GOD'S LAWS

God's laws are not intended to burden or tor-ment us. Instead they are guideposts that

point us in the direction of good living. Accordingly, good living requires loving God and loving one an-other. We should not follow God's laws out of fear of what might happen if we don't, but rather view them as a foundation for building relationships and trust with one another and with God. The Shema prayer of Orthodox Jews is based on the reading from Deuteronomy today, "Hear, O Israel." Every morning people recite the prayer as a profession of their love for God and pledge their obedience to God throughout the day. They pass on their love of God to their children, from one generation to the next. (c) J. S. Paluch

St. Frances Cabrini Annual Holiday Food and Toy Drive began October 27th and 28th. This event is sponsored by the SFC Men's Club, Italian Catholic Federation Branch 191, and the SFC Mexican Catholic Organiza-tion. As in years, we will not only provide assistance to those in our Parish and the Cambrian Park area, but also to Christ the King Parish, as well as Star of the Sea Parish. We anticipate providing assistance to over 350 families at both the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holiday Food Box days and we strive to provide each family at both holidays with a turkey or ham and a box of food. The date for our Thanksgiving food distribution is Saturday, November 17th. Christmas food distribution is Sat-urday, December 15th. Our St. Frances Cabrini parish community have always been so generous in both financial support, as well as your donations of food and toys. If you can assist us with your financial support, please make checks out to " St. Frances Cabrini Men's Club", and in the memo section of the check, please note " Holiday Food Drive". Please place your cash or check in an envelope marked “Holiday Food Drive” and place it in the Sunday collection basket or bring the donation directly to the Parish Office. This operation is handled completely by volunteers. With no overhead, every penny of your donation goes directly to those we serve.

We are looking for the following food donations for both holidays: canned soups and stews, pasta, pasta sauce, boxed mashed potato's, bagged potato’s, yams, gravy, stove top stuffing, croutons, baked beans, dry beans, flour, packaged rice, canned tuna, canned salmon, cereal, oatmeal, noodles, spaghetti sauce, tomato sauce, seasoning packs/packet's, peanut butter, jams, jellies, canned cranberry sauce, canned fruit, canned green beans, dry fruit, nuts, trail mix, crackers, bags of candy canes, canned ham, chicken or other meats. Tur-keys and canned hams round out a box of good solid food so the families we serve can look forward to having the ability to cook a nice meal for their families. Please place food donations in the boxes labeled “Holiday Food Drive” in the Vestibule of the Church. We will also accept donations of clothing, and other gently used items. You can bring items the day of the distribution, or contact me or the Parish Office to donate prior to those dates. If you would like to volunteer your Time and Time on either distribution date, we meet in the SFC gym starting at 7:30 am and are usually done by noon. Thank you for your continued support of our annual Food and Toy Drive, and if you have any questions please feel free to contact me, John Dahl 408 -807-5756

The Parish Office will close on Monday,

November 12th, in ob-servance of Veterans Day

(Armistice Day) What is the difference between Memorial Day and Veter-

ans Day? Memorial Day is a day for remembering and honoring military personal who died in service of their country, while Veterans Day is set aside to honor all

those who served honorably in the military, whether in war or peace. There is no apostrophe in Veterans be-

cause it is not a day that “belongs” to veterans rather, it is a day for honoring veterans.

Nov. 5th to Nov. 11th

Altar of Remembrance / Dia de Los Muertos We welcome our parish community to place a pic-ture of their loved ones on the altar in front of Mary Shrine. Pictures can be picked up on November 28th. Please put your name and phone number on the back of your loved one’s photo. The Altar of Re-membrance will stay up until November 29th. All photos after November 29th will be taken to the Par-ish Office for pick up. (We have a small but signifi-cant collection of framed and unframed photos of loved ones from years past and we are hard-pressed to throw these away. Perhaps one of these lovely photos belong to you and we welcome you to stop by the parish office where they are kept.
