FROM THE RECTOR’S DESK NOVEMBER 2019

Dear Friends, November 14, 1954

Sixty five years ago this month, on a sunny, fall Sunday morning at 11 am, this

congregation of Episcopalians - women dressed in hats and gloves, and men in suits

and ties - gathered for worship for the first time on Siesta Key as the faithful community

of St. Boniface Church. Attendance that day was 66, including children.

Sunday, November 17, 2019 St. Boniface Church will gather at 10:00 am and

give our weekly praise and thanksgiving to God using the same prayers (1928 Book of

Common Prayer) and hymns (Hymnal 1940) as our founders did on that first Sunday in

1954. But rather than meet in the storefront at Stickney Point and Midnight Pass

Roads, we will gather in our beautiful, light-filled Nave. That holy space which we enjoy

today was built to the Glory of God and made possible by the dreams and gifts of those

first members.

Then our anniversary celebration will continue after worship when we will all move to

the Courtyard and enjoy our annual BABOOS (Boniface and a Bunch of Other Saints)

brunch and raffle. It’s going to be a great day and I look forward to celebrating with you.

November is also the month for our Annual Appeal. My thanks to Suzanne and Bob

Gregory, and their committee, for all the ways in which they will guide us in growing our

understanding and seeing our financial gifts as an essential, joyful part of each family’s

praise and thanksgiving to God.

Two big Sundays bookend November every year; All Saints (November 3) and

Christ the King (November 24). Add our 65th Celebration Sunday (November 17) to

this list and, what a month! November’s worship will be glorious. You won’t want to

miss a single week.

God bless you, Wayne+

On All Saints Sunday, pledge packets

will be available - pick yours up outside

the church doors! This will be your

chance to show how God’s abundance will flow through you, to ensure

Christ’s light shines brightly through St. Boniface into the world.

This fall a variety of Shining our Light events have provided opportunities to grow

in relationship to Christ and to experience God’s abundance. During our Day of

Gratitude, Grace and Generosity, we explored the unique and special nature of

St. Boniface. At our Celebration Meals we shared the many ways we experience

the light of Christ. And, in their lay witness stories, fellow pew-mates told how

they will choose to use their gifts in 2020 to keep that light shining.

ALL SAINTS SUNDAY November 3 The 10:00 a.m. service will be a chanted choral

Eucharist with incense, the 8:00 a.m. Eucharist will be spoken without incense.

BEST GREEN TIP from The Little Book of LIVING GREEN: 30% of water consumed in the home is flushed down the toilet. You can reduce the amount of water used in each flush by putting a "toilet dam" in your tank. You can pick this up at your local hardware store. These displacement devices are very simple to install or remove, and save 1 to 2 gallons per flush. OR, you simply put a water-filled plastic bottle in the tank, which will also decrease the amount of water used in each flush. Of course, this is easily removable if you need to do so.

CENTER FOR SPIRITUAL TRANSFORMATION Simple Spirituality: For this food we give thanks

This month as the emphasis is on the traditional Thanksgiving feast, it is important to remember that not everyone shares in the bounty that we enjoy. God cares about our every need, including food. Manna was provided in the desert, and loaves and fishes fed five thousand. What is known as grace before meals, does not have to be formal or elaborate, but it does have to be intentional. Giving thanks for: “the food we are about to eat” at every

meal, is a way of giving praise to the Giver of all Gifts, who provides for all our hungers. For more information on this and other spiritual pathways, contact Center for Spiritual Transformation (941) 349-5616 x 311

POINSETTIA SALE Get a head start on your festive plants for the holidays! All this month, order forms will be available in the church entrance, Parish Hall and Church Office. The plants will be available for pick-up at the St. Nicholas Fair on Saturday, December 7 and at Coffee Hour on Sunday, December 8.

HAVE YOU MET A STAR? It’s easy to do! Just look for the name tags with blue stars on them. These

special name tags let us know the person wearing it is a visitor or newcomer. So, watch for the stars and

give them an especially warm St. Boniface welcome!

