How to set up a group

When your child reaches 18 months you are very likely to start wondering about how best to educate, entertain, socialize
him/her. The problem is that often childcare does not meet the toddler's needs – big groups, over-stretched teachers and
curriculums focused on skills and mastery instead of the core competencies for life, like creativity and collaboration.
Occupational therapists Meg Faure (Baby Sense) and Lara Schoenfeld (Nanny n Me) have developed a bespoke solution
that meets your toddler exactly where he/she is!
Why ?
2to3 is a unique concept in early childcare and education, catering specifically for two-to-three year olds. At
we believe that emotional engagement and learning happen best in a nurturing environment, where play is the
key to the learning journey. will assist you to give your child the best foundation, by providing a qualified early
childhood teacher to guide your toddler's learning journey in a nurturing playgroup of 4-6 children in a home setting.
The 'PlayPlan' has been thoroughly researched and carefully designed with best practice in mind. As
Occupational Therapists, the founders prioritise your child's emotional development as the foundation for all other
learning. There are five main goals of the Program:
1. To develop resilient, emotionally engaged children who are attuned to their own and other's emotions and able
to self regulate their own behaviour.
2. To encourage a strong sense of identity and belonging and develop empathy and care for others and the
environment.
3. To nurture the foundation for the learning journey, namely creativity, inspiration, intrinsic motivation and active
exploration to learn. We call these the 'Super Senses'.
4. To develop executive function in little ones, this is the motivation to accomplish goal directed tasks through the
skills of problem solving, decision making, flexibility and judgement
5. To support the developmental goals of the two-to-three year old in terms of gross motor, fine motor, language
and cognitive skills.

GOING BEYOND THE ORDINARY TO EDUCATE 21 CENTURY LEADERS!ST
"All children thrive on being independent. Even toddlers enjoy choosing what to wear,
putting on their clothes, packing their bag for nursery.
The idea is to build on these things gradually. Children are often more capable than you think."

GOING BEYOND THE ORDINARY TO EDUCATE 21 CENTURY LEADERS!ST
Assigning chores to children from a young age is one of the predictors of them developing into adults who
value work, take initiative and become collaborative team-players.
Toddlers as young as 18 months – 2 years can begin cleaning after themselves, putting away toys after
playing with them and helping with sorting out washing according to colours and fabrics.
Between 4-6 years pre-scholars should be able to bath and dress with help, fasten their shoelaces/buckle their
shoes, make simple sandwiches (that do not require any sharp knives) and even pack their school bags.
Knowing how to get to school and back home, and remembering both physical addresses are
lifesaving information to have.
By age 8, children must be able to ride a bike, know the basics of swimming, brush their teeth, tell time,
tidy and keep their own rooms organised, gather their ironed clothes and pack them away.
By the time they are 10 years old, youngsters should ready themselves for any occasion, make simple
meals using the microwave/oven, vacuum carpets, change their bedding, lay the dinner table, pack away dishes,
contribute to pet-care, manage their own pocket money, and be able to dial emergency numbers to the police,
fire and nearest hospital.
Pre-teens by age 12, must be guided on how to answer the family phone and take messages, follow and cook
simple recipes for the family, learn the importance of food hygiene, know how to operate a dishwasher and
clothes washing machine, iron their own clothes, sew buttons, and label their own clothes.
Keeping track of and not losing things will help them understand the value of possessions.
Self-hygiene must now be an independent responsibility.
Between 13-16 years, teenagers should be able to stay at home alone, choose and pay for their own clothes,
be involved in the budgeting, listing of, buying and packing away groceries, manage food safety and cooking
skills, organise the fridge and freezer contents, do their own laundry, mow the lawn and other household
chores. Basic sewing and mending skills as well basic first aid are essential skills. Having a bank account, with
insight into how the basic household expenses and bills operate, will help set them up to manage their own
future finances.
Chores help children develop empathy, a sense of accomplishment, independence
and responsibility. They gain first-hand knowledge of what it is to struggle, get to
value work and become self-driven citizens.
Helping your child now will set them up for success as adults!
