Encourage research that impacts science, industry and/or society. Projects will combine multiple domains of experience and innovative computational approaches.  The total RFP amount available is $1,000,000. Microsoft Research anticipates making between ten and twelve awards.

The award honors the memory, legacy and accomplishments of the late A. Richard Newton, former dean of the College of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley.
