From the Diocese

Beware! Do not hanker after honors, Jesus tells us today. Do not be big shots, Jesus says. Do not devour the homes of widows, the belongings of the poor, Jesus says. Let our intentions and actions be rooted in God’s own loving-kindness, God’s mercy.

What is showy in my life that I can tone down? What do I want that others have that I can stop wanting? How can I be generous to the poor?

Bible Study: The Mass with Bishop Robert Barron

Join The Mass Study Program

Our third lesson with Bishop Robert Barron's The Mass, a Word on Fire study program, will be

held on Sunday, Nov. 4, 6:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church, Virden. In this session titled, "God Speaks Our Story," Bishop Barron describes the purpose and beauty of the Liturgy of the Word.

Christ gave us the Mass because he wants to come to us and for us to encounter him. As we grow in our knowledge of

Christ and his Church, we begin to see that Catholicism is purposeful, faithful, intellectually and spiritually reasoned-out, and endlessly inviting. All are welcome to attend! "God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth - in a word, to know himself - so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves." Saint John Paul II

IN LOVING MEMORY OF ALL OUR VETERANS PAST AND

PRESENT

ALWAYS IN OUR HEARTS

SOME MOTHERS BOY

Pat Hare

All alone so far from home. On a lonely battle field, All around him there’s a picture filled with

strife.

Wondering why he’s setting there,

With a rifle in his hands,

Waiting to take another’s life.

The moon up above is a sign of peace and love,

When it’s shining on a country that is free,

But the moon here is red, on this battle field so dread,

For its shining on a place of misery.

Some mother’s boy is lonesome tonight,

Some mothers’ boy is blue,

Some mothers’ boy gave up all of his joy.

To go to Vietnam and fight for you.

Written 1967 when my Uncle Stan went to Vietnam. Thank God he

made it back alright.

But for all the ones who didn’t make it back, my mom wrote this.

Immaculate Conception Obligation) December 26, 27, 28: Regular Weekday Mass Schedule January 2, 3, 4: Regular Weekday Mass Schedule ADORATION OF THE BLESSED SACRAMENT AT SACRED HEART Wednesday, November 21: No Adoration Wednesday, December 19: Adoration as Usual Wednesday, December 26: No Adoration Wednesday, January 2: No Adoration *Special Note: The Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception occurs on Saturday, December 8, 2018. Because the U.S. Bishops have not lifted the obligation for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the two obligations for the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the Second Sunday of Advent, remain. In other words, the faithful must attend Mass twice to fulfill two separate obligations. Aside from canonical requirements, it would be hoped, of course, that Catholics foster a love for the Sacred Liturgy and hold a desire to celebrate the holy days as fully as is reasonably possible.
