Saint Kateri Corner

Kateri died in her mid-twenties. The first mi-

raculous happening did not occur until after her death on

April 17th, 1680. This is the change in her appearance as-

serted by her biographers: Pierre Cholonec writes, “Her

face, so marked and swarthy from chicken pox, suddenly

changed about a quar-

ter of an hour after her

death and became in a

moment so beautiful

and so radiant that I

observed it immedi-

ately.” This is after she

died. And other mira-

cles would follow.

Within years of her

death the site of her

burial had become an

important pilgrimage

site. All of this is in-

dicative of her charac-

ter: her humility, her

absolute dependence

on God.

Fr. Joe’s Jottings!

People always told me that it would be warmer in Pi-

erre but last weekend it was proven beyond any doubt.

It matches the warmth of the people of Ss. Peter and

Paul. The fiscal year ended on June 30th and every

parish submits a report to the Bishop on the various

activities of the past year. Last year we had 26 bap-

tisms along with 47 First Communions. There were

50 people who were Confirmed receiving the gifts and

the fruits of the Holy Spirit. Scripture states that a

man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to

his wife which happened 9 times at our altar during

the last 12 months. Eternal rest grant unto the 11

deaths we mourned and grieved. Catechesis and evan-

gelization are very important apostolates for our par-

ish. There were 187 children attending K through 5th

grade at the Blue Ribbon School of St. Joseph, while

there were 210 children attending the pre-k through

12th grade religious education opportunities. In total

there are 1092 families in our parish and we prayed

many, many hours together and at home. In the near

future I hope to communicate the financial status as

well.

4 Welcome to Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Parish

St. Joseph School A Blue Ribbon School

School begins on August 20th,only a month

away. Summertime regression is a common problem

among students. Studies show that the majority of students

lose at least some knowledge that they gained during the

school year during summer vacation. To lessen the effects

of summer regression have your child read for at least 20

minutes a day. If your child needs help read to-

gether. Make weekly visits to the library and find an au-

thor your child loves to read. The librarian would love to

assist you. Give your child a head start on the school year

by reading every day during this last month!

Take a look at the beautiful lawn growing on the play-

ground area. Thank you to Morris Irrigation, Solberg Solu-

tions, and the Home and School Association, A special

thanks to two of our SJS alumni, Mark Morris and Lucas

Solberg, for all your work and to Thad Uecker and Karen

McCue! We are blessed to have each of you in our SJS

community!
