5. Emergency Exercises & Hide Tide alerts for monsoon

High Tide Alerts for Monsoon

One of the major aggravating factors for Mumbai Mega flood in 2005 was prevailing High tide

condition (4.48m at 15:50) during heavy rainfall. High tide condition led to inrush of seawater

into drainage system, thus rain was getting accumilating on roads. The monsoon alerts for high

tides for this year, issued by BMC are:

13-07-2014 at 12:58 Hrs 4.83 M High tide

14-07-2014 at 15:44 Hrs 4.95 M High tide

15-07-2014 at 14:28 Hrs 4.95 M High tide

16-07-2014 at 15:13 Hrs 4.83 M High tide

11-08-2014 at 12:35 Hrs 4.87 M High tide

12-08-2014 at 13:19 Hrs 4.97 M High tide

13-08-2014 at 14:01 Hrs 4.92 M High tide

10-09-2014 at 12:52 Hrs 4.84 M High tide

People driving should be careful as flooding & traffic jams may occur around the time of high

tides. More safety tips are shared in forthcoming Enerji Talk.

11. Tata Power Strategic Intent 2022

Tata Power Strategic Intent 2022 Dear Colleagues,

As you know, Tata Power periodically revisits its archetype and strategic intent as part of its

strategy development process. The process involves scanning the market, taking stock of the

resources at our disposal, benchmarking ourselves with peers in the Indian and International

power sector and also aligning our aspirations with the Tata Group. Inputs from across the

organization are factored as the aspiration is decided. The options generated are then

discussed with the Chairman and Board of Directors and their inputs are used to refine the

strategy.

This year, the Archetype and Strategic Intent along with various options for growth and

consolidation were discussed with the Board of Directors during two Strategy focussed Board

meetings (on 3rd Dec ’13 and 7th May ‘14). After due deliberations, the Tata Power Strategic

Intent 2022 has been decided as follows:

18,000 MW of generation capacity commissioned

20-25% generation portfolio from non-GHG sources

4000 MW of Distribution including DDG

25 MTPA of fuel resources

10-X growth in value added businesses i.e. business with no/ low capital

investment (e.g. trading, PMSA & OMSA services, ash handling, solar

components and EPC, Defence & Civilian System Engineering solutions)

The key factors that have driven this strategic intent is the philosophy that Tata Power will

remain a relevant and significant player in India and the chosen international geographies. The

aspiration also factors in the challenges – both internal such as funding constraints as well as

external such as challenges being faced in the power sector (e.g. fuel, delays in environment

clearance, land acquisition, etc). We will be keeping a close watch on the opportunities as the

new government takes over and the aspiration will be reviewed periodically (in 1-2 years), as

the ground conditions are likely to change with the new government.

As always, the key to the success of our organizational goals lies in our collective ownership

and a focussed approach in achieving our objectives. By June 25th 2014, we should aim to re-

work our long term strategies especially the Domestic & International Business Development

and Value Added Businesses teams to be in alignment with the revised strategic intent. While

doing the above, involvement of the functions (e.g. Human Resources) will be critical to ensure

that the strategies identify and plan for building and strengthening of capabilities/ competencies

needed to achieve the intent.

In this journey, what will differentiate us from other competitors is our strengths. Tata Power has

always been a pioneer in the sector with a series of firsts to its credit (e.g. the first 500 MW unit

in India, the first 800 MW sized supercritical unit and many others). This has mainly been

possible due to our ability to adopt and work with new technologies. During the Annual Strategy

Workshop, our Group Chairman also emphasized the importance of technological capability in a

fast evolving market. Therefore, we have modified our Mission statement to reaffirm our

commitment to becoming lead adopters of technology. A short presentation is attached which

gives the highlights of the vision, mission and the new strategic intent as well as the strategic

imperatives that we will drive across the organization. The vision has also been parameterized

and the same is included in the presentation.

I look forward to the continuation of the unstinted support and contribution of all my colleagues

in making this Intent a reality.

Best Regards, Anil Sardana
