From Time to Eternity

It was after the funeral of old Mr. Belser, and Jack and his

mother went back to Mr. Belser’s house for one last look. "Wow—I have great memories of Mr. Belser. He's the one who taught me carpentry; I wouldn't have this business today if it weren't for him.” “Yes,” his mother agreed. “After your father died, he stepped in to be sure you’d have a man in your life.”

His neighbor’s house was exactly as Jack remembered. Every picture, every piece of furniture… except... “Wait,” Jack stopped suddenly... "Where is his old gold box, he always kept on his desk? He would only ever tell me, it contained the thing he valued most. Now I guess I’ll never know what that was.”

About two weeks later, a small package was special delivered to Jack. He tore it open, and his hands began to shake. “Upon my death, please forward to Jack Bennett.” As Jack opened the small gold box, his heart was pounding. Inside was a beautiful gold pocket watch. Jack unlatched the cover and read the words engraved:

"Jack, Thanks for your time!-Harold Belser." Jack felt tears in his eyes. "I was just a kid. He was busy, he must have had more important things to do. I can’t believe the thing he valued most was...my time.” The Easter miracle can be quietly re-lived, time and

again, by us—whenever we give the precious gift of time—really, the only gift we have to give to others. A joyful Easter, everyone! Oh, and—thanks for your time.

Go in peace to love and serve our God!

Why Catholics Celebrate Divine Mercy Sunday

On the Second Sunday of Easter of the

Julibee Year 2000, at the Mass for the

canonization of St. Faustina Kowalski, Pope John Paul II

proclaimed to the world that “from now on throughout the

Church this Sunday will be called Divine Mercy Sunday.”

The message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine

Mercy is based on the writings of St. Faustina and began

spreading throughout the world in the 1930’s. In his 1980

encyclical on God’s mercy, Rich in Mercy, Pope John

Paul developed a scriptural and doctrinal basis for our

faith in the mercy of God. By linking the revealed truth

about God’s mercy to one of the most solemn Sundays

after Easter, itself, he illumined the fact that the liturgy

already proclaimed the divine mercy. In Psalm 118 we

sing three times, “His mercy endures forever.” In the

Gospel from John 20:19-31, Jesus gives the apostles the

power of God’s mercy for the sinner, the gift of forgiving

sins from God’s treasury of mercy. “Receive the Holy

Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them.”

Come join us on Divine Mercy Sunday, 15th @ 2 p.m.

for Holy Hour with the Blessed Sacrament followed by

the Chaplet of Divine Mercy Devotion to be prayed @ 3

p.m. in the presence of the Eucharist. Benediction will

follow.

2012 Catholic Stewardship Appeal

Thank you to everyone that has contributed to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. In this year’s Appeal video the Bishop reminded us that when we do little things with love, then they become great things. I would like to invite those who have not yet partici-pated in the CSA to join the effort, and consider giving a gift of any size to the Catholic Stewardship Appeal. With your help, our parish’s goal can become some-thing great for the ministries of the Diocese of Corpus Christi. So far this is where our parish stands: Our Parish Goal to reach $59,844.00 As of today, the total pledged $49,096.00 Total Collected $18, 466.00 Commitment envelopes can be found at the back en-trance or in the parish office. Thank you for helping our parish do its part in the Diocese of Corpus Christi. Or go online and give safely and securely at dioce-secc.org/give.
