My dear friends: What is truth? As we are aware, the Season of Advent is divided in two parts. Part I is the reminder to prepare ourselves as we await the Lords’ return in Glory (Parousia), which will ultimately end the known physical world and to be ready to be judged by Jesus Christ our Messiah. The wait for the second coming of the Lord is at the heart of our faith. This expectant waiting in the 21st Century does not preoccupy the minds of many fol-lowers of Jesus. In the early Christian Community (1st-3rd Century) the faithful were frantically inclined toward the im-minent return of Christ in glory. They were looking for the day as a planetary catastrophe -- earthquake, fires, etc. These natural disasters have nothing to do with waiting for the Par-ousia. God does not want us to perish, but desires all to come to repentance. God never forgets his people and fulfills all His promises. One striking example can be found in Psalm 126, “The Lord has done great things for us.” HE returned the cap-tives of Zion, gave them back their nation, land and fortunes. Instead of focusing on the disastrous part of the Parousia, our second reading from 2 Peter 3:8-14 offers us the following truths: 1) God remains faithful to his promise of a new heav-en and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. 2) The day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night (suddenly). 3) We are to be conducting ourselves in ‘holiness and devotion as we await for the coming of the day of God,’ which is the whole mystery of the Advent Season. God does not want us to perish, but desires all to come to repentance. This week-end, the second week of Advent, John the Baptist, the last and greatest Prophet, conscious of his mission and possessing exemplary humility, is presented to us in the Gospel. He nev-er points attention to himself. He proclaims that “one more powerful than he is to come after me who ranks ahead of me of whom I am not worthy to untie his sandal straps.” This humility is a quality that will draw many to his preaching on the shores of the Jordon River. Would it not be refreshing if all preachers of the Word of God be this humble? The humble preaching of the truth of John the Baptist is call-ing the people to a baptism (a ritual washing) of repentance to be ready to receive the long awaited Messiah (Anointed One.) Many people listened to John and turned away from their sinfulness to accept the long awaited Messiah. When the Messiah enters, John leaves. He did all he could to ready the people to accept the promised manifestation of God. The promise fulfilled is the Messiah, Jesus from Nazareth. It is the Messiah, the Prince of Peace whom God sends, that reveals the truth and opens for us the way to salvation. Are we prepared to hear the truth of the message of the Gospel as we wait for the Messiah to return in glory? Happy Advent, Msgr. Cronin
It’s not about getting what you want, it’s about being thankful for what you have.
Many thanks to the parishioners of St. James, their families, and their friends for the interest and efforts put into making this year’s Thanksgiving food drive in support of Catholic Charities a success. The gifts of food, financial support, and time enabled us to once again provide a very generous amount of complete meals, including cider and “goodies” to families in need. Special thanks to the youth groups and their adult mentors involved from the school, the Scouts, and Family Centered Catechesis, and to the Men of Charity, Catholic Charities, and Stop & Shop. With all the obstacles and restrictions we had to face and overcome this year, it took a great deal of communi-cation, flexibility, and patience on behalf of everyone to make it happen and WE did.

Where do you turn when anxiety, fear and confusion take over your thoughts? For those of us on the Spiritual Journey...take out your SPIRITUAL FIRST AID KIT! St. Paul says in his letter to the Philippians 4:4-7. “Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: re-
joice! Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your request known to God. Then the peace of God that surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.” As always, we invite you to bring a friend. All are welcome! THANK YOU! We wish to thank all of the St. James parish-ioners who participated in our 2020 Catholic Charities Gift Card Drive. This year, we col-lected gift cards instead of requested gifts. Your generosity and kindness were overwhelming! More than 300 gift cards were collected totaling over $12,500! So many children are going to be thrilled this Christmas because of the caring parishioners of St. James. God bless you all!
Our Social Concerns Grocery Store Gift Card Drive benefiting our own parish was very successful! A huge thank you goes out to all who participated. Thank you to Mary Corbet and Arleen Guerin. We couldn’t have done this without you. We wish you all a blessed and peaceful Christ-mas. Be safe. Stay well. Diane Falato and Jo Maffey

BOLD Youth Ministry
2nd Grade Mrs. Elaine Comer and Ms. Jean Feely have been keeping their sec-ond grade students very busy since school opened in September. When school opened, our students en-joyed making new friends and building strong relationships through fun activities. Throughout September and October, the stu-dents practiced their reading and writing skills focused on themes
such as pumpkins, scarecrows and Halloween. They have also been working hard to master addition and subtraction facts while practicing more complex addition and subtraction (double- and triple-digits!). During the month of November, their thoughts focused, in Social Studies, on Pilgrims and voyages while, in Religion, the students gave thanks to God for all the goodness he has bestowed upon us. We also celebrated Saint’s Day, a much-anticipated event which is held in November every year. Each child chooses a saint, reads about them, and delivers an oral report dressed as their saint. It is a holy day for the children, and all involved, and a highlight of their second grade year at Saint James. This year, due to COVID restrictions, our Saint’s Days were held via Zoom so our parents could still see their child(ren)’s presentations. We begin the month of December with all the excitement of the Christmas Season and we wish you all a Happy Thanks-giving and a happy and holy Christmas.

St. James Rosary Altar Society
Welcomes you to pray the Rosary for Peace
Mondays at 3:00 pm in the chapel The Rosary is also prayed after the 8:00 am daily Mass. Those who would like to join in prayer will move to the church after Mass in order to allow for sanitization. All are welcome!
Oppose the New Jersey Reproductive Freedom Act The Catholic Bishops of New Jersey are urging all Catholics and people of good will to fight the proposed initiative entitled the New Jersey Reproductive Freedom Act by contacting their state legislators to vigorously oppose its passage. This most radical bill ever proposed protects abortion up through nine months of gestation, removes conscience protections and al-lows nondoctors to commit abortions as well as eliminate pa-rental notification for minors. It will utilize our tax and insur-ance dollars to do so. Some of the ways the faithful can respond is by contacting their 3 representatives (one senator and two assembly mem-bers) and telling them to oppose S-3030/A4848 The Repro-ductive Freedom Act. To find your state legislator's addresses go to https://njcatholic.org/legislatorsbydiocese. Details about protests planned can be found at the Lifenet website.