THE HEALING MISSION

will resume its regular seasonal hours in November, open Tuesdays 10:00 am -12 noon, Wednesdays 2:00 - 4:00 pm and Fridays 10:00 am -12 noon. To schedule an appointment, please call 941-349-5616 x 335.

WELCOME BACK! A warm welcome to all our seasonal and

year-round friends who have been away over the summer

months! We’ve been planning an active fall and early winter at

St. Boniface, with many music offerings, new ministries, plenty of

fellowship gatherings and some interesting adult ed programs.

So, be sure to let the church office know of your address change.

Then, watch your mailbox and in-box to stay in the know.

A HAIL and a FAREWELL Take a stroll around the St. Boniface campus, and you’ll discover many donated works of art, including an original Corbino, a Chagall with a history, busts and other sculptures, traditional and modern icons. Each piece of art we received has been researched and appraised. No small feat! But, thanks to the efforts of parishioner Ann Albritton, we have a complete catalog listing each piece. Until late this summer, Ann served as our curator. Also in this role, Ann suggested appropriate places and liturgical seasons for displaying each piece. A labor of love to which she brought her considerable background as an art historian, critic, professor, lecturer and curator. Ann taught at the Ringling College of Art and Design for many years, and recently retired to Thomasville, GA, to be closer to family and to create time for other pursuits. She has passed the reigns of curator to Zerbe Sodervick. Zerbe’s background is equally inspiring. While she’s newly retired from the Rochester Institute of Technology, she continues to create out of her studio in the Rosemary District – where she recently hosted the St. Boniface Watercolor Group. New to the curator role, she plans to continue Ann’s efforts with a few new strokes of her own. Watch for the Creative Spirituality event planned for later this winter! We give thanks to God for Ann’s and Zerbe’s gifts of time, talent and passion to St. Boniface.

THE ST. BONIFACE DREAM GROUP As our Biblical forebears did, we study our dreams to see how they can help us grow spiritually and personally. Our dream work is based on Jungian Dream interpretation which is focused on the symbolic content of dreams and their compensatory role in the self-regulation of the psyche." Dreams reveal aspects of ourselves that are not normally conscious, therefore disclosing unconscious motivations in our lives and relationships and may show different points of view in conflict situations. We learn a great deal from our dreams and through our discussions of others’ dreams in our group. We have openings for new members, if interested in finding out more about this group, please call Candace Boyd at 312-9062.

FOYERS 2019-2020 Ready to have fun and meet other members of St. Boniface? Attend our Kick-Off Event on Friday, November 15th, 6 – 7:30 pm in the Parish Hall and meet your FOYERS group. Bring an hors d’oeuvre or a dessert to share and we’ll provide the libations. Foyers is small groups of parishioners who get acquainted over a meal in each other’s homes (or restaurant.) Sign up at coffee hour by November 4th!!! For info or to RSVP please call Linda Pendray (228-3417), Bev Parker (349-8789), Connie Mereness (346-1844), Holley Schroeder (966-1466) or Peg Davant (924-9895).

LET’S MAKE THE INAUGURAL ST. NICHOLAS FAIR

A HUGE SUCCESS!

How can you contribute to the success of the St. Nicholas Fair?

Sign-up sheets are posted in the Parish Hall. Helpers are needed to

bake cookies, staff tables, provide directions to guests, circulate

among visitors, lead children’s activities, and so much more. The fair

needs your “second debut” jewelry, handbags, and books. Look for

the collection box in the Parish Hall and drop them off!

St. Nicholas is a generous and beloved figure among children the

world over. The fair, in his spirit, will celebrate children and the spirit

of giving. All profits from the fair will go to Brothers and Sisters

Doing the Right Thing, a local service serving middle school children

in North Sarasota. Spread the word among your friends—flyers are

available for you to post in your favorite places. Questions? Call Ann
