Sacred Scripturem identifies the Lord God
with wisdom in several of its passages. Those who are wise hunger for God and come near the Lord to grow and to serve him. The sensible life of those who are wise and grow in the Lord is about always reflecting God’s will. In his letter to the Ephesians, Saint Paul invites us all to be prudent and sensible; this echoes the words of Jesus, who is the real bread from heaven and who gave his life for ours, surrendering to the will of the Father so he could become our nourishment and strength. The Lord’s wisdom helps us make decisions rooted in our faith and aids us in discovering the font of our lives in the sacraments of the Church. Parish groups would do well in their weekly gatherings to explore the contrast between the wisdom of the world, as they perceive it, and the wisdom God calls us to through his Word. What does it mean for us Christians to be wise from our faith, hope, and charity?
