Sacred Heart Parish, Kew The Ascension of the Lord, Year B
13 May, 2018
People come into your life for a reason a season or a lifetime If you look at your life you will note there some people come into your life for a reason and once
accomplished they disappear. Others come into your life for a season. These friendships and
acquaintances can last months or even years. They shape and mould us help with difficult times
and celebrate in the good times. Yet in time they too leave and move on for a myriad of reasons.
No one is to blame for that is just how life is. People move on and friendships can slowly
dissipate and such is life. Then there are those who stay with us for a lifetime—the closest for
friends—parents— siblings— love ones; those who have weathered the storms of our lives with us
and know us as we truly are. There is the gift beyond price they help us when all else fails. They
are often the Voice of God offering sanctuary and challenging at the same time.
Who are the people in your life that offer you their best?
The Spiritual Experience of Ascension Spiritual growth is one of the rewarding of all human endeavours. To ascend spiritually is to
move forward and upward to reach beyond ourselves to experience that which
transcends us and our everyday human life. It is to experience the mystery of what we can
become without fully understanding that which we are experiencing. This is the doorway to the
dimensions of the spiritual realms found only to those who faithfully seek. It can only be opened
from within and is only opened when you are ready. To ascend is to move beyond oneself and to
be taken spiritually into another dimension. In this dimension the manifestation of potential is
comprehended if only for a few moment before your spirit is returned. For anyone who has had
this experience everything changes and yet paradoxically everything remains the same. The
world falls away, question become irrelevant and fall from your mind as inconsequential. A clarity
emerges that nullifies fears replaced by an inner knowing. Belief gives way to knowing.
Please take the spiritual road!
Take the Spiritual Road—one step at a time—Take the Spiritual Road
In overviewing the parish there is a need to develop a parish structure so groups can work
together and support each other.
Consequently I ask that you consider joining one of the following:
1. Pastoral group (to identify and respond to needs within the parish and beyond)
2. Hospitality and welcoming group
3. Parish celebration and events group (this group will need a co-ordinator)
4. Finance (any applicant will need experience in business, legal or financial matters)
5. Counters of the Sunday collections—(these groups will need a co-ordinator)
6. Lectors (Ministry of the Word)
7. Communion ministers (special ministers of the Eucharist)
8. Communion Service Minister (liturgy of the Word with Eucharist but no Mass)
9. Visitation to sick and elderly
10. Emergency assistance as required e.g. drivers, sitters, etc.
11. Liturgy group (to prepare weekend Masses)
12. Adult Formation, Education and Spiritualty group
13.Gardening group
14. Flowers and cleaning of altar linen
15. Altar Servers
16. Collectors
In the future we will be establishing a ‘Parish Co-ordinating Group’ to overview the parish as a whole
and to render assistance as necessary to any and all groups. These persons will offer totally
independent advice/assistance. Rosters are available for those who wish to join any of the above
groups.
Groups will only be established if there is enough interest.
The choice is yours!
An elderly Chinese woman had two large pots, each hung on the ends of a pole which she carried
across her neck.
One of the pots had a crack in it while the other pot was perfect and always delivered a full portion
of water. At the end of the long walks from the stream to the house, the cracked pot arrived only half
full.
For a full two years this went on daily, with the woman bringing home only one and a half pots of
water. Of course, the perfect pot was proud of its accomplishments.
But the poor cracked pot was ashamed of its own imperfection, and miserable that it could only do
half of what it had been made to do. After two years of what it perceived to be bitter failure, it spoke
to the woman one day by the stream. “I am ashamed of myself, because this crack in my side
causes water to leak out all the way back to your house.”
The old woman smiled, “Did you notice that there are flowers on your side of the path, but not on the
other pot's side?” “That's because I have always known about your flaw, so I planted flower seeds on
your side of the path, and every day while we walk back, you water them.'
For two years I have been able to pick these beautiful flowers to decorate the table. Without you
being just the way you are, there would not be this beauty to grace the house.'
Each of us has our own unique flaw. But it's the cracks and flaws we each have that make our lives
together so very interesting and rewarding. You've just got to take each person for what they are and
look for the good in them.
(Answers given by Year 2 school children to the following questions:)
Why did God make Mothers?
1. She's the only one who knows where the sticky tape is.
2. Mostly to clean the house.
3. To help us out of there when we were getting born.
How did God make mothers?
1. He used dirt, just like for the rest of us.
2. Magic plus super powers and a lot of stirring.
3. God made my Mum just the same like he made me. He just used bigger parts.
What ingredients are mothers made of ?
1. God makes mothers out of clouds and angel hair and everything nice in the world and one dab of mean.
2. They had to get their start from men's bones. Then they mostly use string, I think.
Why did God give you your mother & not some other mum?
1. We're related.
2. God knew she likes me a lot more than other people's mums like me.
What kind of little girl was your mum?
1. My Mum has always been my Mum and none of that other stuff.
2. I don't know because I wasn't there, but my guess would be pretty bossy.
3. They say she used to be nice.
What did Mum need to know about Dad before she married him?
1. His last name.
2. She had to know his background. Like is he a crook? Does he get drunk on beer?
3. Does he make at least $800 a year? Did he say NO to drugs and YES to chores?
Why did your Mum marry your Dad?
1. My Dad makes the best spaghetti in the world. And my Mum eats a lot.
2. She got too old to do anything else with him.
3. My Grandma says that Mum didn't have her thinking cap on.
Who's the boss at your house?
1. Mum doesn't want to be boss, but she has to because Dad's such a goof ball.
2. Mum. You can tell by room inspection. She sees the stuff under the bed.
3. I guess Mum is, but only because she has a lot more to do than Dad.
What's the difference between Mums & Dads?
1. Mums work at work and work at home & Dads just go to work at work.
2. Mums know how to talk to teachers without scaring them.
3. Dads are taller & stronger, but Mums have all the real power 'cause that's who you got to ask if you
want to sleep over at your friend's.
4. Mums have magic, they make you feel better without medicine.
What does your Mum do in her spare time?
1. Mothers don't do spare time.
2. To hear her tell it, she pays bills all day long.
What would it take to make your Mum perfect?
1. On the inside she's already perfect. Outside, I think some kind of
plastic surgery.
2. Diet. You know, her hair. I'd diet, maybe blue.
If you could change one thing about your Mum, what would it be?
1. She has this weird thing about me keeping my room clean. I'd get rid of that.
2. I'd make my Mum smarter. Then she would know it was my sister who did it and not me.
