With the wind in our sails we’ll travel through plentiful seas that will provide us with seafood delights troughout our trip. SailNorway offers thematic sailing adventures that enable you to explore nature and discover coastal culture along the coast of Helgeland. Here the coastal people have long been living in harmony with nature; for centuries they have they have sustainably managed fish, bird and other animals using local culture and knowledge. In 2004 the Vega Islands were granted UNESCO status as a World Heritage Area. The skerry coastline and deep fjords are what make this area especially unique, and it is this nature and culture heritage that we want to show you. We will do this in a way that, to the greatest possible extent, allows this heritage to be preserved for future generations. Environment The climate is warming up, the ice caps are melting, oceans are rising and ecosystems are seriously under threat. SailNorway’s trips are managed to minimize pollution and we focus on the environment at all levels. We strive to understand more about the interaction between nature and culture, and the delicate ecological balances in the areas in which we operate. In joint cooperation with you, we include different enriching activities relating to nature and culture in the tour programme.

Helgeland; an ocean of opportunities.On our Nature- and culture explorations it’s not all about seeing as much as possible in the shortes about of time, we literally sail with the wind and go with the flow. Sailing is calming and brings you close to nature. The cultural encounters are bound to inspire new impulses and perspectives. The gastronomic delights are simple but comprise the freshest, helthiest ingredients.

Coastal sailing in Vikna and Gjæaslingan; the area widely depicted in the writings of Olav Duun. The Norveg museum in Rørvik. Hiking up Torghatten mountain. Traditional “færing”boat sailing on the Blue-Sky island of Ylvingen. Gourmet experiences at Hildurs Herbery. Excellent seafood at Vega Ocean Hotel. Hiking on the island of Søla.
