Love Keeps Us Going

If lately I’ve seemed a bit stressed, or cranky even, I

apologize. Please don’t take it personally. I have found myself a little overwhelmed in the past couple months. I am currently

revising my thesis paper, the final draft of which is due March 3. I’m still learning and relearning what it means to be part of an

elementary school, and my family has found itself involved in many things. Have no pity. All is well, it is just that things sometimes all seem to happen at the same time. I know, we’ve all been there. However, I have to admit that my mind is having a difficult time

writing something I feel is meaningful for this column. One of the most beautiful things about our Catholic liturgy is that it offers us time out of time. We take a step into God’s time when we are fully present in the liturgy. We show up and we rest in the Holy Spirit. We don’t have to find the words because they are available

to us, we know them, they have formed us, and we just pray together. Even when I am frustrated, feeling low, or feel like

staying home, the liturgy speaks to me. When I witness the body of Christ coming to be renewed by the Body of Christ, I am inspired; I

am humbled. How could any of us do it alone? It is too big a mystery to try to make sense of it all. Together we begin to

understand. Together we grow in wisdom. These readings today challenge us to be faithful to God’s

commands. What we don’t read today is what we already know. Jesus, who is the personification of the law, will reduce all the

commands to two. In fact, there were always only two, and the rest are commentary. Love God. Love one another. We learn to

love in community. Knowing we are loved and practicing love, we can make it through anything. The Holy Spirit is our guide. May we

pledge ourselves to deeper and fuller love, and may we always watch out for one another. Knowing we are all here together keeps

me going through these gloomy winter days.

Second Collection Our Second Collection is to Support the Church in Central and

Eastern Europe.

Around the world, women who face unplanned pregnancies or who have experienced abortion or miscarriage suffer psychological

stress. They need material and emotional support to help them heal. This reality is especially true in Eastern Europe, where for decades, the Soviet system proposed abortion as a form of birth

control. Today in this developing region of the world, many pregnant women face difficult financial situations and are

abandoned by partners and family members, and confront other hardships that compound their circumstances. Help the Lithuanian

mothers and children by supporting this collection.

No Coffee and Rolls on March 1st.

Please support the Washington D.C.

breakfast at the K. of C.
