MLitt/MScThe one-year MLitt and MSc programmes are our most popular Masters options. The Master of Letters is a degree in the arts and humanities subject areas. The Master of Science degrees are often in the sciences or have practical business applications such as in computing, economics, finance and management. These taught programmes extend over two semesters of teaching, followed by a dissertation or project, usually submitted in August. This is a common pathway for students to progress to a research degree or employment.

MResThe Master of Research is a one-year degree normally taken as research training for doctoral study, but has a significant taught element in addition to a substantial dissertation.

St Leonard’s CollegeAs a Masters student at the University of St Andrews you will be part of a growing, vibrant, and intellectually stimulating postgraduate community. St Leonard’s College aims to provide opportunities for Masters and doctoral students to come together, socially and intellectually, and make new connections, and promotes a culture of scholarship, creativity and discovery.
