Introduction
Your purchase of this book was the first step. Now
it is time to take the second step. Ask yourself, why
won’t I study? Is it a lack of purpose or motivation?
Are we just not very interested in the materials?
Whether there is an absence of personal
responsibility or a lack of interest in the school
materials, taking studying seriously is a struggle for
many students. Most schools do not teach its
students how to study. Students end up coming to
their own conclusions that they were stupid and do
not know how to study. Or they come up with their
own methods of studying, thinking that reading is
the same as studying, which is not the case!
Effective and efficient studying is a skillset that can
be learned. This guide, I LOVE STUDYING:
Winning Tactics for Studying Effectively, will lead
you through the journey of studying in fun and
systematic ways. Divided into three parts, you will
learn to embrace the joys of studying with a new-
found enthusiasm and fervor.

Study Techniques
Let Us Begin with the Basics…
Generally, there are two parts to how we study –
concepts and facts. For example, concept: the
function of chromosomes; fact: human cells consist
of 23 pairs of chromosomes. When you try to
understand a concept, there are some facts that you
will need to remember. So, how can we enhance our
understanding when we are studying? Here are
some fun and exciting techniques to help you
understand the concepts and remember the facts:
Piece by Piece: break your studying into sizeable
chunks, starting from smallest to largest, then make
your way through the materials a bit at a time. If
you need to learn a chapter. First, divide the chapter
into smaller topics. Read 1st topic thoroughly, then
move onto the next. Planning to read one chapter in
one sitting can be intimidating, however,
understanding a small topic can be a lot of fun.
When you want to eat a chocolate bar, you would
never put the whole chocolate in the mouth. So the
concept is the same, eat in chunks, and this is the
best way to enjoy it.

Be Weird: there is a tendency for us to remember
absurd things. The more bizarre, the more
memorable. Suppose, the author of a poem is
William Shakespeare, and you need to remember
his name. You can imagine a man wearing a t-shirt
which says William and holding a big glass of
milkshake and stirring it with Spear.
Mnemonics: Mnemonics are useful in remember
data such as the periodic table or names of some
major cities. To remember 8 planets in order: “My
Very Easy Method: Just Say, Understood, Now.” –
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn,
Uranus, and Neptune. Create mnemonics, and you
will remember them for a long time.
Acronyms: Acronyms are abbreviations consisting
of the first letters of each word and pronounced as a
word. For example, NASA is an acronym of
National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Create your own acronyms ASAP! Do you
remember VIBGYOR?
Flashcards: Flashcards are cards containing small
amounts of information. Just cut out a piece of
paper, the size of a credit card, and use it to help
you memorize formulas, words, and its meanings,
definitions, reactions, etc. Flashcards are our best
friends. Make a game out of it either by yourself or

with a study buddy. Color code them, K.I.S.S. (keep
it simple, sweetheart), and use them wherever you
go.
Visualization: for example, while reading an
experiment, imagine that you are doing it in the
laboratory. Perform the experiment in your mind,
step by step. Play it several times over in your head
and try to remember the sequence of events.
Visualization gives us the mental imagery or map of
what’s next.
Create a Story: there’s a reason why everyone loves
story time. As kids, we love to learn by listening to
stories. The lesson learned is imprinted into our
memory through storytelling. I use the story method
by making simple associations between items on a
list and create a story out of it. For example, if I had
to remember these words in order: Pen, Paper,
Refrigerator, Statue, and Speaker. I can make up a
story as follows: I took a big Pen and a large piece
of paper and drew a Refrigerator on it. When I
opened the door of the Refrigerator, there was a big
Statue inside. The statue was holding a Speaker on
his shoulders. Make the object which you want to
remember big and weird to solidify the memory.
Pomodoro Technique: a student in the 70s came up
with this technique using a tomato (Pomodoro)
