SAFETY

Page 3: SAMi Maker Space Orientation

YOU KNOW WHAT’S FUNNY ABOUT SAFETY?

THERE IS NOTHING FUNNY ABOUT SAFETY!

PHYSICAL and EMOTIONAL safety.

This is an inclusive space where EVERYONE is welcome.

You decide your intent, but you do not control your effect.

Measure twice, cut once. Focus. Think it through. Error on the side of caution.

Take control. Don’t sit around and wait for something to happen. Take initiative and make it happen yourself!

DO. MAKE. BREAK.

Page 8: SAMi Maker Space Orientation

Do what? Make something. Make anything. It doesn’t have to be perfect on the first try. The process is more important than product, especially at the beginning.

DO. MAKE. BREAK.

Page 9: SAMi Maker Space Orientation

After you make it, push your creation to the limit and find out how to make it better.

DO. MAKE. BREAK.

AN ENTREPRENEUR DISCUSSES THEIR FAILURES:

“The very first company I started failed with a great bang.

The second one failed a little bit less, but still failed.

The third on, you know, proper failed, but it was kind of okay. I recovered quickly.

Number four almost didn’t fail. It still didn’t really feel great, but it did okay.

Number five was PayPal.”

-Max Levchin, PayPal Co-Founder

Net worth: $300 Million

FAIL FAST. FAIL OFTEN.

If you’re not failing, you’re not trying.

If you do nothing, you’re guaranteed that nothing will happen.

Making mistakes is better than procrastinating or getting caught-up in picky details.

STORING A PROJECT

You can keep a project here in the classroom if:

• It takes up less than a cubic foot.

• It is stored on the bottom row of shelves (labeled PROJECT PARKING)

• Your parked projects have an approved “PARKING PERMIT” that is less than two weeks old.
