FR. JOHN PAUL’S SPIRITUAL BREW:
T oday’s Gospel is one of my favorite reminders of how to approach life and its different seasons. “Don’t worry about your life” Yesterday has passed…Today
has enough drama…. and Tomorrow needs a fresh mind, heart, and spirit…. To receive whatever the day has in store. Jesus tells us that “we cannot serve two masters”
……... that we will love one, and be unfaithful to the
other. Having to make a choice between two
perceived goods… always has the potential of either
bringing out the best of us, or of pulling us apart.
Today’s Gospel is invites us into a deeper relationship
of trust with the God of life, purpose, and
happiness…. “Do not worry about your life, what you are to eat, drink, or wear.” For most of us, these are
not “first world problems” and we have many choices
when it comes to these matters. God is interested in
our souls and how they inform our living and care of
the earth and its many people and creatures. We are
reminded in the Gospel, “to seek first God’s
kingdom” and the formation that comes from
“walking with God” upon His path of loving
excellence. To travel this road means to discover a
truth that is capable of addressing our major concerns
at their roots, and to live life with less worries and
fears. As we prepare to embrace the Season of Lent, may we ask Christ for the courage to pray, fast, and give……..in a way that will produce great blessings in the lives of others, as well, as ourselves. “Take courage, and do not be afraid”
