Biography

Niels Bohr was born on October 7, 1885 and died on November 18, 1962

Niels Bohr’s full name was Niels Henrik David Bohr.

Niels lived in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Niel had many children that we named Aage Bohr, Ernest Bohr, Erik Bohr, Hans Henrik Bohr, Harald Bohr, and Christian Bohr.

Models

Niels Bohr had many models that he helped contribute to modern physics.

The Bohr Model is probably familiar as the "planetary model"

It is also used as the atomic symbol.

Atoms can make transitions between the orbits allowed by quantum mechanics by absorbing or emitting exactly the energy difference between the orbits. The following figure shows an atomic excitation cause by absorption of a photon and an atomic de-excitation caused by emission of a photon.
