It is increasingly important for businesses today

to respond rapidly and effectively to changing

markets and customer needs-on pain of losing

competitive edge. So all companies, whether

small, medium or large, need slim processes and

highly performance communication and collabo-

ration both inside the company and toward their

customers.

IP technology, convergence and multi-channelling,

fixed/mobile integration, web services are the main

means that businesses are adopting to meet this

challenge in the most comprehensively effective way.

The ultimate objectives are to improve time-

to-market, boost productivity, cut costs,

extend the customer base and improve the

customers’ loyalty.

SAMIP© platforms help you to win the battle:

get all the information you need, be reachable

anywhere and in all circumstances to give a

prompt and complete reply to your customers

for their maximum satisfaction.

A challenge that puts the customer at the centre!

Separate infrastructures, lots of different

suppliers, complexity and high ownership

costs, inadequate response times will soon be

vague memories.

In today’s company networks, differing types

of information converge and a vast array of

value-added services are available. The resulting

benefits are reflected in business processes,

which can now offer improved performance,

reduction and optimization of costs and inve-

stments to win customers’ satisfaction and

loyalty.

Seltatel designed its SAMIP© communication

server as the nerve centre of your company

network. The IP-native platform renders inno-

vative technology wide-reaching, flexible and

scalable, enabling your network to enjoy the

advantages of new convergent communication

services made available through communication

applications that can be integrated with the IT

world.

The challenges for businesses today

Bus iness process-or iented communicat ion

Usage of IP protocol and standard languages

enables SAMIP© to be an application-oriented

platform. In particular, the platform manages

unified communications, fixed-mobile conver-

gence, multimedia contact centre, personal

telephony, and videosurveillance applications.

Unified communications and fixed-mobile

integration allow the customer to take advan-

tage of the company’s high availability in

terms of people and information.

SAMIP© adapts to the needs of specific market

sectors with its full range of vertical applications

for hospitality (Hotels and Senior Residences),

utilities, transport, defence and security.

Thanks to the standards, the full range of SAMIP©’s

applications can be integrated with the most com-

monly used management systems, such as Enterprise

Thanks to its flexibility and full range of services,

SAMIP© is the ideal communication platform for

small and medium businesses, small offices and

branches, and companies of medium and large

complexity, even with distributed locations.

SAMIP© is a full-blown multimedia communi-

cation server built around highly integrated

innovative technologies. It uses the standard

protocols and languages (SIP, HTTP and HTML,

XML) and has interfaces (Ethernet, Wi-Fi, TAPI)

for interoperability across different networks,

systems, hardware devices and software appli-

cations, including those of 3rd parties.

SAMIP© accommodates distributed configura-

tions on broadband interconnections that

deliver big benefits for cost cutting and effi-

ciency, especially for multi-branch companies

and private virtual networks.

The advantages of SAMIP©

SAMIP©’s architecture is based on IP protocol, the

reference protocol for networked communication

and the core of its own communication manager

functionality.

Systems based on this architecture representthe future development of business communi-cation because they provide connectibility anddialogue between new generation (hardwareand software) appliances and legacy devices.

Thanks to its modular and scalable architecture,

SAMIP© guarantees integration and interoperability

with existing systems thus protecting investments

already made and making it possible to grow

in line with specific hardware and software

requirements. The system management applica-

tions can be used to provide local and remote

provisioning, both online and offline, to make

the platform management itself even more

streamlined and efficient.

SAMIP©

Open and scalable platform

The completeness of its management applications

allows SAMIP© to be also implemented as IP-

managed PBX. For customers, this means a

cost-effective and less complex configuration

since it’s managed by the outsourcer or by the

Carrier directly.

The IP-managed SAMIP© solves the problem of

small-medium sized companies that on one hand

need services to improve their work processes, and

on the other hand have some difficulties to make

relevant investments on latest technologies.

Thanks to IP-managed SAMIP©, customers will

have the services they need and the possibility

to upgrade them according to their new requi-

rements, just by paying a fee. In addition to

this, they won’t have to worry about infra-

structures and maintenance that will be direc-

tly managed by the Carrier or the outsourcer

in a completely transparent way.

IP-managed SAMIP© systems is currently certified

by Telefonica’s (Spain) and Telecom Italia’s

(Italy) flat offers.

SAMIP© managed IP-PBX: a new class of services

The advantages of SAMIP©

SAMIP© was designed to work as the basic

platform for your communication applications

and to integrate them with your other IT systems.

