Learning and Living Our Catholic Faith"Then there appeared to them tongues as of fire, which parted and came to rest on each one of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different tongues, as the Spirit enabled them to proclaim." (Acts 2:3-4)

My dear Brothers and Sisters, sons and daughters of Holy Church,

Happy Pentecost! Happy Birthday to the Church! Today we recall the birth of the Church in the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on the Apostles and the Blessed Mother in the upper room fifty days after Jesus rose from the dead. The Holy Spirit came upon them and enabled them to proclaim the Gospel to the world. His presence gave them every good gift necessary to share the life and love of Christ with the whole world, even until this very moment as I write, and you now read! God is good! Freeing us from our fears and lifting us up and out of darkness, doubt and despair and equipping us for mission in the world ourselves! God is good! Because of Pentecost and the gift of the Holy Spirit we are able to live through lockdowns, trials and difficulties of all kinds, and are able to keep our eyes, hearts and trust on and in the Lord Jesus!

With great joy in the Holy Spirit we received news Thursday night from our Bishop - a successor of those Apostles gathered in the upper room on that Pentecost Day - that public Masses may resume as early as June 6th and 7th with the Church at 25% capacity for each Mass (Stay tuned for the date in June we actually decide to begin the Masses), and that our third graders will soon be able to be Confirmed and make their First Holy Communion, our eighth graders will be able to be Confirmed and that our RCIA candidates will also be able to receive their Sacraments. Bishop Paprocki, in the midst of these challenging times has granted faculties to pastors to Confirm the candidates in their parishes as well as to give them their First Holy Communion, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ.

Our Prayers have been heard! Thank you Mother Mary, Our Lady of the Rivers! I can't wait to fulfill the promise of leading a pilgrimage there to Portage des Sioux in Thanskgiving when that time comes! Let's keep praying to her for an end to the pandemic. What wonderful news, though, that we'll soon begin Masses each day again in our beautiful Church! And that our children will be receiving the graces of Confirmation and Eucharist! In receiving these they will be fully initiated as followers of Jesus and made fully his disciples - what life is really all about - living in and for Jesus Christ! Please be patient as we determine the best way to safely arrange daily and Sunday Masses and when we begin. Also, please be patient and prepared for some limitation on how we will offer Sunday and daily Masses and the First Communion and Confirmation Masses. Again, the church will only be allowed 25% capacity and there will be other protocols. Thank God we'll be able to have public Mass!

In the midst of all the challenges, I am so grateful for what we have been able to do together here at St Mary's the last few weeks in the distribution of the Holy Eucharist on 4th Street. The assistance of the Knights of Columbus has been invaluable in that, so thank you Brother Knights! The last two Sundays about 500 parishioners were able to receive the Lord in a very beautiful, reverent and efficient way, which has been an inspiration to Deacon Jim, the other priests and me. It's been such a blessing for us all. We wanted so much to shake your hands too, embrace you and chat a little bit....that time will come! Please, please don't hesitate to contact us with any requests.

PENTECOST SUNDAY – SOLEMNITYFocus: We each receive gifts from the Holy Spirit to

share with others, for the greater good.

Today, as we celebrate the birthday of the Church with the coming of the Holy Spirit, we also reflect on the gifts that the Spirit gives to each of us. Let us pray to be able to recognize them, and ask for the grace to use them for the sake of the Kingdom.

The first reading recounts the dramatic coming of the Holy Spirit to the disciples – and their resulting ability to speak in different tongues. In his Letter to the Corinthians, Saint Paul writes that while there are different kinds of spiritual gifts, there is but the same Spirit, and the same God. In the Gospel, Jesus appears to the disciples in a locked room, gives them the Holy Spirit, and grants them the authority to forgive sins.

PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"Man’s Response To God / I Believe – We Believe

“Only One Faith”172. Through the centuries, in so many languages, cultures, peoples and nations, the Church has constantly confessed this one faith, received from the one Lord, transmitted by one Baptism, and grounded in the conviction that all people have only one God and Father.58 St. Irenaeus of Lyons, a witness of this faith, declared:

"Indeed, the Church, though scattered throughout the whole world, even to the ends of the earth, having received the faith from the apostles and their disciples. . . guards [this preaching and faith] with care, as dwelling in but a single house, and similarly believes as if having but one soul and a single heart, and preaches, teaches and hands on this faith with a unanimous voice, as if possessing only one mouth."59

FORMED PICK OF THE WEEKLECTIO: MARY

The Queen Mother

In the Old Testament, throughout the line of Davidic kings, the queen was not the wife of the king, but rather the king’s mother. Jesus rules as king of heaven and earth with his mother, Mary, as the queen mother.

Proofs for the Existence of God—CDToday, it is more important than ever to understand how the voice of science and our ordered universe clearly testify to the existence of an all-powerful God. In this informative talk, Fr. Robert Spitzer – an expert in physics, philosophy, and theology – explains how modern scientific findings and recent medical studies support what is clearly understood through Christian Faith.
