Dear Parishioners,
I received a letter from the Vicar General this week and he announced that we will not be having public worship through May. I know this is a disappointment to everyone but reflecting on it I would say it is a wise decision. If we scheduled Masses, we have to wonder if people would come if they did not feel safe? Would it be truly safe? The Mass is meant to be a moment of physical closeness with others not a time when we hold others at arm’s length. We will have to pray that we can worship safely again soon. Until we come back together, we will continue to have live streaming Masses. We are not supposed to have gatherings of over 10 people this month. This will limit the rest of our ministry. We are also not supposed to open churches. The cases of COVID-19 continues to rise. Now is not the time
to take chances.
We will start scheduling Mass intentions again. Fr. Matthew and I will be saying Mass together almost every day. We will try to go back and pick up some of the Masses we skipped over starting on May 1st. Watch the bulletin for a schedule.
Seton School will also be having only virtual classes the rest of the year. Please pray for all those who are trying to educate students right now. Seton School is recruiting kindergarten and preschool students for the fall. Please go to their WEB page to take a tour if you have a child that is interested or give the information to young parents who have children of that age.
I pray that our Blessed Mother and all the angels and saints will watch over you today.
Blessings, Fr. Mark
Mass Intentions This week we should have a better idea how long it will be before we can hold public worship again. I suspect it is going to take a while. One of the things that I am sure that we miss is having Masses offered for deceased loved ones. Fr. Matthew and I take a Mass intention every day. We are both at the 8 a.m. Mass during these days of confinement. In May we will begin offering Masses for specific individuals again. We will begin with those Masses that we skipped over during the last month. If a Mass was scheduled, but there was not a specific date requested we will offer those Masses first. Offering Masses on specific date is going to be tricky. We will try to contact parishioners who have asked for specific times and dates to arrange Masses. Hopefully, everyone will be able to attend via live streaming. This is not a perfect situation, but we will do the best we can.

Our collections have been disrupted so we will not be listing collection totals. They would not give much context to what we are experiencing. We will have to report financial information in another fashion in future communications. This is a time of great financial turmoil for all of us including our parish. We still need your support. Please donate on our WEB page at sacredheartmoline.org or mail your donations to the parish center at 1608 13th Street, Moline, IL 61265. We appreciate and thank all who have donated this past week.

For Your Information Everyone’s financial picture is unclear in this time of national crisis. It seems premature to give a financial report for our parish because things are still unfolding. We are dipping into savings to make our ordinary expenses. We are trying to cut expenses and pursue government assistance when it might be available. Whatever donations you can offer right now are greatly appreciated and will be used to continue the ministries of Sacred Heart as we look into the future.
Please remember Sacred Heart in your estate planning. Bequests are very important to the financial future of Sacred Heart Parish.

During this challenging time, the staff at Sacred Heart is constantly thinking of ways on how we can stay connected to our
parish families. One easy way to stay connected is by sharing your email address with the parish office. If you have an email address and have not updated your information with the office, please consider sending your email address to: [email protected] and we can update your status. Thank you for helping us stay connected to you. It is so important!
O Mary,
you always shine on our path
as a sign of salvation and of hope.
We entrust ourselves to you, Health of the Sick,
who at the cross took part in Jesus' pain,
keeping your faith firm.
You, Salvation of the Roman People,
know what we need,
and we are sure you will provide
so that, as in Cana of Galilee,
we may return to joy and to feasting
after this time of trial.
Help us, Mother of Divine Love,
to conform to the will of the Father
and to do as we are told by Jesus,
who has taken upon himself our sufferings
and carried our sorrows
to lead us, through the cross,
to the joy of the resurrection. Amen.
Under your protection, we seek refuge, Holy Mother of God.
Do not disdain the entreaties of we who are in trial,
but deliver us from every danger,
O glorious and blessed Virgin.

SECOND-HAND SALE As you may have guessed by now, the Annual Second Hand Sale has been cancelled for 2020. We considered moving the sale to the end of summer, but that too brings complications with using the building at the same time as the school needs the building. Our committee would like to thank those of you that have taken advantage of this Stay At Home Order to begin cleaning out those closets and basements with the sale in mind. We are hoping you have a corner to put these items until next summer. We will need your items then to make this sale a success and help us to continue to pay for the Stained Glass Window: The Agony in the Garden. Thank you for your continued help and support with this fund-raiser for our parish.
Vatican City, Mar 21, 2020 / 06:00 am (CNA).- As more Catholics around the world find themselves unable to receive the Eucharist due to the coronavirus pandemic, Pope Francis provided an example of a spiritual communion prayer that can be said from home.
“My Jesus, I believe that You are present in the Most Holy Sacrament of the altar. I love You above all things, and I desire to receive You into my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive You sacramentally, come at least spiritually into my heart ... I embrace You as if You were already there and unite myself wholly to You. Never permit me to be separated from You,”

DAILY MISSALS For your convenience, daily missalettes are available at the back door of the rectory along with the Easter Water. The missalettes have been sitting in a box in our chapel. It would be good to have them used for prayer. Come and get one when you are out getting groceries or medications. Hopefully, this will be a comfort at this difficult time when almost everyone cannot attend Mass.

UPDATED INFORMATION FOR CATHOLIC SCHOOLS
Financial Assistance Available to Attend a Catholic
School in the Diocese of Peoria Application Deadline Extended until May 31, 2020
Tuition assistance scholarship grants are available for the 2020-2021 academic year from the endowment fund established after the Diocese of Peoria ROOTED IN FAITH Campaign and named in honor of Archbishop Spalding, the first Bishop of Peoria. Scholarships will be awarded to students enrolled in or intending to enroll in grades Kindergarten through 12 in any Catholic school located in the Diocese of Peoria whose families are active members of a Catholic parish in the diocese. All grants will be based on financial need objectively assessed. Information about the grants and application materials may be found on the Diocesan website at www.cdop.org under Catholic Education and then under Financial Assistance. Consult the revised detailed protocols and procedures and the checklist for all requirements necessary to be eligible for an award. Parents must apply online at: online.factsmgt.com/aid. Families of students currently receiving scholarships are reminded that they are for one year only, and anyone seeking to receive a scholarship for the 2020-2021 school year must reapply. Deadline date for the completed application has been extended to May 31, 2020 due to the extenuating circumstances families are experiencing because of the coronavirus. Notification of grant awards will be made in early July or sooner if possible.