A company network using SAMIP© creates values

for its processes and for the business, by facilitating

truly all-embracing communication, which is vital

to acquiring and retaining the customers’ loyalty.

The SAMIP© platform is based entirely on the

SIP protocol, working alongside XML and

HTTP, the two market standards for IP networks,

for data exchange, and the RTP protocol for

streaming data flows.

The SIP protocol means flexible use of new

generation terminals and applications such as

SIP phones, Wireless SIP phones, Softphone for

PCs and palmtops.

XML is one of the basic languages in the deve-

lopment of new Service Oriented Architecture

(SOA) systems and is therefore vital for the

interaction between communication applica-

tions and other IT applications.

SAMIP© gives the customer the means for creating

new application services by integrating those

already existing on the platform to satisfy the

emerging business needs. This feature makes

SAMIP© the ideal platform for a gradual deve-

lopment in the portfolio of services specially

designed for vertical markets.

An innovative SIP and HTTP based platform

The IP-native SAMIP© platform provides Voice

over IP (VoIP) enabling connected devices (fixed

and mobile phones, palmtops, etc.) to communi-

cate in network with other systems, whether new

generation or traditional. VoIP resources can be

enabled gradually and in a simple way.

In order to manage communication among

already existing IP, analogue, digital phones and

PBXs, SAMIP© acts as dedicated gateway.

With SAMIP©, a company network can be exten-

ded by using WAN connections based on SIP and

H.323 IP trunking functionalities and can integrate

traditional systems by means of Q.Sig standard.

SAMIP© supports ISDN, Frame Relay, CDN and

xDSL connections and the possibility to make

VoIP trunk calls.

SAMIP© supports Call Backup if the main service is

not available.

SAMIP©

SAMIP© makes it possible to exploit SIP based

IP Lan Telephony functions, which is crucial to

the concept of anytime, anywhere connections

whether locally or from remote (eg. Home

Office or through PDA phones). With IP Lan

telephony, IP phones can be connected to the

network as if they were a common element of

the data network, also using applications on PCs.

The capacity to treat voice traffic in packets

(VoIP) and have data interfaces with the outside

world are essential prerequisites for enjoying

the benefits of new generation applications

services and, more generally, the cost reductions

and process improvement that customers are

expecting. Distributed companies in particular

can benefit from VoIP connections on virtual

networks between their various sites, thus

reducing their costs and optimizing the com-

munications.

With SAMIP©, users can connect software phones

(softphones), make telephone calls directly

with the PC/notebook, integrate IP phones

with mailing applications (typically Microsoft

Outlook) to manage incoming and outgoing

calls using a PC/notebook and the existing

telephone book.

SAMIP© allows remote users to work as if they

were in the office. And all this without sacrificing

anything in terms of communication quality

and reliability.

SAMIP© runs Unified Messaging applications

with its Messaging Manager, which handles all

information channels between devices and

platform (email, fax, voice, mms, sms, video).

In practice, this means the user has transparent

univocal access to all types of messaging used

by the company wherever he/she is and from

any device (PC, palmtop, smartphone).

The unified messaging services provided by

SAMIP© also through the integration of the

fixed/mobile communication world are crucial for

the company’s availability.

These services are:

• Voicemail: directly integrated in SAMIP©’s central

unit without need for additional resources. The

VM is also linked with the SMS management

feature. In fact, SAMIP© can notify users of a

new message in their mailbox sending a text

message to their mobile phone. SAMIP© also

provides automatic operator.

• Voice2Email: integrates the voicemail with

the mailbox to deliver a new voice message,

which is attached to the email as a wave file

so that it can be easily listened even via web

browser.

• Fax2Email: a fax server enabling faxes to be

sent and received via email.

• SMS2Email: enabling SMS to be sent and

received via email.

Unified Messaging Applications

Unif ied Communicat ions

The architecture of SAMIP© allows a strong

integration with third-party Unified Messaging

services. In particular, the integration of SAMIP©

with Microsoft’s Unified Communications suite

has now been certified for a more complete

and powerful platform thanks to the integration

with Office and Exchange, among the most

widespread office applications.

SAMIP© was designed to improve the company

processes: this means optimization of costs

and investments, a more agile business and

improved customer satisfaction. That’s why

SAMIP© perfectly integrates Microsoft’s Office

Communicator/Exchange Server. A technological

important liaison for a final product that meets

people’s ever-increasing need for mobility.

Thanks to SIP protocol, SAMIP© acts as IP

Gateway between OCS/Exchange server towards

PSTN/ISDN traditional networks, new genera-

tion IP networks, and terminals. In this way, the

unified messaging features are available through

any network and terminal even out of the

company’s offices.

