Are You A Photographer? (Because

every time I look at you, I smile!)

The Communications Department is looking for a few extra people to help out with taking pictures at events to use on social media, our upcoming website, and in print. We hope to assemble a team of people who can capture our candid mo-ments with Christ. The wonder and beauty that comes from such moments can be a great tool for evangelization. DSLR (or SLR) experience would be a great plus but not needed if you are great with a camera in general! Send a few sam-ple pictures to Manisha, Director of Communica-tions, at: [email protected] to sign up. As Pope Saint John Paul II said, "The purpose of art is nothing less than the upliftment of the human spirit." We hope your gifts and tal-ents in photography will help us do just that for our Saints Peter and Paul Parish community.

11 Cents: Growing Past Our Parents

We have all been influenced for better and for

worse by our parents. There are some people who

spend many years healing from the poor treatment

they received from their parents. Even in the health-

iest of families, something negative is always

passed on. How could two imperfect people do a

perfect job? They can’t. That’s ok. It is normal, but it

doesn’t mean we shouldn’t address it.

You will find that the people who have examined

and addressed how their parent’s influenced their

personalities, are emotionally healthier and more

self-aware individuals. I’m not prescribing self-pity

or self-obsession, but simply healthy examination of

self.

A part of growing past our childhood, is to

acknowledge any pain, dysfunction, or imperfection

that was there, honoring its importance, admitting

that it mattered to us, and then choosing to not let it

define us anymore.

After we have done that, the most important and

most powerful thing we can do is, forgive. This

doesn’t have to be a part of a conversation with

your parents, and it should be done even if your

parent have passed away.

They say forgiving is like setting a prisoner free,

and then realizing that prisoner was yourself. For-

give for your own sake, not just for their sake. Ask

God to help you forgive even for the little stuff. God

wants you to be free from those past wounds that

He never wanted to happen to you in the first place.

If you ever want to pray with our prayer team about

forgiveness of a parent, or anyone else, we have

been trained to help with that. You can contact me

about it at [email protected].
