To Whom it May Concern:

I have had the pleasure of knowing Katherine Kingston for eight years. During the years of our acquaintance, I have known Katherine in many capacities. She has been my Mother's Helper since the birth of my first child five years ago. Her responsibilities in that capacity have grown with the activity level of a now pre-schooler, and the addition of another child, now a toddler.

Katherine has has also been involved with a variety of tasks at my retail business, a specialty shop fitting women for mastectomy, compression, maternity, and nursing products. Her experiences have included working on inventories, our newsletter, mailing list, and web design, as well as customer interface.

Katherine is an intelligent, capable, and personable young woman. She is always quick on her feet, with sensible reactions in all the circumstances I've seen her in. I feel confident in saying that she is capable of handling any situation with thoughtfulness and maturity.

To Whom it May Concern:

I highly recommend Michelle Johnson as a candidate for a teaching position. I have worked with Michelle in my position as Principal of St. Paul's School.

While a student, Michelle was employed in various teaching related-positions including teaching a museum program to fourth grade classes in the Huntington School District. Since then she has substituted at a variety of schools in the Long Island area, including St. Paul's.

Michelle has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially children. Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable and computer literate. Michelle can work independently and is able to follow through to ensure that the job gets done. She accomplishes these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude.

I recommend Michelle to you without reservation. If you have any further questions with regard to her background or qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me.

I highly recommend Emily Smith as a candidate for graduate school. I have worked with Emily in my position as Associate Director, Name College.

While a student at Name College, Emily was employed in various positions including teaching a museum program to fourth grade classes in the Saratoga Springs School District, teaching both adults and children to ride horses, and managing horse show participation for a local riding stable. She accomplished all these tasks with great initiative and with a very positive attitude.

Emily has a wonderful rapport with people of all ages, especially the "at-risk" children she worked with at Carroll Hill School and Prospect Child and Family Center. Emily has a special talent working with the children who need more guidance and support than those typically found in a traditional classroom setting.

Her ability to connect with her students and her talent at teaching simple concepts, as well as more advanced topics, are both truly superior. She has excellent written and verbal communication skills, is extremely organized, reliable, and computer literate.

Emily would be a tremendous asset to your program and I recommend her to you without reservation. If you have any further questions with regard to her background or qualifications, please do not hesitate to contact me.

To Whom it May Concern:

It is my honor to recommend John Doe for matriculation into the Graduate program at Rochester Institute. I have had the pleasure to know and work with John for the last six years. He he first worked with me as an intern in the software development organization at XYZ in Syracuse, NY. Following his graduation from Rochester Institute, I was fortunate enough to keep track of his career so that when the opportunity arose, I was able to recruit him to his current position at ABCD. The characteristics of John that attracted my attention then, and led me to hire him out of Company B last year, make it easy for me to give him an unqualified endorsement for graduate study.

John brings to all of his activities energy, enthusiasm, and commitment. This is to be expected in any successful member of an entrepreneurial organization, and in this regard John fits in well. Be it in the parsing of intricate algorithms in a billing system, the crafting of an object hierarchy, or the establishment of best practices with an emerging technology, John consistently delivers high-quality software for our organization. This speaks to his overall intellect and ability to learn, attributes that will serve him well in graduate study.

While John is a relatively junior member of our organization as measured by tenure, he quickly established himself as a go-to person in the product domains in which he has worked. He has been ever-willing to work with members of our organization to share his knowledge and expertise, most notably as a presenter for presentations on product functions. He has a deep-rooted spirit of helpfulness that coupled with his quick grasp of subject matter speaks well to his potential as a teaching assistant or instructor.

What I find most engaging in John's character are his wide-ranging interests outside of software. Two of his abiding interests are game theory and economics. He can be quickly engaged in an in depth discussion, for instance, of the rationale behind EZ-Pass, the lack-of rationality of the financial markets, or the optimal approach for making a few quid on the super-bowl. John's broad range of interests speaks well to his potential as researcher, both in bringing a wide range of theory to the research at hand, as well as carrying forward new hypotheses of interest to researchers.

John Doe is a valued member of our organization whom we have learned we can rely on, regardless of the difficulty of the task to hand or the novelty of the challenge. His combination of intelligence, commitment, perseverance, creativity, and compassionate character will certainly make him a valuable member of any academic program. I encourage you to look favorably upon his application.

