Join our Parish Family! Are you a registered parishioner?

Do not take for granted that you are registered in the Parish just because you

attend Mass or your relatives are members. It could be quite embarrassing to us, you and your family when someone

wants to make wedding plans, have a baby baptized, attend Faith Formation, or

if you are asked to be a Sponsor for Baptism or confirmation requiring a note of Catholicity from us. If we have no record of membership, we cannot provide these services for you. Contact us today! Call

Fruitful Harvest The Fruitful Harvest campaign began in October. In addition to the $83,080.00 that is our share of the Diocesan campaign goal, we are asking for a further $70,606.00 in support of our dovetail projects for 2017: (1) the regrading and resurfacing of our parking lot so that rainwater runoff no longer flows into the school, and (2) replacing the stalls in the school bathrooms and installing a handicapped stall in each. Thus far, $95,655.00 has been pledged. In the past, much of the funding for our renovation projects has come from contributions made through Fruitful Harvest and returned to the Parish. Please prayerfully consider your support of the Fruitful Harvest campaign and, through it, your support of St. A. If you have yet to make your pledge, please contact the church office at 219-866-5351. Thank you in advance. FD

Statue Restoration The Pieta statue has been restored to its original beauty

due to a generous donation from an anonymous parishioner. Thank you!

Father, The image of the Virgin is found in your Church. Mary had a faith that your Spirit prepared and a love that never knew sin, for you kept her sinless from the first moment of her conception. Trace in our actions the lines of her love, in our hearts her readiness of faith. Prepare once again a world for your Son who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. ~from Catholic Household Blessings and Prayers

A Note for the Parish This Spring Break, I will travel to Cuba with other Purdue students on a mission trip. We will be participating in a week-long mission through service immersion that has been organized through St. Thomas Aquinas Church here at Purdue. While in Cuba, we will spend our days trying to help the people restore their faith This is holy work and I feel truly blessed to be part of this important mission, We do this work as people called on a mission to serve the family of Christ. We will spend the rest of our time immersing ourselves in the culture of these people who are striving to reclaim their faith. We look forward to carrying the spirit of St. Tom’s, our home-away-from-home at Purdue, to the communities we will be serving. The cost for the trip is approximately $1200 and that included food, our room and expenses for the week like transportation and translators, and air travel. St. Tom’s will be subsidizing the trips, so that all of us who would like to serve can have this experience. I write to ask for your prayers first—and for your help and support. I am responsible to cover part of the cost. I hope you are able to support me. The trip is more than a service retreat; it acts as a spiritual and educational experience where we learn to be the face of Christ. From all that I’ve heard from other students, these are life-changing experiences. Your prayers are greatly appreciated and any financial donation you make will be fully tax deductible. Please make any checks out to St. Thomas Aquinas and put my name in the memo. Thank you very much for all the ways you support me in my college career. God bless, Savannah Steinke ***Donations can be dropped in the weekend collection or the church office. Please label them clearly.

Second Collection for the Retirement Fund for Religious Next Weekend

Your donation works for aging religious. “I read that roughly 95 percent of donations to the Retirement Fund for Religious aid senior religious,” a donor

writes. “That’s wonderful when we truly want our donations to

work.” Your gift works for elderly religious by helping to furnish medications, nursing

care, and more. Please support next week’s collection

for the Retirement Fund for Religious, and give to those who have given a lifetime.

We Need Volunteers for Care Ministry! We are in need of Care Ministers to take

communion to Hospital & Alternacare, and also to Care Center. We can work around your schedule. Only available once or twice a

month? We would still appreciate your help. It is not difficult and does not require a lot of time,

usually less than an hour, depending on how long one likes to visit with patients. Interested individuals should contact the rectory (866

-5351). Won’t you consider giving some time to serve Christ by serving those that are unable to attend Mass?

1/30, 2/13, 2/27, 3/13, & 4/3. Each session will be unique and independent. Therefore, participants can work around their busy

help to grow individually and as a faith community. Our first speaker on January 16th will be former parishioner, Reverend Rick Nagel! There will be no cost to attend the programming and

Backpack Program For the past two school years, the Rensselaer Area Ministerial Association (RAMA) has partnered with Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. for the greater Rensselaer Community. “What We Do– The BackPack Program is designed to meet the needs of hungry children at times when other resources are not available, especially on weekends. By providing

nutritious, kid-friendly food on Friday during the school year, our BackPack Program makes sure there’s food on the table when kids are home over the weekend. Qualified elementary school students are selected by teachers and administrators and sent home every Friday with a canvas bag filled with food. Packing partners fill the bags each week. Bags are discreetly distributed to children on the last day before a weekend or holiday break.” The BackPack Program purchases food from Food Finders Food Bank, Inc. In Lafayette, IN. The Rensselaer program has received grants and private donations to help fund this program. Volunteers from St. Augustine Parish have packed bags once per month. The 3rd Thursday of the month is our designated week to pack. If interested in assisting our parish group in being a packing partner, please call Dianne Hollerman at 866-0037 or Pama Schreeg at 866-4388 for more information.

A Note from Your Parish Nurse: Preventing and Managing Stress

Eat healthy-Give your body plenty of energy by eating healthy foods including vegetables, fruits, and lean protein.

Drink alcohol only in moderation-Avoid using alcohol or other drugs to manage your stress.

Talk to friends and family.

Get help if you need it. Managing your stress can help you sleep better, control your

weight, get sick less often, have less neck and back pain, be in a better mood, and get along better with family and friends. If you have any questions or need to talk, please contact your Parish
