2) Sanggu and Student Needs Regarding Student Lifestyle.

o Potenciano: Sanggu can do something about the lifestyle of Ateneans. Set the line between actually providing services and babying the students but this is definitely a pressing issue

o Elicaño: It’s clearly something that people care about which is connected to the issue of relevance. I’m not certain if I would automatically say that we should get involved because of the 1) yaya-thing, 2) is it something we SHOULD be doing or are we doing it because we want to feel relevant?, 3) who are we to say what an ideal Atenean is?

o Villamin: We need to look for the line because it’s also good to have initiatives that can affect their lifestyle. Sometimes, people see the Sanggu as an interference… so, are we helping or interfering already with their lives?

We are your sole autonomous student government. We voice out your concerns. We protect your welfare.

We form the community. We are entrusted to lead and committed to serve. We are your SANGGUNIAN.

o Agatep: I agree with setting the line. Is there a value crisis? Which values do we give importance to and want to cater to? If there are students to spend more than 100 pesos a day, engage in pre-marital sex, part-time workers, etc, these issues go down to these values and I don’t know if pinpointing these values is what were supposed to be doing, or if the services we have to check.

o Potenciano: I agree with everybody else—we cannot always interfere because we can’t always apply the market-logic to the government. We are able to enter in some means but I am not for looking at this and saying, this should be our focus for the year

o Supetran: I’m not comfortable in categorizing those concerns into specific things. We should always base concerns on our core competencies.

o Alejo: I agree with you that there are somethings that we can touch on, and there are some that we cannot. However, one thing is for sure: there seems to be a certain lack in seeing whether Sanggu should get itself involved in the different aspects.

SOSE gowing toward the direction of social issueso Engage nation using what knowo Foster individuality and turn it into something bigger; strength

in numbers SOH Specifico Dynamic democratic representation

session Student Movement Integration

o Realizing the outside and looking at how a student can be part of it

o Values behind actions Sanggu build a culture of recognizing students’ efforts in a systematic

mannero JGSOM – tarp posting of student efforts; celebrate student

effortso Make it part of cultureo Is it representation?

Social Entrepreneurshipo Villamin: We’re not entirely good at it but we keep pushing

ourselves toward it. Work on it firsto Supetran: Social Entrep is really special for us. In the past, we

used to put all our efforts on Social Entrep. We push for the different models of Social Entrepreneurship. Opportunity for others to see social models of Entrepreneurship that is why we make it into a continuous effort.

Relevance of Sangguo Problem with how the students respond to Sangguo Relevance of Projectso Reality of org projects and Sanggunian projects

You cannot control what the organizations do If we do not do anything, we will continue to be

irrelevant Ateneo and Sanggu

o Potenciano: There’s a conflict between who students go to when it comes to concerns. (Home orgs and Sanggu)

o Villamin: This is where they lean on to. “Biggest institutional support.” Support instead of trying to contest other units.

Supetran: Our tutorial services. We back off when we are not needed and when organizations are offering them and we find other areas where we are needed.

o Potenciano: If we are just present to support orgs, then why not disappear and just give those to COA?

o Agatep: Invisible hand. When Sanggu sees a point of entry, it touches on that.

Help students get the most of their student lifeo If we work hard toward our projects, initiatives, etc, are we

able to work toward this (getting the most)? Or is it just giving students the bare minimum?

o This is the final question for the Sanggunian
