Upcoming Meetings and Activities

Enjoy a Dickens of a Christmas on Sunday, December 21, at 7 p.m. in our church. The Missourians, an a cappella group of Christmas

carolers dressed in Dickens-style attire, will be here for a 20 to 30 minute performance, ranging from traditional Christmas carols to pop-

ular and international holiday music. There is no fee for this performance, but a free-will offering will be appreciated.

St. Anne’s Sewing Circle will not be quilting during the Christmas holidays. Quilting will resume On Tuesday, January 6 from 1 to 5

p.m. and on Wednesday, January 7, during the day in the school cafeteria. Come join us for whatever time you can spare.

Christmas Choir Practice: The choir will be singing for the Christmas midnight Mass. Please join us at 7 p.m. for practice on Mon-

day, December 22. Hope to see you on the choir loft!

Save the Date: St. Joseph Parish 4th Annual Cardinal ballgame will be on Wednesday, June 3, 2015.

Picture Directory: Pictures will continue to be taken on December 22 – 23. Pictures are being taken in the

school cafeteria. Please plan on one hour total for check-in, photography and portrait selection. Please try to be there

about 15 minutes before your scheduled time. You will view your images and have the opportunity to purchase addi-

tional portraits. There has been a fantastic turnout to have these pictures taken.

All those who have their picture taken will receive a free 8” x 10” photo and a Parish directory.

Because some families are very busy at this time of year, you may submit a picture of your family for the direc-

tory. These pictures should be of the family from shoulders up. Please submit a picture in an envelope with Sister Cin-

dy’s name on it. You can drop this by the Parish Office or put it in the collection basket by December 28. You may

also send an electronic copy to [email protected]. If you are submitting a picture taken by a profession-

al photographer, a paper does need to be completed and returned to Sr. Cindy. You will find these papers in the back of

Church. This paper can also be downloaded from the parish website. If you are submitting a picture, you may still pur-

chase a Picture Directory for $10.

If there is anyone in the military from the parish, a picture can be submitted and there will be a special place in

the directory. Guidelines for this picture are as listed above.

Collection Counters for December 28: Bill and Mary Kay Schulte, Paul Stratman

A special thank you to the Knights of Columbus Fourth Degree Assembly #28 for their monetary donation

in memory of Irvin Linnenbrink. The monies will be used to re-plate a ciborium in honor of Mr. Linnenbrink’s

service in the Knights of Columbus. May perpetual light shine upon Mr. Linnenbrink. ~ Fr. Mark S. Smith

Church Offerings: Please note that Offertory envelopes for 2014 will be accepted until Sunday, January 4,

2015. The offerings need to be in December envelopes and the check must be dated no later than December

31, 2014. Any 2014 envelopes received after January 4, 2015, will be posted automatically to your 2015 of-

ferings. This will ensure that you receive your end-of-the-year donor substantiation letter in a timely fashion

for your tax purposes.

SCHOOL NEWS

Dear Parishioners,

Our last week of school before Christmas break started off with the students singing for our Christmas program. They sounded

wonderful and Miss Prenger did a fabulous job of directing them. We have very talented students and teachers at St. Joe! This week has

been very busy with everyone getting ready for Christmas and finishing up tests for the end of 2nd quarter. We had parties Friday morning

and the kids were on their way home for 2 weeks by 11:30.

We have a DREAM TEAM! Our first meeting was on Wednesday, December 3, at 10:30 in school. After providing them a list

of what we are wanting done they started to make a plan. We are very grateful to all our volunteers who have signed up. We would like

to add some more storage to the middle school building, especially since we have added archery and the equipment takes up a lot of space.

To build us more storage we will need materials – wood, nails, etc. Once our Dream Team has a better idea of what will be needed then I

will add it to the newsletter. We will gladly take donations of materials or money to purchase the material we need for these projects.

Thank you in advance.

