Congratulations to J.E. McAmis, Inc. and Contract Drilling and Blasting (CDB) for completing the Rock Blasting Phase of the Columbia River Channel Improvements Project. This was the culmination of a tremendous effort by all involved. Approximately 550,000 SF of rock was blasted, 4,000 holes were loaded with explosives, and 90 blasts were set off. Through the partnering process, technical challenges were solved together and in a timely manner. This monumental partnering effort, and the high degree of dedication and commitment by all parties, allowed this phase to be closed out with no outstanding claims or disputes. Furthermore, the blasting was finished well ahead of schedule and within the in-water work period. This successful endeavor is an excellent example of a highly successful partnering relationship between our respective organizations and our customers. Safety on this project was excellent. Through a collaborative effort, including joint pre-work safety inspections, all equipment arrived on site and ready to commence operations the first day of the in-water work period. On a daily basis safety was given high priority as evidenced by your clean, orderly and organized operations. During the course of your project you experienced ice, fog, high debris flows, and high currents. Your crews worked around the clock in a very constricted work area, in close proximity to operating equipment, and finished the project with no lost time accidents. This is a true credit to the commitment to safety by J.E. McAmis, Inc and CDB at all levels of your organizations and a successful partnership with our construction personnel to insure a safe worksite. The completion of the blasting phase of the Channel Improvements Project is a culmination of years of effort. Your successful completion of this phase of your contract will facilitate the overall completion of the deepening phase of the Columbia River Channel Improvements Project this year with immediate benefits to the local, regional and national economies. Thank you again for a tremendous effort and a highly successful partnership in completion of the rock blasting at St. Helens. BUILDING STRONG!