Sincerely,

Prof. John Smith

Dept. of Computer Science.

It gives me immense pleasure in recommending Mr. Joe Doe for the graduate program in Computer Science at your University. I have known him for four years in my capacity as Professor, Department of Computer Science. I have also taught him two theory courses, 'Introduction to Computer Science' and 'System Programming' and I am teaching him Application Programming.

In this context, I wish to place on record the consistently brilliant academic performance of Mr. Doe during his four years of study.

As per his performance records, he can be placed in the top 10% of a class of 90 students in my subject and is placed on the overall in the top 20%. He is intelligent, inquisitive and yearns to gain an in-depth knowledge. With his determination and hard work I have no doubt that he will succeed in all his endeavors.

His project titled "ABC DEF GHI JKL" conducted at XXX was ranked among the best projects carried out in the department. He has shown the motivation, intelligence, preserving nature and analytical aptitude for graduate study and research. He is extremely co-operative and possesses the capacity to contribute positively while working as part of a team.

In my view Mr. Doe compares favorably with the best among my students. I am sure he will make an outstanding graduate student. I recommend him in the strongest terms for admission to the Graduate Program at your University preferably with financial aid.

Recommendation Letter for Mr. Jack Oh

Dear INS Officers,

My name is Charles Straub and I am currently a Professor of the Commercial Visual Art Department of Mulder College. Aside from being an educator in commercial art, I also write frequently on this topic. (Please see attached resume for my previous projects, essays, articles, among others.) A brief history of our academic institution: Mulder College was founded in Galveston, Texas in 1968; the institution specializes in art -- its history as well as its practical applications. Since its commencement, Mulder has educated many artists in the fields of fine arts, commercial arts, illustration and design, and continues to do so. Some fine artists who have graduated from our school are: Penelope Witt, Norbert Harkness, and the infamous James Singh. I have known Mr. Jack Oh since his admittance to our Commercial Visual Art Department in 1975. He was an extraordinary student; he was always an assiduous scholar. He graduated with top honors; his following achievements and accomplishments as an illustrator is something only a few could ever hope for. Even after graduation, we have maintained our relationship, and I am quite acquainted with his pieces, showings, and projects. On these occasions, we discuss his art work as well as his exhibitions. At each meeting, I am always quite impressed to find that his love for art (especially illustrations for political content as well as for commercial uses), which has always been strong, continues to get even stronger. Mr. Oh, as a commercial illustrator, has provided many of his art work to established publications and large corporations. Quite clearly, his talents are vested in his ability to determines style, technique, and medium best suited to produce the desired effects -- as well as conforming with reproduction requirements (which at times can be annoying to artists). Mr. Oh has an exceptional ability in formulating his concept and thereafter rendering his illustration. His initial rough sketches themselves are quite wonderful. With respect to Mr. Oh's personal attributes affecting his professionalism, Mr. Oh adamantly follow his own strict guidelines. Specifically, he is quite selective about a particular project's style and content, and I know that when he is sought out for an engagement that is inconsistent with his style (or is disagreeable in content) he will refuse and not accept the job. However, as stated previously, when he does accept a project, he will execute it professionally and in a timely fashion. It is, perhaps, this selectivity that allows him to create great works of art and wins him many prestigious accolades in Texas. While Mr. Oh is known for his commercial illustrative work, he is also a "fine artist" in the traditional sense as well. Mr. Oh is not only a talented artist in the field of illustrations, but he has also created great many works of more traditional artistic pieces in other mediums and formats -- utilizing pastel and chalk. These works of art, while less utilized in a commercial context, has been well received. His excellence in integrating and developing visual elements such as line, space and color to achieve a highly dense and colorful piece has won him awards such as: Rose and Steele Art Foundation's Annual Exhibition (1992). Such recognition of Mr. Oh is not merely prevalent in our state, but extends also to countries such as Germany and France. I personally find Mr. Oh's works to be extremely unique and attractive. Furthermore, even his commercial illustrative work should not be categorized simply as such, but rather as contemporary fine art. While Mr. Oh's standing the field is considered as one of the very best in the field, I am sure that Mr. Oh can further refine his ability and growth in the United States. Without reservation, I highly recommend Mr. Oh as an exceptionally well talented "fine artist."

Signed,

Charles Straub, Professor Date: XX, XX, XX Commercial Visual Art Department, Mulder College
