Over the past century Herbosch-Kiere has played

an important role within Europe on marine, harbour

and river construction projects.

> Quays & Harbour walls

> Jetties & Dolphins

> Bridges

> Offshore installations

> Beach consolidation works

We specialise in heavy lifting over water, marine

salvages and dredging works. Herbosch-Kiere

work principally on projects within a marine

environment utilising in-house vessels and plant.

2

This in-house capability and design expertise

enables us to offer bespoke temporary and

permanent work solutions. From our offices we

focus on projects which have a high degree of

technical difficulty or logistical problems where our

marine experienced engineers provide the client

with safe innovative and economic solutions. We

continue to invest in marine plant to supplement

our existing substantial fleet of lifting and floating

equipment to ensure we have the right equipment

and resources to carry out specialist work. In

Antwerp we have a dedicated quay and workshop

where our marine plant is maintained to the highest

standards by company technicians. This workshop

Introduction

in the Port of Antwerp, one of the biggest ports of

Europe, provides us the opportunity to offer a global

marine service.

Within our fleet, our company owns the Albatros

and the Atlantis. The Atlantis is a versatile vessel

ideal for offshore renewable works, including cable

repair, recovery and installation. It also has the

ability to ground which is ideal for shallow water

cable and fibre optic laying.

Together with our subsidiairy company in the

United Kingdom and our participations in the

companies ‘Scaldis’ and ‘CTOW’ we aim to realise

sustainable projects. Our experience and knowledge

has given us several impressive references.

EIFFAGE

Herbosch-Kiere, is a member of the Eiffage Benelux

Group, which in turn is part of Eiffage France – one of

the largest civil, building and facilities management

contractors in Europe. Eiffage France employs some

70,000 people, has an annual turnover in excess of

€14 billion, with an international network of

500 subsidiaries. This includes construction,

concessions, roads, civil engineering, energy and

steelwork.

The financial stability of our long-established

parent group is reassuring for both us and our clients.

We can also call upon their considerable skills and

resources, including a substantial marine plant fleet.

SHEQ Management

improve the SHEQ performance of the company and

to produce industry best results. This will be

achieved by the nurturing of a positive culture,

avoiding risk exposure through changing work type,

methods or techniques, thereby designing out the

risks at the planning and design stage and ensuring

the implementation and adherence of safe systems

of work. To achieve this the company has developed

an approved integrated management system which

encompasses VCA**, ISO 9001:2008 and ISO

14001:2004 and follows the management process

set out below.

The Managing Director of Herbosch-Kiere, being

ultimately responsible for the SHEQ performance of

the company, its staff, workforce and operations on

site, actively ensures all SHEQ matters are properly

discharged by Herbosch-Kiere employees. Through

an integrated SHEQ management structure, suitably

qualified and experienced employees, rigorous

training and continuous improvement, Herbosch-

Kiere pursues a zero incident strategy towards

safety, environmental and quality issues. There is

real resolve and strong commitment from the

directors and senior managers to continuously

6 www.herbosch-kiere.com

Safety and Health

The Directors will ensure that Herbosch-Kiere

continues to meet its legal and moral obligations

through communication, consultation and involvement

of all employees and other stakeholders who may

be affected by our activities. The Herbosch-Kiere

Health & Safety Policy defines how we will manage

the health, safety and welfare of those affected by our

operations. It specifies systems and responsibilities

to ensure that the company’s activities are carried out

not only within the requirements of the law but also to

fulfill our corporate social responsibilities.

The Health and Safety Policy is supported by all

our procedures and systems. All employees, both

direct and sub-contract, are required to observe

the H&S policy. Herbosch-Kiere actively promotes

the involvement of stakeholders in providing a safe

place of work.

The company continually assesses its safety

performance and is committed to continuous

improvement. We have a commitment to developing

and training all our employees to enable them to

safely fulfill their roles.

Herbosch-Kiere’s foremost objective is the provision and maintenance of a safe

and healthy environment for clients, employees, contractors, visitors and the

general public. Achieving this requires the implementation of effective systems for

the assessment, control, monitoring and review of all our operations.

