Page 2 Solemnity of The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ
Dear Friends in Christ,
This weekend we celebrate the Solemnity of Corpus Christi (Body of Christ). It is the solemn celebration of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ, the expression of our unique Catholic belief that Jesus is truly present in His Body and Blood, and I would add, with His Soul and Divinity, in the Eucharist. In Exodus, the Old Covenant, Moses sprinkled the blood of animals/Passover on the altar and on the people in remembrance of the Covenant. They felt God’s presence symbolically through these gestures. That Old Covenant was fulfilled in the New Testament when Jesus, the real Passover Lamb, offered himself in the Eucharist as a prelude to the sacrifice of the cross (MK 14). He asked us to keep this memorial.
We celebrate this mystery daily in the liturgy with solemn emphasis on Sunday, but this solemnity is a day that is set aside so we contemplate and celebrate in a unique manner what we believe about the Eucharist. Fittingly on the Solemnity of Corpus Christi the Church urges us to demonstrate publicly (in procession), our faith and belief in the Real Presence. As such after the 11:00AM Mass we will have a procession, with the Lord Jesus in the Blessed Eucharist/Sacrament, from the church through our neighborhood, as an outward expression of our faith in the REAL PRESENCE, while praying for our community. This will conclude with Benediction at the gazebo at Veteran’s Park. Our annual parish picnic will then commence.
I pray that this celebration starting with the Eucharist, continuing with the procession and followed with our parish picnic may continue to foster in us a deeper sense of belief in the real presence of Jesus. Amen
As indicated in last weekend’s bulletin, now that we are operating on a summer schedule, the space for this weekly col-umn will be used for brief moments of Church/Faith teachings. This week we begin a series of teachings on Mary, Our Blessed Mother.
In Christ,
Fr. Godwin.
The Blessed Virgin Mary Jesus’ Mother, Our Mother and Mother of the Church
Since the earliest days of the Church, the Blessed Virgin Mary has been honored in glorious works of prose, poetry, art and song. Yet the traditional Catholic devotion to Mary is often a topic of debate inside and outside of the Church. Before we explore and delve into Mary and her role in Salvation History, let’s take a look at Mary the woman.
What does being a woman really mean? What does it take to be a good mother? Mary strikes a nerve in modern society because these questions remain unanswered. If motherhood is devalued, then so is Mary.
To some Catholics, Mary is but a plaster saint, a lovely lady in blue in the heart’s memory before whom rosaries and novenas were prayed many years ago. Others see Mary as an irrelevance, a relic from bygone days in which some say women were degraded and victimized.
Perhaps Mary, too, had concerns and questions. We do not honor the saints because they were too otherworldly to have dilemmas and problems; we honor them because they persevered in love amid all their unanswered questions. It’s so easy to think that Mary floated above the earth in a cloud of ecstasy just because she “was highly favored by God.” But although it is a tenet of our faith that Mary was sinless, she was human. Fears, doubts and questions are part of earthly existence, and Mary certainly shared our human nature with all its perplexity. Amid all the questions about the meaning of her life and the work of her beloved son, she trusted God and did His will. That, ultimately, is why Catholics call her “blessed.”
Being sinless does not mean emotionless and the ordinary and extraordinary circumstances of Mary’s life certainly elicited eve-ry type of emotional response. She experienced overwhelming joy in raising a little boy that she loved with all her heart. As He grew and moved away from her, Mary bid the sad goodbyes that mothers know so well. Watching Him healing the ill, comfort-ing the poor and preaching about God must have filled her with enormous pride. Mary must also have been terrified to watch her beloved son bleed profusely and fight for every breath and die in agony. She also came to understand that death did not have the last word. Seeing Jesus alive again, the Blessed Mother experienced the wonder and profound joy of Resurrection.
By dismissing Mary, we lose a loving Mother and a shining example of ordinary Christian life lived to the fullest. Although she lived a life of extraordinary events, she was simply a wife and mother. She performed the ordinary everyday tasks — making meals and washing clothes. These simple facts are often forgotten in our thoughts and feelings about the Mother of God. What is so appealing about our Blessed Mother is her consistent faithfulness to that common vocation. So,..., who is the Blessed Mother to you?

Vocation Corner: Corpus Christi
The Feast of Corpus Christi is one of the most beautiful celebrations of the Church year. This of course is the case because it is a day in which we honor and worship Christ and the fact that He humbly dwells among us in the sim-plicity of the Eucharistic Host. It is beautiful to be able to have the Faith necessary to believe and live out the Truth that God is pre-sent although hidden behind the appearances of bread. It give meaning to our lives to know that so much can be contained within something so simple and small. So too this same reality resides within us all. Every one of us has been created not simp-ly to be what others see on the outside, but we are created with a mission that is written within our hearts and our souls. The beau-ty of the whole notion of vocations is that our callings are hidden within yet they are truly reality. So too their existence is a result of God’s presence hidden within us. But just like with the Eucha-rist, we need to pray for the Faith to believe and to see what is hidden within. We need to trust that we are better off by believing and living our lives for this truth. The fact of the matter is that every day Christ is present in the Eucharist for us, and everyday God has a plan and a mission for us all. Best yet is that fact that we can pray before Christ present in the Eucharist in order to discover what He’s calling us to within. So rejoice to believe and to follow God’s plan

Parish Information Sacraments Baptism of Infants or children
under 7 years of age: You must be a registered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism. To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism be-fore your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is re-quired for the parents. This is a one session class that is held on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.
Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.
Word of Life
“In 1943, when France was occupied by German Nazis, the search for Jews began. In the face of grave peril, Sis-ter Agnes convinced her mother superior to open their convent and offer refuge to a Jewish family. ...Let us de-vote ourselves anew to following wherever the Lord leads. Let s take courage from their example of faith.”
