November 18, 2018 marks the second annual World Day of the Poor. Last year, Pope Francis suggested the Catholic Church set aside one day each year when communities can “reflect on how poverty is at the very heart of the Gospel.”…Psalm 34:7, “This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him.” He challenges us to use the World Day of the Poor as an opportunity to make an examination of conscience and consider whether we truly do hear the cry of the poor.

PARISH MEMBERSHIP Registration forms are available in the
vestibules of the church. Please notify the
Rectory if you change your address or move
from the parish. You must be a registered
parishioner for at least 6 months before we
can issue a certificate of eligibility to be a
sponsor or godparent. Please make an
appointment with Monsignor Amey if you
need a Pastoral Recommendation.
BAPTISMS Baptisms are held two Saturdays per month
at 10:00 am and two Sundays per month at
11:30 am, subject to scheduling. Pre-baptism
classes for all new parents will be held
monthly in the Rectory Meeting Room. To
enroll, call the Rectory 4-6 weeks prior to
class. Six months prior parish registration is
required.
MARRIAGES Couples must make arrangements with one
of the parish priests at least six months prior
to the tentative wedding date. At. least one
party must be a member of St. Mary’s Parish.
BULLETIN DEADLINE Items may be emailed, faxed, mailed or
brought to the Rectory office 10 days
prior to the bulletin’s publication date.

Season of Healing-To heal
our community, St. Mary’s Church will
offer prayer services for all victims of
abuse as well as abuse of power and
position as follows:
1.Each Tuesday through
November 27, 2018 at 5:30 pm in Our
Lady’s Chapel for recitation of the
Divine Mercy Chaplet and Benediction.
2. Each Saturday through
November 24, 2018 at 3:30 pm for Ex-
position of the Blessed Sacrament in
the Main Church, Confessions begin at
4 pm, and Benediction followed by 5 pm
Mass.

Bible Study-Bible Study has
moved to Tuesday evenings in the
school library. We are continuing the
study of the Gospel of Matthew. Our
teaching video is from Jeff Cavins of
Ascension Press. All parishioners are
welcome to attend.
Retreat for Survivors-As
we move to the next stage of the Season
of Healing, we recognize that healing
continues for all forms of abuse. The
Archdiocese of Washington (ADW) is
offering a One Day Retreat for Survivors
on Saturday, December 1, 2018 from
8:30 am to 5:30 pm. at a local retreat
center. To protect privacy of those
attending, the location will not be
publicized. There is a brief registration
questionnaire. Once you complete the
questionnaire, ADW staff will
personally contact you to discuss further
details of the day. Visit

The Little Sisters of the
Poor-will be at St. Mary’s after all
Masses this weekend, November 17-18,
in support of their mission in serving the
elderly poor. Please be generous.
St Mark’s Society-The
St. Mark’s Society is a prayer and faith
discussion group who meet regularly in
St. Mary’s school room 44. We invite
anyone who wants to discuss Catholic
doctrine, social events and media issues
to attend. The next Sunday meeting is
today, November 18 at 9 am. For those
who cannot attend on Sunday, we also
meet on Tuesdays from 7-8 pm. For

Mass of Thanksgiving-All

the St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus,

New Minister of
Religious Education-
Msgr. Amey is delighted to announce
officially Mr. Thomas Patchan as the
new Minister of Religious Education
for St. Mary’s! Thomas is a Virginia
Tech Hokie graduate currently living
in Northern Virginia. Thomas has
become passionate about sharing his
Catholic faith by volunteering with a
high school youth group, middle
school CCD classes and through
coordinating the young adult ministry
at his prior parish. His faith and trust in
God and our Church led him to join
St. Mary’s. Thomas is thankful for the
opportunity to share our faith with
St. Mary’s Parish children and all of
you. Please do not hesitate to reach out
and introduce yourself. Thomas is
looking forward to meeting you and

Brother Stephen Talks-
Brother Stephen Ruhl brings St. Mary’s
a new series of talks on Wednesday
nights. In the beginning, God created the
world. He created us. And in the end,
He desires to bring us back to himself.
For this to happen, we have to
understand who we are, where we’ve
come from and our role in God’s plan.
So please join us in this series of talks as
we discuss God and his creation, the
human person and the life of prayer
which brings us back to God.

holiness and He has a plan for each of us to attain it. Following direction in the midst
of our busy lives can be difficult. Please join in a discussion of how we can best

St. Mary’s Small Group– Meets Sundays after the 12:30 pm Mass,
1:45-3:15 pm in the Parish Hall. Join our small group as we study the Sunday

the Church, and at the St. Nick Festival
until December 1. This is an amazing
opportunity for our school and parish to

Thanksgiving Food Collection– Social Concerns would like to say THANK YOU!!
to St. Mary’s parishioners for donating over 50 boxes of canned goods and other
non-perishable foods to the City of Rockville’s Thanksgiving Food Drive last
weekend! Your donated goods will go directly to help over 500 needy families in our
community have a Happy Thanksgiving. Special thanks to St. Mary’s Boy Scouts,
Troop 472 and their families for collecting, sorting and packing the donated items,
and to Msgr. Amey for donating grocery store gift cards on behalf of the parish.
Everyone’s generosity is greatly appreciated! Happy Thanksgiving!
Advent Giving Tree is Coming Soon!!- On the weekend of December 1-2, 2018,
envelopes with gift card requests for 10 local charities will be available. More
information will be provided next week.

Rockville Help to assist families in our local community.
Monthly Blood Pressure Screenings– 2nd Sunday of every month after the

otherwise be thrown away from restaurants/stores and deliver to Nourish Now in

Rainbow Place– Volunteers are needed to serve dinner to women at the

2-Volunteer to collect food in your local
community or assist at the church with
the food collection/distribution.
Last year St. Mary's Parish collected
more than 14,000 cans for over eight
non-profits in the Rockville area.

Advent Day Retreat-
St. Elizabeth of the Trinity, Saturday,
December 1, 9 am to 4 pm at the
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Shrine,
Emmitsburg, MD. This day of
recollection and prayer will be led by
Father Ted Trinko, IVE. Beginning with
Mass at 9 am, the day will include two
conferences, Exposition of the Blessed
Sacrament, pray the rosary and Divine
