TRUST

Keys hold great significance for those who carry them. They represent the trust and authority of the owner when given to another person. We may give our house key to a trusted friend to take care of our ma ers while we are away. We may give keys to someone responsible for main-taining or working in a par cular building. Keys to vehicles are given to people who have proven themselves responsi-ble drivers. The readings today focus on this kind of trust—the trust that conveys authority and responsibility. In the first reading, the symbol is specifically that of a key; but the second reading and the Gospel also speak of trust and lead-ership as they refer to the earthly church that Jesus estab-lished. Reflec ons with the Word of God from the priests of St. Cecilia Parish August 23 – 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Read Isaiah 22:19-23, Romans 11:33-36 and Ma hew 16:13-20 The Lord dismissed Shebna, master of the palace, and gave the posi on of authority to Eliakim. Shebna’s name in Hebrew means growth, youthfulness, freshness, tenderness, strength, and completeness. As master and ruler, he received the thoughts of God’s essence and conveyed the Truth as his name implied with ener-ge c love and hope. However, he fell in love with his posi on, took advantage of the people and rewarded himself with royal perks. He even constructed an elaborate tomb for himself.

God then calls Eliakim whose name means whom God sets up and establishes, and he is to follow God’s guidance to conquer selfishness and reestablish a people in love and Truth.

The Truth of God is never something we invent or change to benefit ourselves like Shebna did. If we do it is a lie, rather, truth is something we discover, like love. One form of truth is specula ve, and it makes no de-mands, like learning the name of a city. God’s Truth is prac cal such as purity, jus ce, prudence, and charity and yet, these truths are not so easy for acceptance as they demand a revolu on in our thinking and in our behavior. The name Simon in Hebrew means hearing, hearkening, obeying, and understanding. “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” is truly a response of one who in his imperfec ons desires to be transformed in God’s Truth. Jesus names him Peter – rock – a founda on for His Church to be lovingly and truthfully nur-tured here and to con nue forever in heaven. Shebna and Peter offer us two responses to the Lord. At the end of our lives what will our history reveal: a tomb built to ourselves; or a temple for the life of Christ in the Holy Spirit? Remain blessed!

Reflexiones de la Palabra de Dios por los Padres de la Iglesia Santa Cecilia Agosto 23 – Domingo 21 del Tiempo Ordinario

Lee Isaías 22:19-23, Romanos 11:33-36 y Mateo 16:13-20 El Señor despidió a Sobná, amo del palacio, y dio el cargo de autoridad a Eliacin. El nombre de Sobná en he-breo significa crecimiento, juventud, frescura, ternura, fuerza e integridad. Como maestro y gobernante, recibió los pensamientos de la esencia de Dios y transmi ó la Verdad como su nombre implicaba con amor y esperanza enérgicos. Sin embargo, se enamoró de su posición, se aprovechó de la gente y se recompensó con ventajas reales. Incluso construyó una tumba elaborada para sí mismo. Dios entonces llama a Eliacin cuyo nombre significa a quién Dios establece y establece, y debe seguir la guía de Dios para vencer el egoísmo y restablecer a un pueblo en amor y Verdad.

La Verdad de Dios nunca es algo que inventamos o cambiamos para beneficiarnos como lo hizo Sobná. Si lo hacemos es una men ra, más bien, la verdad es algo que descubrimos, como el amor. Una forma de verdad es especula va y no exige, como aprender el nombre de una ciudad. La Verdad de Dios es prác ca como la pureza, la jus cia, la prudencia y la caridad y, sin embargo, estas verdades no son tan fáciles de aceptar, ya que exigen una revolución en nuestro pensamiento y en nuestro comportamiento.

El nombre Simón en hebreo significa escuchar, escuchar, obedecer y comprender. "Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente" es verdaderamente una respuesta de quien en sus imperfecciones desea ser transforma-do en la Verdad de Dios. Jesús lo nombra Pedro – roca – un fundamento para que Su Iglesia sea nutrida amorosa y sinceramente aquí y con núe para siempre en el cielo. Sobná y Pedro ofrecen dos respuestas al Señor. Al final de nuestra vida, lo que revelará nuestra historia: una tumba construida para nosotros mis-mos; o un templo para la vida de Cristo en el Espíritu Santo? ¡Permanezcan bendecidos!

Sacrament of Marriage The Pastoral Guidelines for Marriage Prepara-tion are that a minimum of 7 months be set aside for personal preparation for marriage. Couples should refrain from setting a firm date until after they have called the office to discuss marriage plans. Weddings are celebrated Saturdays at 2pm.

Quinceañeras Celebraciones son Sábados. Las quinceañeras tienen que haber recibido los sacramentos (por lo menos 1ra Comunión). Comuníquese con la ofi-cina para hacer una cita por lo menos 4 meses antes de la celebración. Para reservar la fecha de la Quinceañera la donación es de $350 y se debe traer el día de la cita.