As a matter of fact, Seltatel terminals and

telephone clients provide the Rich Presence services

offered by OCS: the telephone state is actually

monitored in real-time and displayed on Office

Communicator and all Microsoft Office appli-

cations. In this way, it is possible to answer calls

benefiting from both Seltatel terminals’ audio

quality and comfort and Microsoft applications

user interfaces’ interactivity and flexibility.

Mobi l i ty

To satisfy the increasing need for anytime and

anywhere communication, SAMIP © offers

fixed/mobile integration services ensuring the

best availability of people whether in the office or

out.

SAMIP© employs GPRS and UMTS networks to

reroute calls to mobile phones as well and to send

call acknowledgements to mobile phones in the

event of service unavailability.

SAMIP©’s fixed/mobile convergence solution

can be configured on a mobile phone that

supports SIP clients through the personal

mobility feature. Practically, it is possible to

transfer an incoming call first to the configu-

red mobile telephone and then to the voice

mail, in case the mobile is busy or there is no

network coverage.

Fixed-Mobile Integration Applications

Personal Telephony applications

9

These applications, DCP (Desktop Communicator

Professional) and DCS (Desktop Communicator

Supervisor), manage communication services via a

PC thanks to SAMIP©’s TAPI interface.

An easy-to-use and user-friendly graphics

interface that allow users to open and close

calls, monitor the state (busy/free) of the

extensions and decide to display it (even for

remote extensions), and administer telephone

directories (Outlook, ODBC applications).

Through SAMIP©’s Telephony Service Provider,

DCP and DCS applications interact with the server

that collects the state of all the extensions in the

network and allows their visualization.

Among SAMIP©’s Personal Telephony applications,

there is also a series of applications for video

calls, which can be made from a PC, laptop or

other mobile devices, delivering maximum

flexibility for users.

SAMIP© isn’t just a convergent communication

platform – it’s a full-blown communication server

furnishing an array of applications including

the IPvalue suite, which can supervise a

Call/Contact Center via a simple web browser.

SAMIP© uses IPvalue to implement intelligent

management and distribution policies for

inbound and outbound traffic, also with the

support of Text-to-Speech for reading emails,

faxes, sms and information retrieved from

management databases from a phone.

IPvalue is part of SELTATEL’s Customer

Relationship Management suite and can be

integrated with CRM applications from other

certified IT vendors.

Multimedia Contact Center management applications

The Personal Mobility services enable people’s

mobility, a growing need in today’s business world.

With Personal Mobility, users can configure their

availability anywhere. In particular, users can

define a series of rules that, when an inco-

ming call is not answered or gets a busy tone,

allow the call to be transferred to different

destinations (mobile phones, voicemail, group

destinations). The rules of Personal Mobility

can be set both by the administrator and the

user in a flexible and easy way through the

web interface.

One of SAMIP© ’s most innovative characteristics

is that it enables the customer to seamlessly

develop new applications that integrate and

employ the services offered by the platform

itself.

SAMIP© does this with a software tool called

Service Designer, which provides primitives that

the system integrator uses to create new appli-

cations or integrate 3rd party applications.

Service Designer doesn’t require the person

doing system integration work to have in-depth

knowledge of this system or, therefore, of the

platform itself.

Service Designer allows the creation of vertical

applications that are tailor-made to suit the

needs of specific sectors and customers

SAM Manager and SAMBuilder form an advanced

management and provisioning suite providing

management of SAMIP© systems both online and

stand-alone. This is an extremely compact

management solution grouping in a single

tool all the functions required to manage

systems via a single control panel, either locally

or remote or even with a simple web browser.

This last characteristic is particularly important

for optimizing the activities of resources and

cutting management and maintenance costs,

especially for carriers and Internet Service

Providers (ISP) offering a complete hosting ser-

vice. The suite is also included in SAMIP© IP-

Managed version.

SAM Manager comes in a Basic version for

small and medium businesses with few sites,

where management data may be both local to

the platform and distributed across shared

network directories. The Advanced version,

for large enterprises and service providers, is

designed to handle a complex infrastructure

with redundant servers and high reliability.

With SAM Manager , users can select a language,

change the route of the network path,

create/delete a network path, create/delete/edit

exchange data, monitor alarms (both current and

historical), and boot the SAMBuilder configura-

tion programme both on-and offline.

SAMBuilder is a client installed on a PC for

configuration and maintenance of SAMIP©.

