Nomination Deadline is April 10th, to the Greek Life Office Email [email protected] before 5 pm.
Awards will be broadcasted May 1st. These awards reflex accomplishments from Fall 2019 to Spring 2020.
Nominee’s must meet the qualifications of awards, namely being in good standing with their chapter, the Greek Life Office and the University.
Athena Award: Given to one male and female Greek exhibiting the highest distinctions in their scholarly pursuits.
Demeter Award: This award, given to one male and one female is for excellence in service to the community, college, or others.
Peoples Choice Awards: This award recognizes one Greek who is most selected by their peers
Apollo Award: Award given to recognize those who possess abilities that enrich the Greek Community (Music, Art, Artisanship)
Hercules Award: Recognizes one male and female Greek with exceptional athletic ability
Metis Award: Reserved for one male and female Advisor, in recognition of their dedication to their chapter
Hermes Award: Distinguishes an outstanding male and female new member.
Zeus/Hera Award: This award recognizes a male and female active member who’s involvement within their chapter is truly excep-
tional
Achilles Award: This award is given to the Greek student who has made strides in all aspects of collegiate and Greek Life
Odysseus Award: This award is given to one male and female President for their outstanding leadership to their chapter.

INDIVIDUAL GREEK AWARDS
Outstanding Service EventPurpose: The Outstanding Service award seeks to recognize chapters who have conducted a program in the Sam Houston State University/Huntsville community that demonstrates a commitment to generosity and personal engagement with others.Definition: Service Events that will be considered for this award include any project organized by the chap-ter that provides direct interaction of members with an agency, community, or service that needs assistance through the time and talent of members. Philanthropic events will not be considered. Programs that are results of judicial sanctions (either from the University or inter/national organization) will not be eligible.Application Materials:• Detailed outline of service event, including individual responsibilities• Letter from the agency benefiting from the service• 1-2 pages, single spaced member testimonials of experience• One-page, single spaced essay illustrating how the experience was mutually beneficial for the chapterand the agency (i.e. what did the agency gain and how did the members benefit individually, as well as thechapter as a whole).

Outstanding Educational ProgramPurpose: The Outstanding Educational award seeks to recognize chapters for a single educational program that provided members and/or the community with important information through an innovative, engaging, and interactive format.Definition: Educational programs that will be considered for this award are any program organized and pre-sented by the chapter for members, other fraternities and sororities, the university, or the Huntsville commu-nity. Co-sponsored events will be considered as long as there is clear evidence of the chapter’s involvement in planning and presentation. Programs that are results of judicial sanctions (either from the University or inter/national organization) will not be eligible.Application Materials:• Detailed outline of educational event• One-page, single spaced essay illustrating the need for the educational program and how the chapter benefited (i.e. what was the purpose of the program)• 1-2 pages, single spaced member and/or participant testimonials of experience, and a letter from cam-pus partner/program who presented (if applicable).

Outstanding Philanthropy EventPurpose: The Outstanding Philanthropy Event award seeks to recognize chapters who hosted an event in the Sam Houston State University and/or Huntsville community that collected funds and/or goods to support a charity, program, or agency.Definition: Philanthropy Events that will be considered are any event organized and conducted by the orga-nization as a means to raise funds and/or goods for a philanthropic effort. Co-sponsored organizations will be considered as long as there is clear evidence of the chapter’s participation in the program. Programs that are results of judicial sanctions (either from the University or inter/national organization) will not be eligible.Application Materials:• Detailed out line of philanthropy event, including how money was collected• Letter from the agency benefiting from the donation• One-page, single spaced member testimonials of how the cause and experience influenced individu-als’ drives to serve• One-page, single spaced essay outlining chapter’s purpose for supporting the cause (i.e. what is the drive to raise money for the agency and how are the members and the agency benefiting from the partner-ship).

