It’s that time of year again, and Christmas is only a day away. How did it all roll around so quickly?
But as we make the stuffing for the turkey and wrap the final presents, our thoughts inevitably drift
back over the year that’s gone. For us, 2010 has been jam-packed with strides forward for our little
charity, from the official launch of our jewellery-making project to welcoming more children into our
home.
But none of this would have been possible without all of the fantastic support we’ve received fromyou, our brilliant supporters. The whole S.A.L.V.E. family – the children, staff and volunteers – would
like to say a huge thank you for all that you have done this year to take us from strength to strength
once again. We hope that you all have a wonderful time with your own families t his festive period,
and we wish you a peaceful and successful year to come.

We are delighted to announce that at 5.12am on 20th
December, our Regional Director Mike and his wife
Robinah celebrated the birth of their second child, a
bouncing baby boy named Caleb. We are delighted to
say that mother and baby are both doing well and we
are thrilled to welcome another baby to the
extended S.A.L.V.E. family. Needless to say, the UK
team can’t wait to meet the new addition on their
annual trip in January!
And little Caleb isn’t the only new face we’ve
welcomed recently.
We are thrilled to see our S.A.L.V.E. family
growing once more after having taken in
four more boys – Edward Junior, Abnel
Junior, Isma and Asuman.
The boys have all been settling in
wonderfully and have had plenty of care
and attention from the Ugandan team. In
particular, our volunteers Emma and
Imogen have been delighting our new boys
with games and crafts at every turn.
We’d like to take this opportunity to thank our new sponsors, Serena and Alex, and Cat and Edward
who have taken on sponsorship for Edward Junior and Isma respectively. If you would like to sponsor
a child, then get in touch with us here at S.A.L.V.E. – email [email protected].
Mike and baby Caleb – a
proud father once again!
Emma and Imogen enjoy some fun and games
with Junior, Isma, Asuman and Junior

The dark nights of November are often in need of a
little lightening, and S.A.L.V.E. was on hand to do just
that when we held our fundraising ceilidh. The band
was in fine form and everyone certainly had their
dancing shoes on, because the evening went with a
real bang. The night saw us raise over £1,000 and a
fantastic time was had by all. Huge thanks to
everyone who supported us on the night and
helped us to come one step closer to raising the
money to build a house of our own!
The UK team are eagerly counting down the days to their annual trip to Uganda. In mid-January,
they’ll be heading for the sunshine, as they visit the project on the ground and discuss the way
forward for the year ahead. But most importantly, the team will have the chance to see the
S.A.L.V.E. children – and how much they’ve grown over the last year! Needless to say, we can’t wait!
As always, we will be taking much-needed items out to Ugandan with us. Most importantly, we are
looking for a laptop – do you have an old one you can spare? If so, contact us at
And finally, we’d like to say an enormous
thank you to our brilliant interns, Imogen
Bancroft and Emma Vickers, who will soon be
leaving Uganda for the snowy shores of the
UK.
Those of you who regularly follow our blog
will have seen the great work the girls have
been doing for us over the last few months.
Their efforts on our community education
programme have been fantastic – you’ve
already seen the results of the bead
project, and we hope that in the near future
we’ll be able to build on the foundations that
Swing your partner round
and round...

the girls have laid for a community carpentry project.
The whole S.A.L.V.E. team would like to say a giant thank you to the girls – their ideas, energy and
enthusiasm have been a huge asset to our organisation, and we hope that as we grow in the years to
come, they will be able to see how much their work helped us on our way. So from all of us here,
thank you!
