From Our Pastor:From Our Pastor:The Biblical readings that we hear at Mass this Sunday once again offer us spiritual

guidance: Repent, and believe in the Gospel; turn away from sin and selfishness and turn to the Good News of God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit� For example, in the first read-ing, God chose Jonah to preach repentance to the evildoers in Nineveh ( Jonah 3:1-10)� In the Gospel, Jesus Christ, God the Son, came proclaiming the Good News, and one of His first actions was to call people to repent, to believe in the Gospel, to follow Him and to preach His message of salvation to the whole world (Mark 1:14-20)� Nothing convinces us of the compassion, the love, kindness, and goodness of God, like the witness of the Apostles, humble believers who leave nets, boats, and parents to follow Jesus� To us who beg, “Teach me Your ways, O Lord,” Jesus responds and beckons, “Come after me�” (see also Psalm 25 and 1 Corinthians 7:29-31)�

As we are reminded that we hear God’s Word at every Mass, and as we read the Bible at other times, realizing the tremendous spiritual guidance that God gives us in His Word, have we ever wondered what would happen if we treated our Bible the same way that we treat our cell phones? What if we: carried our Bible around all the time? flipped through it a dozen times or more each day? turned back home to get it if we forgot it? used it to receive “text messages”? treated it like we couldn’t live without it? gave it to our children as a gift? used it when we traveled, as a “global positioning device” (GPS) and in cases of emergency?

By now, you might ask: Where is my Bible? If you don’t have one, please let me know, because I will give you one! Some folks might have an electronic version of the Bible on their cell phones and computer, which is wonderful, but we then have to rely on a battery and charger to read the virtual version (or under current trends, our internet access to the Bible might be eliminated as determined by tech companies, the media and many in our national leadership, as the assaults on our First Amendment rights continue nearly unchecked)� Unlike our phones and other electronic devices, when we have an actual printed Bible to read, it’s always available and there’s nobody controlling what we can read, with no dropped calls or disconnects, which is a good reminder that God is always listening (Matthew 28:20)� Thank you, God the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, for Your Holy Word; help us to cherish Your Word daily and follow You more each day, in Your Church, Word, Sacraments and daily prayer, and have mercy on us, our country and our world. Amen.

GO MAKE DISCIPLES!EVANGELIZATION

The word “evangelization” comes from the Greek evangelion, which means “good news,” or Gospel� So evangelization simply refers to proclaiming the Gospel� Now the Gospel—in the singular—is the Good News that is at the heart of the four Gospels, namely that God, who is infinitely good and powerful, became a human being in order to rescue the human race from Sin, Death, Satan, and Hell, by freely offering up His own life for our salvation, and that He is now calling us to respond to Him in faith� Evangelization is proclaiming that good news of Jesus Christ by our words and by the holiness of our lives�

PRE-EVANGELIZATIONThere are certain things we can do prior to proclaiming the Gospel

(evangelization) in order to help a person be more open and ready to receive it� This can be called the work of pre-evangelization, which is like tilling the soil before planting the seed of the Gospel� Hospitality, service, and works of mercy are great examples of pre-evangelization� Showing those we meet and serve that we genuinely care about them helps create an important bridge of trust that allows our proclamation of the Gospel to be received more fruitfully�

IN MEMORIAMPlease remember in your prayers Jean Krogman and Shirley Win-

kler, two very dear parishioners who died recently� Jean (Marquardt) Krogman was born on June 15, 1928 and she passed into eternal life at the age of 92 on January 12, 2021� Her funeral Mass was offered on January 16� Jean grew up in Mazomanie and later went to UW-Platteville, where she met her future husband, Ernie Krogman� They were married in 1949 and together they raised five children� Jean worked at the Lancaster Community Clinic, and later volunteered as a tutor in our school, the hospital gift shop and the thrift store� She enjoyed cards, but most of all she enjoyed time spent with her family, especially her grandkids and great-grandchildren� She fol-lowed all their endeavors, and cherished each moment� Jean was a beautiful lady of faith, joy and love� As we pray for her, may we also pray for her children John (Angie), Joan (Rick), Jim (Robyn) and Kris (Bob), and all of her family in their sorrow� May Jean now join Ernie, her daughter Patti, and all her loved ones who have gone before her, along with the saints and angels in Heaven’s glory�

Shirley (Turner) Winkler was born on April 22, 1925 in Potosi and she died on January 14, 2021 at the age of 95� Shirley’s funeral Mass was offered on Wednesday, January 20� In her childhood she was raised on a farm, which taught her many life lessons� In 1945 she married Donald “Jiggs” Winkler, and together they farmed the land and raised five children� She, too, enjoyed playing cards, volunteered at our parish, as well as the thrift store and the hospital gift shop� She also enjoyed visiting with friends and family over the phone and especially in person� A beautiful woman of faith, hope and love, staying in touch and spending time with family was Shirley’s delight and devotion� She adored her kids, grandchildren, great-grandkids and all her loved ones� As we pray for Shirley, may we also pray for her children Dave (Sue), Jack, Jane (Ken), Mary (Perry) Jay (Ellen) and all of her family in this time of sadness and sorrow� May Shirley now join Jiggs, her granddaughter Chelsie and all of her family in eternal peace, happiness and joy in Heaven with God� “Eternal rest grant unto Jean and Shirley, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine

upon them. May they rest in peace. May their souls, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