7www.herbosch-kiere.com

Quality

Herbosch-Kiere aims to ensure that all its products and services exceed the

expectations of our clients, by being of superior quality, delivered ahead of time

and within budget.

We consult with in-house and external experts to

assemble our quality plan to ensure that the work

we carry out can be planned, administered and

delivered to verifiable quality standards.

With each step of the process, from tender

review to completion certificate, quality assurance

is central to the way we do business. Supply chain

management plays an important role in this

respect. We assess the product specifications of

our suppliers so that we may agree standards and

establish clearly defined quality benchmarks to

which suppliers must adhere.

Our systems and processes dictate the way we

undertake all aspects of our work. We select,

appraise and review our supply chain partners:

suppliers, sub-contractors and designers. We

assess our suppliers’ product and specifications,

their quality systems, including quality benchmarks,

testing regimes, resource and available capacity to

ensure that they will be able to satisfy the

requirements of each particular project.

During the supply phase we audit their

performance. We collate and analyse performance

data and compare against defined and agreed

parameters making constructive criticisms to

encourage them to continuously improve their

performance.

8 www.herbosch-kiere.com

Environmental

Herbosch-Kiere is acutely aware of the environmental responsibility placed upon

them when completing works. At all project stages; tendering, planning and

construction we will use techniques, methods and equipment to minimise the

impact on the local and global environment and improve sustainability.

Our teams are trained and have the experience and

capability to adapt our methods to accommodate

any unforeseeable situations, and our site systems

permit us to respond quickly to any incident.

Herbosch-Kiere monitors its own and

subcontractors performance, implementing a

policy of technical advances and continuous

improvements to ensure compliance with legislation

and other requirements.

Employing a risk assessment based process to

minimise environmental impacts, we initially

identify potential hazards and then develop optimal

mitigation techniques and systems.

We are continually investigating new ways to

promote greater sustainability, conserve energy and

natural resources, and use more environmentally

responsible materials and techniques.

Personnel

Herbosch-Kiere recognize that an organisation is only as good as the people it

employs. We are able to draw on the experience of a team of professionals who

can demonstrate outstanding knowledge of marine construction, demolition and

heavy lifting.

issues are openly discussed. Our site and marine

based personnel are highly skilled and experienced

in maritime works.

Regular training on current Health and Safety

and maritime regulations and new specialist plant

ensures that the works, its people and equipment

achieve optimum efficiency with maximum safety.

Our record of success is based on our ability to

assemble the right team for the job.

Through recruitment, continual improvement,

regular training and career development Herbosch-

Kiere ensure their employees are motivated and

sufficiently experienced and qualified to plan,

design and manage complex maritime projects.

With yearly assessment interviews and an

individually fitted training programme with regular

in house development courses, personnel are

equipped to continue working in an environment

where a positive approach is valued and critical

Herbosch-Kiere was awarded, along with 2

additional partners, the contract to extend the

Harbour of Ostend. These works were divided into

three phases. Two dams were built in the sea using

800,000 tons of stone. The aim was not only to

improve the naval accessibility of the harbour but

more importantly to provide increased protection to

the Belgian coast in the event of flooding.

Ostend Harbour Dam> Eastern Dam = 791m

Delwaidedok NoordThe base of the quay of Delwaidedok, in Antwerp

required protection to avoid further erosion as a result

of the anchoring and maneuvering of ships. Erosion

at the quay edge was compromising its stability.

Herbosch-Kiere renovated the head of the quay

and delivered and installed bed protection across

the North quay. As a result asphalt mattresses are

now protecting the base of the quay over a length

of 1200m.

Works included:

> Demolition of the head of the quay wall.

> Repairing the existing quay walls.

> Placing new bollards with anchoring facilities.

> Installing scour protection along the quays.

The length of the quay each side is about 2km

(total length 4.7km). This container terminal, being

the MSC Home Terminal, is one of the largest

terminals in the world.

The works were executed in phases so as to keep

navigational disruption to a minimum. A special

lift frame was designed by Herbosch-Kiere to

accurately place each asphalt mattress.