SAMBuilder manages, among other things,

the numbering plan, configuration of users

and lines, user and service enabling, unified

messaging management and system network

alarms management.

The comprehensiveness of the functions in the

SAM Manager and SAMBuilder suite boosts the

efficiency of the entire solution by enabling the

user to improve intervention times, cut ownership

costs and optimize Return on Investment (ROI).

On SAMIP© platform, the remote management

is realized through the IP network or through

a dial-in connection via an external modem

connected to the serial port of the platform.

Management and Prov i s ion ing

SAMIP© management suite now includes the

web access version, a web interface that provides

a full range of functionalities according to the

user’s profile, among which diagnostics, firmware

and software management, provisioning and

system advanced management.

Almost all functionalities are managed by the

administrator, while the single network user

can manage personal information through the

same interface (e.g. setup of call forwarding,

personal mobility, access to the centralized

phone book to look for speed numbers or

extensions). The information included in the

telephone book can also be imported or

exported through text or excel files.

Users can search a phone number in the centralized

phone book and, if they are enabled, use the

click-to-dial feature directly from the web.

Moreover, it is possible to send an email, a sms

or a fax to a selected entry, according to the

availability of the gateway (for SMS, for example).

In the centralized phone book, one or more

telephone numbers and email addresses can

be linked to an entry. The search criteria offered

are different: surname, name, and company,

for example.

Alarms

SAMIP© Element Manager, is an advanced

application for the management of alarms and

together with the management and provisio-

ning applications, compose the complete

management centre of SAMIP©.

The Element Manager, organizes the systems

in a tree structure and collects and notifies the

alarms in real time through a constant moni-

toring. If an alarm is detected, the application

sends a notification to the configured email

addresses. Thanks to the Unified

Communication services, the alarm notifica-

tions can then be addressed for example to a

mobile phone, guaranteeing maximum atten-

tion even when the personnel is out of office.

The complete management suite has the

advantage to keep the network always under

control, allowing the on-site or remote inter-

vention according to the type of alarm.

The Element Manager suite is based on three

modules, each of them with a precise role in

the interaction with the other network

systems: client, server, agent.

The client reads and writes the alarm data in

the database from which it receives and shows

the alarms.

The server downloads the alarms from the

monitored SAMIP© platforms regularly and

after a notification coming from the monitored

platforms after specific events. The server

records the alarms in the database and

performs all the needed actions.

The agent notifies SAM Manager , the external

software that monitors the platforms.

With Element Manager is possible to collect,

record, and transmit the alarms coming from

the networking platforms, have different notifi-

cations according to the user’s needs (email,

SMS), and display a real-time graphic represen-

tation of the network.

Alarm Management

SAMIP© Alarm Management

SAMIP©’s scalability and flexibility allow for

gradual investment in step with the customer’s

actual needs. Scalability is a key issue for single-

site and multi-site companies in the perspective

of a local and geographical growth.

In this way, both small, medium and large

businesses can optimize their investments

and be sure of a good return (ROI) thanks to

the possibility of a gradual growth of their

network.

SAMIP© is expandable both locally and geo-

graphically by virtue of expansion modules

that increase the number of analogue, digital

and IP users.

High scalable solution

The SAMIP© convergence platform is highly inno-

vative and is designed to operate in and fully

integrate with an IP network. SAMIP© retains its

conventional telephony capability however,

which SELTATEL understands is of great impor-

tance to clients, also in terms of the technologies

they have already invested in and implemented.

SAMIP© offers advanced telephony services

including all the most sophisticated call control

functionalities required by company communica-

tion networks. All multimedia communication

applications will be greatly benefited by these

services, with high performance guaranteed.

The PBX services supported by SAMIP© include,

in addition to basic telephony, advanced func-

tions such as incoming and outgoing call rou-

ting, call transit and the possibility of having a

uniform numbering plan with different access

profiles per class of service.

SAMIP© also provides Line Sharing and Direct

Trunk Selection services that are used respectively

to manage any entity associated to a button or

led of the telephone, and to make an internal or

external call by pressing a button associated to a

user; the same button is also used to answer the

calls coming from the same user.

SAMIP© also offers Inbound Routing service to

configure routing rules on incoming calls accor-

ding to the calling number, called number, and

call date/time. This service is typically used to

manage support centre or commercial offices,

and offers an important improvement of effi-

ciency and a biggest satisfaction of the customers

thanks to the optimization of response times.

The availability and completeness of these voice

services, which can also be used via a PC with

Personal Telephony applications, is a further gua-

rantee of improved business efficiency.
