Too many students are coming to school on a Thursday without their swim suits. Please assist us to make sure your child maximises the benefits of this Learn to Swim Programme and the service that is being SPONSORED by the Invercargill Licensing Trust.. Salford students stole the show at the Sharks basket ball game with their Zumba Performance; we have

received very positive feed-back about them! A huge thanks to Lou Horo for her ongoing energy and commitment to the school. Thanks also to the parents for taking the students to the game, which was a fabulous family event.

Many thanks to the parents who made time to join our Home Learning evening, staff had prepared a range of ideas and resources and taken the time to develop parents understanding of the many facets of learning and ways that we can work together. If you did not attend there is a foyer display of the evening or ask the classroom teacher. We are trying really hard to develop a much closer link to school and home, this will strengthen our Learning to learn curriculum link and ensure that all parties understand the learning pathway.

Remember to continue to check the school website as these events are always profiled on there thanks to Mr Allen!

Congratulations also to the parents of our digital students who created some very entertaining i-movies at the parent evening! The success of these events means they will be repeated.

Students are experiencing many Science experiments at the moment as they move through the Finding Out stage of the Inquiry. I hope they are sharing the learning at home with you all and dis-cussing the changing of physical properties. Making Ice Cream, Butter, Hokey Pokey, Toffee are resulting in some amazing questions have been recorded on the Wonderings Walls.

This week I am attending the NZ Principal Federation meeting in Christchurch, we are visiting some of the damaged schools and also some new building projects. The Minister of Education will be announcing the plan for the Canterbury area following the earthquake devastation so I hope that this is going to allow these schools to move forward.

Mrs Wheeler and I are also attending a Ministry of Education workshop in Wellington on

Accelerating Literacy Learning. This is a contract we are on to target a group of

learners that require additional teaching to reach the expected standard. We are looking forward to being involved in this new learning.

Have a wonderful winter sport weekend. .

HEAD LICE We have many reports of the critters at present. Remember to check your child’s hair each week and treat if you find eggs. Pharmacists have a variety of natural or chemical products, seek their advice. We must all be vigilant to try to eliminate the problem.

Symptoms of head lice include:

 Intense itching of the scalp

Small, red bumps on the scalp,

neck, and shoulders (bumps

may become crusty and ooze)

 Tiny white specks (eggs, or

nits) on the bottom of each

hair that are hard to get off
