I was an American actress, pin-up girl, dancer, and singer. I married former
child actor Jackie Coogan in 1937. He was under considerable stress from a
lawsuit against his parents over his childhood earnings, and we divorced in
1939. In 1943, I married trumpeter Harry James. We had two daughters, Victoria Elizabeth and Jessica. Our marriage, which lasted for 22 years, was rife with alcoholism and infidelity
before we divorced in 1965. I then entered into a relationship with dancer Bob Remick, several years my junior,
with whom I remained until my Death in 1973.

Studies suggest that socializing benefits seniors in a
couple of ways. First, it helps to keep minds sharp, and it reduces depression. But it may also assist in pre-
venting dementia. Even community dining shows posi-tive effect on seniors' nutrition. For seniors in assisted living, socialization is very important. So it's no wonder
that social activity opportunities are one of the first things a potential resident will ask about when inter-
viewing an assisted living facility.
Assisted Living has long been portrayed in the same light as nursing homes. Over-crowded, boring, and full
of residents that sit staring at soap operas all day. Nothing could be farther from the truth! Residents in
assisted living facilities are living - and living well. Full, rich lives that include parties, dating, movie nights
(on the town), and volunteering.
They can have a brand new social life in an assisted living facility. Facilities may host picnics, social mixers,
and always encourage their residents to get out and move. So get socializing!!!

Healthy Eating
What kinds of foods do I need to eat as I age?
When you get older, your body be-
gins to need fewer calories, but you need just as many nutrients. Nutri-
ent-dense foods pack a lot of vita-mins, minerals, and other nutrients
your body needs into a small amount of calories.
Eat more of these nutrient-dense
foods
Older adults, along with other Americans, are advised to "eat from the rainbow" of foods rich in nutri-
ents, like these:
fruits and vegetables (choose a range of types
with vibrant colors)
whole grains, like oatmeal, whole-wheat bread, and brown
rice
fat-free or low-fat milk and cheese, or soy or rice milk that is fortified with vitamin D and
calcium
seafood, lean meats, poultry, and eggs
beans, nuts, and seeds
Eat less of these foods
Some foods have many calories but offer few nutrients. Older adults should eat less of these foods:
sugar-sweetened drinks and desserts that have added
sugars
foods with butter, shortening, or other fats that are solid at room
temperature
white bread, rice, and pasta made from refined grains
