People of Our Parish

From Our Pastor:We begin another journey through the Season of Lent this Ash Wednesday, March 6, in

our preparation for the Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday! During the 40 days of Lent (we don’t count Sundays in the 40), we pray, fast, give alms (Matthew 6:1-18), and repent as we renew our commitment to turn away from sin and be faithful to the Gospel, to follow Jesus (Mark 1:12-15) Please see this bulletin for our Ash Wednesday and Lenten schedule

The love of God is at the heart of our Lenten journey – His love for us and our love for Him All that we do and say should be directed toward God who is Love Prayer, fasting and abstinence are part of that journey – as these practices help us to grow in our love for God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, and in our love for one another

Remember that Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are the major days for fasting (one regular meal; then two smaller meals that, together, equal one meal; no snacks) for those who are 18 to 60 years old During Lent, Ash Wednesday and all Fridays are days of abstinence, meaning that we do not eat meat on those days for those who are age 14 or over By abstaining from meat on Fridays, we remember that on Good Friday Jesus gave His flesh for the life of the world By eating fish on Fridays, we recall Jesus Christ’s miracle of the loaves and fish, a foreshadowing of the miracle of the Holy Eucharist; and we recall that Jesus told the Apostles, who were fishermen, that He would make them “fishers of men” (Mark 1:17) Remember, too, that the Greek word for fish is Ichthys, which is also an ancient Christian acronym for “Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior” In our Lenten journey, we might also give up something as part of our penitential practice, more closely uniting ourselves with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who Himself suffered for us, giving His flesh, His very life, in order to save us, as He died on the Cross and rose from the dead to conquer sin and death and to give us eternal life in Heaven

This Lent, our Saint Clement Catholic Parish family will have many opportunities to grow in our love for Jesus and His Church and one another, including:

Mass Tuesdays-Saturdays, 8:15am; Saturdays 5pm; Sundays 7:30am, 9:30amThe Sacrament of Reconciliation (confession) Before daily Mass; Tuesdays, 6:30-

7:30pm, March 12, 19, 26 and April 2 and 9; Wednesday, March 27, 7pm (with 4 priests for confessions); Saturdays, 4-4:50pm; Holy Saturday, April 18, 4-5pm

Exposition and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament First Friday, April 5, after Mass until Saturday, 8am

Stations of the Cross Fridays, 5:30pm, March 8, 15, 22, 29 and April 5 and 12May you and your families have a blessed and fruitful Lenten journey in Christ,Fr. William

LENT IS NEAR!The holy Season of Lent is just days away Begin to consider now how your prayer will

be enhanced during Lent How will you fast beyond the minimum requirements? How will you give alms, do acts of charity?

There are many resources on the internet and books that can guide us through Lent Consider these three resources for your Lenten journey Sign up for daily Lenten emails from:

• FORMEDorg at wwwformedorg/promo/lent-registration• Dynamic Catholic at wwwBestLentEvercom • Redeemed Online at wwwredeemedonline/lent/

You can also join an on-line book club at FORMEDorg The book being read is Pope Emeritus Benedict’s, “Jesus of Nazareth: Holy Week.” The first on-line session will be on Monday, March 4 To join, go to FORMEDorg and scroll through the banner at the top of the page until you see the banner inviting you to sign up and take part in the discussion

Other helps along the Lenten journey include the Stations of the Cross which will be prayed each week Consider taking one of the Rice Bowls to use throughout Lent as a means to set aside money for the poor and needy These can be found at the entrance of the church We will have other ideas on how you can help others during Lent (and beyond) in next week’s bulletin

Lent is a beautiful Season, preparing us to celebrate Easter Like baseball players in Spring training, during Lent we go back to practicing the basics of the Christian life: prayer, fasting and almsgiving So let’s get ready for a renewing Lent in the Lord!

FAMILY PROMISE NEWSAs mentioned last week, Hannah Campbell Gustafson, the

director of Family Promise of Grant County, has decided to resign her position, effective March 7, to take a new position as Outreach Director for a church in the Twin Cities For Hannah it’s a wonderful opportunity to work in church ministry, and to be close to her parents and extended family who live there If you would like to send her a card, please send it to our parish address (135 S Washington St) to ensure that she receives it An interim director will begin on March 8 until a new director is hired

ANNUAL CATHOLIC APPEALThis weekend, March 2-3, Father William will lead the in-pew

process for the Annual Catholic Appeal If you have not made a pledge, please consider making the pledge, payable over six months This appeal funds many ministries throughout the diocese and helps many in need through works of mercy Thank you for your support of our parish, the diocese and the work of the Church throughout the world

Lectors & Servers! We need volunteers for the Ash Wednesday Masses at 8:15 AM and 7 PM Please contact Bill Manthe to volunteer!

ADULT EDUCATION OFFERING FOR LENTDuring the Holy Season of Lent, we will be focusing on the

Passion of Jesus, using the newly released study by Dr Edward Sri titled, “No Greater Love: A Biblical Walk Through Christ’s Passion.” In this study and reflection, we will grow in our understanding that the Passion was an act of love, that Jesus endured His Passion to redeem humanity because of His immense love for us This study, with God’s grace, is designed to help us respond to His tremendous love with our own genuine love, gratitude, and joy There will be two opportunities to take part in “No Greater Love”: Wednesdays at 9:00 AM starting on Wednesday, March 13; and Thursdays at 6:15 PM starting on March 14 We will gather in the parish office meeting room, with sessions lasting about an hour and a half Everyone is welcome Please contact Bill Manthe at the parish office if you have any questions IN MEMORIAM

Please remember in your prayers this week two members of our parish who died recently Brad Popp died unexpectedly on February 14 in Colorado and his funeral Mass was offered on February 22 Brad was just 37 years old at the time of his death During Brad’s short life, he touched the lives of so many people, forming lasting bonds of friendship and care One of Brad’s greatest gifts was his generosity in helping others, doing what he could to help in any way Please pray for the repose of his soul, and as you do, also pray for his dear parents Bill and Becky, his siblings Brenda (Martin), Brian and Beth, and all of his family and friends in this difficult time of sorrow and sadness

Please also pray for Clarence “Zippy” Reuter who died unexpectedly on February 22 and whose funeral Mass was held on February 27 Zippy served in Vietnam and was a proud US Army veteran Zippy married Coleen Steele in 1970, and they were blessed with two sons Zippy was very vested in the printing business, either as a co-worker or business owner He enjoyed most of all time spent with his family As we pray for Zippy, may we also pray that God’s consolation and comfort will be with his sons Cory (Bobbie), and Chad (Brenda), Coleen, his grandchildren and great-grandkids, as well as his siblings Robert ( Janet), Rita (Don), Marilyn, Dennis (Glenda), and Delbert (Barb), and all of his family and friends“Eternal rest grant unto Brad and Zippy, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine

upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”

TOGETHER ENCOUNTERING CHRIST (TEC)!There’s still time to attend the TEC retreat happening at St

Clement Parish Friday, March 8 – 10 To register, contact Jeff Davis at davisjs@tdsnet, or at 262-483-7867 Teens (15 years +) and adults TEC is a fabulous opportunity to grow in faith as we begin Lent!