There will not be any school news over the next couple of weeks since we are out of school. I will start up again in January to

keep you all informed. If there is ever anything you would like to know more about please send me an email and I will be glad to include

it in the news. I would like to start showcasing a different class every other week so you can see what is going on in each grade.

We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and New Year! We will see you in 2015!

God Bless,

~ Mrs. Tammy Ogden, Principal ([email protected])

ing, clothes, you name we have a gift card for you!

ing.

All Catholics should have a will. Please remember our parish in yours. Our legal title: St Joseph Catholic Church, Westphalia, and the gift can be dedicated to a particular ministry at the parish (such as the school or cemetery), a particular project (such as the church restoration), or to the parish in general.

As of December 12, we are 85 % to goal! One hundred and ten or 23.4%

of our 470 parish families have donated $16,074 toward our parish's Cath-

olic Stewardship Appeal goal of $18,925. In this Holy Season of Advent,

we thank all those who have generously responded to the annual Catholic

Stewardship Appeal. Our generosity helps address the most pressing pas-

toral, educational and charitable needs of our Local Church. Each of us is

called to respond in faith, knowing and trusting that God recognizes our

willingness to live out the message of the Gospel. Please help us reach

our parish goal!

“Seek the Lord while He may be found” (Isaiah 55:6).

From the Pastor’s Pen

Dear Parishioners,

Merry Christmas – A very merry and blessed Christmas to each of you. I know it is a little

early, but we will not be printing another bulletin before Christmas, so now is the time to offer my

printed blessing and prayer for each of you in a timely fashion. Know that I will recall the blessing that

each of you is whenever I celebrate Mass this Christmas.

Thank you – There is much for which I am thankful and I am truly blessed. Thank you to each

of you that made my Christmas a little more special by sharing something with me. I am humbled by

how generous many of you are. Thank you again and know that I will share some of my good fortune

with the less fortunate and that after sampling some of the goodies you have brought me, that I will

share them with my family, friends, and brother priests and seminarians.

Seminary Collection – Speaking of seminarians, every Christmas gives us the opportunity to

share in the significant expense of educating the seminarians of our diocese. The Seminarian Collec-

tion is actually an assessment upon the parish and not just a free will offering. All the costs associated

with the seminarians, minus donations, are totaled up for the year and then divided amongst the parish-

es according to parish income. Our share is just under $9,000 this year. Please consider assisting in

this cost by placing something in the special envelope. While it is a significant expense for the parish,

without seminarians, we will eventually be without priests and thus no sacraments.

Festivities this Sunday, the 21st – Don’t forget that the church will be decorated after the 9

a.m. Mass, that the rectory will be open with food available through the early afternoon open house

style, and that the Missourians will be singing at 7 p.m. Everyone is welcome at any of these events

and thank you in advance to all of you that helped with these events.

Time, Talent, Treasure forms – Please fill out a parish Time and Talent form and the Parish

Covenant form for this year. Sister Cindy tells me almost 340 families have signed up to have their

picture taken for the parish directory, but only about 110 families have filled out a Covenant form since

the end of October. As you meditate upon your blessings, gifts, abilities, talents, and opportunities,

please consider how you can contribute to the life and assets of your parish family. Forms can be found

on the parish website. Thank you for your consideration and commitment.

Blessings, again – May the remembrance of the birth of our Savior bring you great joy. I pray

that you each may be abundantly blessed and that your celebration of Christmas may in some way lead

you to welcome Christ more deeply into your life.

God bless you and yours!

Fr. Mark Smith

A special thank you to Rehagen Heating and Cooling (Travis & Jake) for their donation of the lettering that

will be used in our Christmas Church decorating. Also, a special thank you to the crew - Lisa Crede and Scott

Mantle for working with the Christmas decorating committee on this project.

A special thank you to our St. Anne’s Sewing Circle for their $3,000 contribution to cover the expenses of

altar breads. Thanks and God Bless ~ Fr. Smith

A special thank you to Legends Bank for their monetary gift of $1,000 as a Christmas gift to our parish.
