Saturday Evening: 5:00 PM Sunday:10:00AM, 12:00PM 1st Sunday 8:00 AM Italian/English Mass Monday-Saturday: 9:00 AM in the Chapel Holy Days of Obligation: Mass times will be listed in the bulletin on the Sunday prior to the holy day.

CELEBRATION OF SACRAMENTS

BAPTISM: Communal celebrations of Baptism take place on the first and third Sundays at 2:00 PM. To arrange a Bap-tism, please call the Rectory. A Baptismal Instruction Session is required before the Baptism. Because Godparents play an im-portant role in the child’s Christian life and education, Godpar-ents must be practicing Catholics who have been confirmed, are at least 14 years of age and, if married, must be in a mar-riage recognized by the Catholic Church. If there is a question about the suitability of someone to be a Godparent, please call the Rectory before asking the person to be a Godparent. RECONCILIATION: The Sacrament of Penance takes place on Saturdays from 4:00 to 4:45 PM. At other times, the person should make the request directly to a priest. MARRIAGE: Engaged couples should contact the Rectory at least six months in advance. Diocesan regulations require a marriage preparation program for all couples. MINISTRY TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND: If a parishion-er is in the hospital or homebound, please contact the Rectory. Arrangements can be made for the person to receive the Sac-rament of the Anointing of the Sick. Also, Holy Communion can be brought to our homebound parishioners.

KEEPING UP WITH EXPENSES The parish effort to closely manage day to day expens-es continues. However, expenses such as utilities, prop-erty insurance and our archdiocesan assessment for central services (in some months totaling as much as $15,000) put a strain on our ability to keep current with all expenses. Our objective is to achieve that goal with-out any assistance from the Archdiocese. The continued generosity of every parishioner and increased giving whenever possible will make that possible. Thank you for your continued support.

PARISHIONER REGISTRATION Parishioner registration is important to the parish as well as the parishioner. All parishioners are encouraged to register. Once you have registered and continue to par-ticipate by attending Mass and receiving the Eucharist regularly; you will find it helpful for the enrollment of children in the Religious Education Program, and to obtain the necessary documents to become a Godpar-ent or a sponsor for Confirmation. If you would like to register please stop by the rectory during regular business hours. Monday thru Friday 9am to 4pm. If you are presently receiving envelopes and would like them discontinued please call the rectory and we will assist you. (845-561-2264)

R.I.C.A. News

In our parish, the process known as the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA) is available to anyone who would like to have the opportunity to learn about the beliefs and practices of the Roman Catholic Church. The process is open to any adult who is unbaptized, or a member of a denomination other than the Catholic Church, or a baptized Catholic who has not completed reception of the Sacraments of Initiation, (Eucharist and/or Confirmation). The formal aspects of the RCIA program will take individuals through various stages of study, prayer, and spiritual formation culminating in baptism (for non- Christians) or full reception into the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. If you know a man or woman who has expressed some personal interest in Catholicism please contact the rectory at (845-561-2264). Informal introductory sessions will acquaint the inquirer with the RCIA process and will be the first step in their journey of faith.

Second Collection Next weekend April 30 and May 1, there will be a second collection to aid the Church in Central and Eastern Europe. Thank you for your continued generosity.

Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen

TRUE CHRISTIAN COMMUNITY Can you imagine a world such as the one put before us in today’s scripture readings? Communities of believ-ers everywhere would support and encourage one another and be identified as Christians by the way they love each other. It would be a world with no tears, no death and mourning, no crying out in pain. “Behold, I make all things new,” we hear the Son of God say in the second reading from the book of Revelation (21:5). Is this world of John’s vision only imaginary? Are these faithful followers for whom Jesus prayed only a savior’s dream? Today they are put before us as a worthy goal. How much closer can we come to this vision of a true Christian community in our lives today?

APOSTOLATE OF PRAYER

United each day, throughout the year, we pray for the members of our beloved clergy here in the Orange Coun-ty Vicariate:

Apr.25 Rev. Matthew Newcomb Rev. Michael Cedro Apr.26 Rev. Joseph Emmanuel Deacon Larry Kawula Apr.27 Rev. Joseph Fallon Rev. Thomas Roslak Apr.28 Rev. Jack Arlotta Deacon Thomas Neppl Apr.29 Rev. Jeffrey Maurer Rev. Paul Dmoch Apr.30 Kenneth Nielson Most Rev. Peter Byrne May 1 Pope Francis Auxiliary Bishops Father, in your plan of salvation, you provide shepherds for your people. Fill your Church with the spir-it of courage and love. Raise up worthy ministers to your altars, ardent servants of the Gospel. To those clergy among us who have answered your call, grant joy and perseverance in your service. We pray in the name of Jesus, your Son and Eternal High priest. Amen

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION The French Revolution swept the church in France away in an astonishing way, stripping the nation of every possi-ble vestige of the faith, not merely shuttering churches, but using them as staging areas for pagan raves and romps. While millions of faithful simply went under-ground and hung on for the ride, even the seven-day week was demolished along with the names of the months. What emerged from the chaos was the Napoleonic Code of 1792 governing church life, and therefore marriage law in France, French Canada, and elsewhere. The code makes civil marriage mandatory for all citizens. In practice, when the faithful marry, they go first to the City Hall. There, the mayor performs the civil mar-riage, usually accompanied by a patriotic speech about the duties of the citizen, particularly in the rearing of chil-dren. Then, typically after a lunch, everyone goes off to change into more festive attire for the wedding liturgy, featuring consent, the exchange of rings, and the nuptial blessing. Sadly, only a minority of citizens today cele-brate even the civil form of the rite, and a fraction of those continue on to the church. For those who do cele-brate the liturgy of marriage, however, there is near cer-tainty that the spouses are active worshipers, and that they will later present their children for baptism.
