwhelmed by simple, everyday events and situa ons. Rather than protec ng your child by allowing them to avoid mee ng these challenges, or dismissing them as trivial, validate their feelings with statements such as: “I see you’re really anxious about this right now. I know it’s hard for you.” It is important to resist the tempta on to rescue or fix a situa on. Respond with empathy and understanding to your child’s concerns. How to manage the anxious moments It is important your child develops tools to combat when they are anxious, and that they prac se them when they are calm. These can in-clude; Taking some deep breaths - this calms the sec on of the brain that induces anxiety Ge ng them moving - it’s a great distrac on and releases endorphins to make them feel be er Defusing their thoughts - it can be hard to change their feelings, but by ge ng to ar culate their thinking this can distance their thoughts from what is happening. For example, by changing “I’m going to fail the test” to “I feel that I’m going to fail the test” can distance them from their unhealthy thoughts. And Finally… Sufficient sleep, good nutri on and exercise are essen al for anxious kids. Support your child to keep to their bed me so they wake naturally each morning, reduce sugar and put an emphasis on good nutri on, reduce ‘screen me’ and encourage regular exercise for op mal mental health.
