. The Word of the Lord
First Reading: Exodus 24:3-8 Moses explained to the people the commandments he had received from God. Upon hearing them, the entire community immediately agreed they would do as God had told them. Moses then sacrificed young bulls and sprinkled the people with their blood, calling it the blood of the covenant they had made.
Second Reading: Hebrews 9:11-15 Jesus did not offer God the blood of sacrifices, but instead he offered up his own blood to cleanse all people of the transgressions they had committed under the first covenant with God. Christ instead brought a new covenant, which, if kept, would lead to eternal life.
Gospel: Mark 14:12-16, 22-26 Jesus sent two of his disciples to prepare the Passover supper. During the meal he blessed bread and offered it to them saying, “This is my body.” He then offered them wine and called it his blood, “the blood of the covenant, to be poured out on behalf of many.”

SJA ROSARY ALTAR SOCIETY SJA Rosary Altar Society sincerely appreciates the wonderful attendance at our Annual May Crowning Mass. Our First Holy Communicants led a beautiful procession in their Communion attire, and were a positive presence at Mass. We extend our prayers and good wishes to our outstanding Pastor and Moderator “Father Bob”, for all his guidance, and congratulate him on the 46th Anniversary of his Ordination to the Priesthood. On Monday evening, June 4th at 6:30 pm, in the school cafeteria, our newly elected officers will be installed, and our new Rosarians will be inducted. A light supper will be served. We invite ALL Catholic women to become Rosarians, and join Blessed Mother Mary’s army to promote the Rosary and establish a comradery with a delightful group of social & prayerful women. Meetings are on the first Monday of the month at 7 pm, September through December, and start again in March through June, in the school cafeteria.

While they were eating, he tool break, said the blessing, broke it, gave it to them, and said, “Take it; this is my body” Each of our readings today emphasizes the theme of covenant. Moses speaks to the people in our first reading from the Book of Exodus: This is the blood of the covenant that the Lord has made with you in accordance with all these words of his. Blood was a symbol of life. So we see the importance in using blood to seal the covenant – as the covenant with God means life for the Jewish people. Our second reading from the Letter to the Hebrews connects the Jewish feast of the Atonement with the death and resurrection of Jesus. The feast of the Atonement was when the high priest entered the Temple sanctuary for the rite of purification. The high priest would perform this rite every year. Jesus Christ, the high priest by shedding his own blood accomplishes our redemption, “once for all”. When Christ came as high priest…passing through the greater and more perfect tabernacle not made by hands, that is, not belonging to this creation, he entered once for all into the sanctuary, not with the blood of goats and calves but with his own blood, thus obtaining eternal redemption. Jesus’s Last Supper is a Passover meal. The words used by Jesus in instituting the Eucharist, look back- wards at the deliverance of the Israelites from slavery in Exodus and look forwards to His sacrifice on the cross, forming the new covenant. He said to them, “This is my blood of the covenant, which will be shed for many.” At Mass, we are nourished by the Body and Blood of Jesus Christ, so we may: Go in peace, glorifying the Lord by our lives – witnessing to Jesus, by our loving words, actions and thoughts! God bless us all always! Deacon Mike
