And on request
I lift up my eyes toward the mountains; whence shall help come to me? My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.—Psalm 121:1—2
TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — As long as Moses’ hands were kept uplifted, Joshua and his men had the better part of the battle with Amalek (Exodus 17:8-13). Psalm — Our help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth (Psalm 121).
Second Reading — Remain faithful; proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or not (2 Timothy 3:14 — 4:2).
Gospel — God will secure the rights of the chosen who call out day and night (Luke 18:1-8).

PERSISTENCE As the end of the liturgical calendar draws near the liturgy focuses more and more on the end of time. This week we are reminded that God’s ultimate victory may be a long way off. Perseverance in prayer, proclamation, and work will be needed along the way. The characters in today’s readings can serve as role models for us on the long journey of discipleship. In the reading from Exodus Joshua does not give up fighting, Moses does not give up praying, and Aaron and Hur do not give up supporting him until the victory is won. In the Gospel story the widow does not stop begging until justice is done. As the letter to Timothy urges, we are to “be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient” until the coming of “Christ Jesus, who will judge the living and the dead” (2 Timothy 4:2, 1). © Copyright, J. St. Benedict School News…
Building leadership at Saint Benedict Catholic School is exceedingly important. Due to organizations such as Peer Helpers, Student Government, Performance Choir and Mass Choir, students are asked to step up and take a leadership role. But it is even more important when students are learning to lead others in worship and prayer. Each week students in grades 3-8 are asked to conduct the various parts of Mass. In addition, they act as Alter Servers and Choir Members. This past week, because of the celebration of the Memorial of Our Lady of the Rosary, students from grades 4-8 lead the rest of the student body in a Rosary. This reverent ceremony was a testament to how Catholic School participation builds character. Please support us in building children of faith and rectitude by buying your ticket for the Annual Draw Down!!

Cross Catholic Outreach - Box of Joy Project
This year, we are asking parishioners to bring in items to fill the boxes and $9 to cover shipping of each box. There will be a large box in the back of church for donated items, and a jar for monetary donations to cover shipping of the boxes. See the included flyer on acceptable items to donate. On Sunday, November 6th, at 9am in the parish hall, the religious education students, youth group, and parishioners will assemble the boxes together! Plan to donate, join us for the assembly of the boxes, and spread joy to children! The deadline for donations is October 30th.
