Twenty-third Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 8, 2019

Fill us at daybreak with your kindness, that we may shout for joy and gladness all our days.

Saint Charles Parish San Diego / Imperial Beach Page Two

Daily Prayer For Priests O Jesus, I pray for your faithful and fervent priests; For your unfaithful and tepid priests; For your priests laboring at home or abroad in distant mission fields. For your tempted priests; For your lonely and desolate priests; For your young priests; For your dying priests; For the souls of your priests in Purgatory. But above all, I recommend to you the priests dearest to me: The priest who baptized me; The priests who absolved me from my sins; The priests at whose Masses I assisted and who gave me Your Body and Blood in Holy Communion; The priests who taught and instructed me; All the priests to whom I am indebted in any other way (especially_________). O Jesus, keep them all close to your heart, And bless them abundantly in time and in Eternity. Amen By St. Therese of Lisieux

Our Mission St. Charles is a Christ focused, diverse, family centered, Catholic community serving Imperial Beach and the South Bay. We believe in the real presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist and His saving grace received through the Sacraments. We believe in the Holy Catholic Church instituted by Jesus, the sanctity of life, the value of family, and lifelong Catholic education for all ages. We live to deepen our love of God, spread His Gospel and bring others to Christ. We are committed to a life of prayer, sacrifice, and service to those in need. With love, humility, and joyful obedience, we strive to be transformed and guided by the Holy Spirit until we are transformed in the eternal life of Heaven.

POST-SUMMER CHALLENGES

With any luck, summer delights will continue a while past last week-end’s Labor Day: refreshing recreation (with maybe an occasional swim) or enjoyable relaxation on the deck (with tasty outdoor grilling). Truth is, for some of us, this year’s Labor Day came way too early. With many schools back in session for a while already, mealtimes and driving schedules needed readjustment to coordinate youth sports with adult commitments. Some reli-gious education and parish programs resumed, too. No surprise, then, that this weekend’s scriptures sound a little like post-summer challenges. For in-stance, Wisdom reminds us that believers in God can never be content with “timid deliberations” and “unsure plans.” Paul challenges longtime friend

and follower Philemon to “let the good you do be voluntary.” Jesus instructs “great crowds” traveling with him—including us—on three things necessary for all true disciples to accomplish. On this early autumn week-end, our scriptures describe disciples’ lifelong labors. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

This year, the Church will celebrate Catechet-ical Sunday on September 15, 2019 and will focus on the theme "Stay With Us." Those who the Community has designated to serve as cate-chists and religion teachers will be called forth to be commissioned for their ministry at the 10:00

AM Mass in English and 11:30 AM Mass in Spanish. Catechetical Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to reflect on the role that each person plays, by virtue of Baptism, in handing on the faith and being a witness to the Gospel. Cate-chetical Sunday is an opportunity for all to rededicate them-selves to this mission as a community of faith.

Marriage Enrichment: A Worldwide Marriage Encounter Weekend is an opportunity for a husband and wife to de-velop a more intimate knowledge and acceptance of each other.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
