Safely Home I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright! There is perfect joy and beauty

In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over, Every restless tossing passed;

I am now at peace forever, Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder why I so calmly

Trod the valley of the shade: Oh! But Jesus’ love illumined Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me

In that way so hard to tread; And with Jesus’ arm to lean on,

Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely, For I love you dearly still;

Try to look beyond earth’s shadows, Pray to trust our Father’s will.

There is work still waiting for you,

So you must not idly stand, Do it now, while life remaineth You shall rest in Jesus’s land.

When that work is all completed,

He will gently call you Home; Oh, the rapture of the meeting. Oh, the joy to see you come!

Obituary

Marshall Scott McCormick, II, 62, of Crossett, passed away

peacefully on Thursday, April 16, 2020, at the Baptist Health

Medical Center in Little Rock. He was born in Salina, Kansas, on

August 18, 1957, was a 1976 graduate of Crossett High School,

and a member of the North Crossett First Baptist Church.

Scott faithfully served the City of Crossett and its citizens for

nearly 42 years, beginning his tenure with the Crossett Police

Department, where he served from 1978 to 1998. During this

time, he became a criminal investigator, along with earning

the rank of Captain. In November of 1998, he was elected as

the Mayor of Crossett and was re-elected to serve an

unprecedented five additional terms

His honorable service also extended outside the borders of our

community. A few of the other hats he wore included being

an ambassador for Crossett for twenty years as a member of

the Arkansas Municipal League’s Executive Committee, serving

as Vice President of District 4 for 2009 and 2010, and serving on

the First Class Cities Advisory Council and the Public Safety

Advisory Council.

Mayor McCormick was more than the leader of the city; he

was a friend. He was authentic in all respects to employees

and citizens alike. He was a kind, tender-hearted man who

adored his wife and best friend, Mary. His happiest moments

included, taking trips with Mary and his friends, baiting hooks

with his grandson, and enjoying John Wayne westerns.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall Scott, I and

Yvonne Evelyn Wolf McCormick, and his wife, Mary Ruth White

McCormick.

His survivors include two sons, Sean McCormick of Dumas and

Wesley McCormick of Crossett; his sister, Stacy Johnson, and
