Advent Season Begins Sunday
In the 4th Century, when Christians began to celebrate Christmas, they tried
to think of ways to make the season more meaningful. Christmas is such a special
time, they thought it a shame to let it come and go so fast. They designated the 4
Sundays before Christmas as a time of preparation. They called it Advent, which
means coming. It was a reminder that the day of the Savior’s birth was coming.
At Sand Spring we celebrate Advent with a wreath holding 5 candles. The
first four candles represent the 4 Sundays leading up to Christmas. The center candle
represents Jesus the light of the world. This Sunday night we will light the first candle
of Advent at the Hanging of the Green service. The final candle will be lite at the
Candlelight Christmas Eve service on December 24th.

Awana has ended for 2015 so that the children and workers can enjoy the
special services on Sunday evenings during the Christmas season. Awana will start
again on January 3rd with a movie night.
This coming Sunday night, we will be having our Hanging of the Green
service. There are ornaments on the tree in the foyer of baby items that are needed
for members in our community. This is a wonderful mission project that we are able to
support right here in Lawrenceburg. Along with the items that are on the tree, we
also give each family a Bible as well as a children’s book of the true meaning of
Christmas. Please help support this mission project that supports our neighbors.
In December there are several upcoming activities. December 9th we will be
having our Birthday Party for Jesus, December 16th we will be going to Lights under
Louisville, and on December 23rd we will be going Christmas Caroling.

The last few weeks we have been digging
into God’s Word to see what it has to say
about thankfulness. As I have studied I
have been challenged with the fact that so often we focus on being thankful for all God
has done for us and we neglect being thankful for who God is. Don’t get me wrong we
should be thankful for all God’s blessings, but those blessings come because of His nature.
He is wise! He is holy! He is love! He is faithful! And the list goes on and on. This week,
spend some time discovering who God is and as we focus on being thankful, may we
spend time thanking God for His amazing character. Have a Happy Thanksgiving!
Next Sunday night is the Hanging of the Greens service and we need your help!
Each year our students play an important role in decorating the church for Christmas. We
will be meeting at 5:30 in the sanctuary to receive instructions on our responsibilities,
followed by decorating the youth room until the service begins at 7:00. This is a
wonderful way to join together and kickoff the Christmas season! See you then!