Outstanding Membership DevelopmentPurpose: The Outstanding Membership Development award seeks to recognize chapters who are engaged in the mission of building better men and women through their involvement with their organization at all ages and stages of membership.Definition: Membership Development includes personal and professional development such as career read-iness and networking, communication skills, diversity and inclusion, scholarship, and personal values and leadership.Application Materials:• Outline membership education plans, ranging from new member education, current member educa-tion, and senior member education• Two- page, single spaced essay outlining how the member development program integrates and achieves the goals of the inter/national organization• Documentation from educational programs completed• 1 to 2 one-page, single spaced member testimonials demonstrating what they learned throughout member education

Outstanding Membership WellnessPurpose: The Outstanding Member Wellness award seeks to recognize chapters who provide well-rounded and engaging education for members to improve their personal physical, emotional, and mental wellness as a part of a larger community of care.Definition: Member Wellness includes a holistic approach to personal wellness including traditional risk management areas, stress management, and building healthy relationships.Application Materials:• 1-2 pages, single spaced essay outlining how member wellness is a priority for the chapter and how it is implemented (i.e. what does member wellness look like within the chapter and how are members being developed as well-rounded individuals)• Documentation from programs completed• One-page, single spaced member testimonials demonstrating how they have benefited holistically from chapter efforts• Written risk management plan

Outstanding Chapter GrowthPurpose: The Outstanding Growth award seeks to recognize chapters who demonstrate excellence in the recruitment, education, and retention of members to promote growth and stability of their organization at Sam Houston State University.Definition: Chapter Growth includes the recruitment and/or intake efforts of an organization, as well as the retention and engagement of members throughout their career at the institution.Application Materials:• 1-2 pages, single spaced essay outlining what growth means for the chapter (i.e. what growth looks like and how it benefits the chapter)• Outline of chapter education for recruitment/intake events• Calendar of recruitment/intake events, including workshops and education sessions for current mem-bers• Outline of chapter retention plan (should include new members and current)• 1-3 member testimonials of recruitment experience

Outstanding Academic ExellencePurpose: The Outstanding Academic Excellence award seeks to recognize chapters who promote life-long learning, commitment to scholastic excellence, and engagement with the academic mission of Sam Houston State University.Definition: Academic excellence includes academic performance of the membership, supportive and ac-countability measures implemented by the chapter to promote academic performance, and the work of the chapter done to engage faculty and other university partners.Application Materials:• One-page, single spaced essay illustrating how the chapter ensures academics are a priority for the members (i.e. what is the purpose of all programs being implemented, such as study hours, incentive pro-grams, and accountability measures)• Scholarship program outline• One-page, single spaced member testimonials of academic support from the chapter

Outstanding Chapter Collaboration- Greek UnityPurpose: This award honors a chapter that exemplifies Greek unity, specifically in regard to its efforts to make meaningful connections between councils and chapters on campus. This award serves as an opportuni-ty for one chapter to recognize another chapter’s contribution toward Greek unity.Definition: Championing Greek unity is when a chapter’s members promote overall Greek Community uni-ty by working to support and interact with members of the entire Greek CommunityApplication Materials:• 1-2 pages, single spaced essay illustrating how the chapter promotes Greek unity as being important of their initiatives (i.e. Must be an educational program, community service project, philanthropy partner-ship, risk management education or new member program collaboration to be considered)• Letter of verification of Greek unity from Greek organization’s chapter president• One-page, single spaced testimonials Greek unity support from the chapter

Outstanding Chapter Collaboration- Non-GreekPurpose: This award honors a chapter that exemplifies Non- Greek collaborations, specifically in regard to its efforts to make meaningful connections outside of the Greek community with Non-Greek student organi-zations on campus. Definition: Making positive connections with other non-Greek organizations and students is very important to branding your organization on campus and having the ability to make a larger impact on campus and in the surrounding community.Application Materials:• 1-2 pages, single spaced essay illustrating how the chapter promotes collaborating with Non-Greek organizations as being important of their initiatives (i.e. Must be an educational program, community service project, philanthropy partnership, risk management education or new member program collaboration to be considered)• Letter of verification of collaboration from Non-Greek organization’s chapter president• One-page, single spaced testimonials regarding the Non-Greek collaboration from the organization

Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda AwardPurpose: The Coulda-Shoulda-Woulda award seeks to recognize chapters who would have conducted a program in the Sam Houston State University/Huntsville community that demonstrates a commitment to education, philantrophy and service within the community. Definition: Coulda Events that will be considered for this award include any project organized by the chapter that provided planning, promoting and executing all before the hit of the COVID-19. Based on the history of this event for the chapter, and the rate at which the event was going, this award is to recognize the hard work that was put into the event.Application Materials:• Detailed outline of plans of action, cost, plans• Letter from the agency/space rented, along with flyers that were pushed out to the community• 1-2 pages, single spaced member testimonials of experience in the past along with a Letter of Support from co-sponsors to verify, if other chapters were going to join event. • One-page, single spaced essay illustrating how the experience was going to benefit the chapter, com-munity and/or philanthropic cause.
